Oogway leaving is actually a brilliant move on his part. If he stayed he would’ve just beaten Tai Lung again and nothing would’ve changed. Shifu would still be distraught and filled with grief, and thus he would not train Po, who then cannot fulfill his destiny of becoming the Dragon Warrior and would remain sad and upset with his life. By removing himself from the equation, Oogway forces Shifu and Po to come together and train, allowing them both to find their calling. And maybe most importantly, it let’s Shifu overcome his pain and trauma with Tai Lung so he can finally find peace, just as Oogway had promised.

I agree with almost all you say about Oogway's motivations. I'm just not convinced Oogway would have beaten Tai Lung again if he'd stayed. Tai Lung doesn't strike me as someone who'd fall for the same move twice. And Oogway looked genuinely alarmed when he learned Tai Lung had escaped.

@@danieldickson8591 Oogway is the literal creator of kung fu in this universe. He would wipe the floor with anyone else if he really wanted to but that's exactly the point of the whole character. He purposely avoids combat because he's come to realize nothing would ever change if he becomes the ultimate trump card every time bad stuff happens. Notice how this applies throughout the entire trilogy; other characters wouldn't have grown closer to each other nor resolved their inner conflicts if Oogway had come in and ended the bad guy in seconds. Oogway is knowledgeable enough to recognize the grand scheme of things within destiny and its fulfillment not to step in when he shouldn't.

Tai Lung is really a tragic villain. He wasn’t born evil but was molded to be one after countless years under Shifu’s tutelage. Shifu trained him until his bones cracked and filled his head with dreams and greatness from the time he was a child. Pretty much boosting him up to be the dragon warrior only to be rejected. He pretty much cracked.

Kai too is a tragic villain to some extent. The guy did everything for Oogway, going as far as to take chi from innocent people to ensure that no one could harm Oogway again, but in response, Oogway killed him. Literally killed him. Didn't sit down and talk to him, just turned on him and you can see the shock and confusion in Kai's eyes. So in his perspective, Oogway did betray him. Not a justifiable reason to destroy his whole legacy, but still makes him tragic.

Tai lung was not evil. He was raised with high expectation, to which when the moment came to determine and confirm that he will be a dragon warrior, he was denied by Oogway because Oogway saw the darkness within him. Which is not to say that ever since Tai Lung was born that he was already evil. No, it meant that Shifu's method of raising his adopted child was not appropriate, I guess. What I mean by this is that ever since Tai Lung showed such great skills in Kung Fu at a very young age, Shifu became ambitious to immediately turn him into the dragon warrior when it was not his but Oogways decision. Shifu narrowed Tai Lungs paths to only becoming the dragon warrior. Tai Lungs rage stemmed from betrayal, betrayed that all his life he was taught and was told that he would definitely become the Dragon Warrior, only for him to be denied.

Jack Black really knocked it out of the park with this one. With celebrity voice acting, it's always hit or miss, cause they don't have the ability to stomach their ego and literally become someone else. It's just them in a recording booth, that's it. But with Jack even though his voice is just THE SAME as who he is....I can't ever picture Po being voice by anyone else. It just fits. And when he says the line "I stayed because every time you threw a brick at my head or said I smelled, it hurt, but it could never hurt more than it did every day of my life just being me. I stayed because I thought, if anyone could change me, make me NOT me.....it was YOU. The greatest kung fu teacher in all of China!....Even if it takes a hundred years for him to get here, how are you gonna turn THIS into the Dragon Warrior huh? How? How? *_HOW?!"_* The way he yells that last "how" is how I knew he wasn't phoning it in. He meant it. And it hits so hard, because who hasn't thought the way Po has? He's essentially saying he hates himself. But you don't need to change yourself, to please others. You shouldn't have to change who you are to learn. And I wish I had this movie as a kid, because this movie's lesson, is we all learn in different ways. And every school teacher, should watch this movie, as part of training.

Training to be the very best his entire life. We were all seating in class and she shows the closed box to the class saying that our most precious belonging was inside, then she goes up to each of us one at a time and opens the box so only that person can currently see what's inside. I was watching my classmates reaction the whole time while trying to guess what was inside, some of them had some pretty funny reactions, like nodding thoughtfully after seeing what was in the box (as thoughtfully as a 12 year old can XD) or saying "that's so pretty!" like it was a expensive jewellry inside, I was sitting there scratching my head at what could garner all those reactions and when I finally saw what it was it all made sense.

Oogway is the perfect representation of Zen. "Going with the flow" or just allowing the river to carry you along its path. He is so enlightened and in tune with Zen or the Dao that he know Tai Lung will escape. Shifu hasn't achieved Enlightenment and thus he tries to stop it, and thus causes it. If Shifu was more in tune with the Dao he wouldn't have sent the messenger to then allow the feather to be used. That scene is the perfect representation of Oogway's past present and future speech because if you spend all of your energy trying to prevent something the universe will allow it to come true, if you just sit back and allow yourself to be in the moment and be present at all times and not overthinking then you can just accept whatever comes your way. I always enjoyed studying philosophy and Daoism was always a favorite of mine and these movies unironically do a very good job at showcasing somewhat harder-to-grasp metaphysical concepts.

so in Kung Fu Panda, certain colors have certain thematic meanings; Green represents "Wisdom" (hence the Jade Palace, and Oogway being a turtle), Red represents "Power" (Tigress and Shifu's outfits, plus the prison where Tai Lung is held) and Gold represents "Heroism". Gold doesn't really appear in large quantities, outside of Po's daydreams about being a martial artist, but it _does_ appear in Tai Lung's eyes, to symbolize how he sees himself. this is not portrayed as a good thing, since he's deluding himself into thinking he's the "hero" who was "betrayed" by his master, and it's telling that Tigress also has Gold eyes because she is very similar to him. (and as a side note, the Dragon Scroll is all three colors) now look at Po's eyes; Green. he's a fanboy, with an encyclopedic knowledge of everything related to Kung Fu, all he lacks is the actual ability, or so everyone thinks- including him. Po has a big problem with imposter syndrome, especially once he's named Dragon Warrior "by accident". it even extends to his abilities as a chef, downplaying himself compared to someone with "ability" ("you should try my _dad's_ Secret Ingredient Soup, he actually _knows_ the secret ingredient") it takes Mr. Ping (Po's dad) telling Po outright that there _is_ no "secret ingredient" for it to finally click in Po's head, and when he looks at the Dragon Scroll again, the final lesson makes sense to him, and his reflection's eyes are glowing Gold; he finally sees in himself the Hero that Oogway saw from the beginning. and tellingly, Tai Lung _doesn't_ . Tai Lung has the same problem with imposter syndrome that Po does, except he had ability, which Shifu was quick to cultivate, teaching him literally everything there was to know about Kung Fu. but the problem was that Tai Lung absorbed the letter but not the spirit of Oogway's teachings, and constantly sought validation from outside himself. he doesn't love Kung Fu as Po does, it is simply the means by which he can achieve validation from his master and father, and more importantly he doesn't love himself, which was also a struggle for Po. everything Tai Lung is, he is so he could be his master's perfect son, to make him proud, and what could make him prouder than being the Dragon Warrior? but he never learned to be at peace with himself; he's still that little baby on the doorstep, so fundamentally unlovable that his parents abandoned him. and so he can't see the final lesson of the Dragon Scroll, all he sees is his own reflection. all he sees is nothing

This movie will always be very special to me, because I refused to watch it when it first came out. Back then I was obsessed with martial arts movies and I bought at least two videotapes a month in a little store in Amsterdam that imported them from Asia. I must have had at least 150 martial arts videotapes in my room at one time. When Kung Fu Panda was announced I felt insulted as I thought this would be an American version of a Martial Arts film made for kids and that it would make fun of the genre. It didn’t help that I also didn’t like Jack Black very much back then. I clearly remember looking at the movie poster and thinking: ‘Yeah, this panda somehow has some kind of superpower that is going to make him invincible, or something. No thanks!’ It wasn’t until years later that I saw it at a friend's house and I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. Not only was it a great story, it was the greatest martial arts film I’ve ever seen! This was a great lesson for me and KFP is now, by far, my most watched martial arts film of all time. I’ve not only watched it a lot of times, I also regularly watch reactors reacting to it! So great was my surprise to see you, one of my favorite reactors, react to it today! I instantly knew you were going to love it and you didn’t disappoint! Thank you! Please react to the other 2 as well!

i dont think that the mensage is necesseraly "you are enough" by that i mean, it make it sound like we shouldnt strive to becoe better... thinking one is enough, is thinking you dont need anything else, that is pride... and pride, being the oposite of humbleness, is not the right way. i think the mensage is, with hard work and a good heart, you can achieve your dreams, that what makes you special, is your desire of being special, alongside with your resolution into acomplishing that goal. troughout all the movie, we can see that poe is a hard worker, always have been, he isnt some lazy guy who ust like to sit around doing nothing, he wakes up earlier than everybody else, he realy try his best to achieve his goals, po is special because HE MADE HMSELF special.

The difference between Po and Tai Lung is that Po had to believe that he is the Dragon Warrior and he love Kung Fu, for Tai Lung is that he was so talented in Kung Fu and the Greatest Kung Fu Warrior that has ever lived and he did all that to make Shifu proud of he and to became the Dragon Warrior for Shifu from all the years that he trained for Shifu, Tai Lung was not evil at the beginning for his selfish ego, he became evil when Shifu betrayed him for not being proud of him for not become the Dragon Warrior.
