@@BlueHopi144 Can you name me some please that have a good band behind them. I don't mean this sarcastically, but while I have found other drummers that are technically better, I always find their actual music/bands to kind of be huge let downs. They either go off the deep end of prog to where the songs dont even flow nicely or theyre just downright boring. It's hard to find a badass drummer that lives in a solid band.

Most people are impressed by the hard explosive fills and while it is impressive he finds his way back in the rhythm effortlessly, what is more astonishing to me is, in your video it is around the 8 minutes timestamp, each of his 4 limbs place a different time signature. Imagine and if you would like try to sit down your right hand rubs your belly in circles your left hand taps the top of your up down movements, your right leg swings back and forth and your left lack swings in circles. Now imagine every limb does his part in a different frequency than the others and now imagine hitting small targets that lay just outside the normal area of the movement at certain time with a certain force. That is exactly what he is doing there. And this guy is 60yrs of age

No lies detected. There are and have been other amazing on-a-whole-other-level drummers. Neil Peart and John Bonham comes to mind, but Danny is in a universe all to his own. The degree of dificulty at which he plays on EVERY single MFing song is off the charts. 4 different time signatures, 1 for each limb. Are you Fing kidding me. I can't even do 2. And I'd love it if we had some baseball stats fanatic Tool fans who would count every drumhit for an entire concert/album and compare it to ANYbody else and Pneuma really isn't even shit on the Danny part of the WOW scale compared to a lot of other songs. I hope with every fiber of me, that there is whole concerts of footage like this, cuz I'd love to see Lateralus, The Pot etc etc etc something fierce! :-)

The thing about drummers for those that are not versed in music theory nor do play an instrument is that people usually thing that the hard part of playing drums is t play hard and fast but that's extremely far from the truth. What Danny does in this song (and to be fair in most of Tool's songs) is absolutely mind blowing. There's very few drummers in the world able to play this and even less who could compose something on this level of complexity and give it the refined taste Danny has in each and every moment. I've seen dozens of regular drummers and drum teachers react to this and the reaction is always the same: their minds get blown away. Since you're not familiar with Tool I would definitely start that journey soon, but in my opinion and contrary to what most of the Tool army is gonna suggest you I would start with their earlier stuff and keep moving forward cronologically. It will make much more sense in the long run. And be prepared, Tool is a rabbit hole like no other.

Tool is fairly unique as far as stage presence goes, because normally the spotlight is on singer as the front man, Maynard usually doesn't usually like being the center of attention, and as he and the other bandmates have said on many occasions Danny is simply an amazing specimen and in truth he is legitimately probably the best drummer alive so spotlights are usually on him. Meanwhile, Maynard is skulking in the shadows like that movie "The Crow". You can actually see his mohawk walk behind Danny in this very video near the end as you noticed.

It could be shit headphones, but it's barely noticeable in the studio version, but mixed so well here. I love the quote " they have so many albums " 😃 - just 6 in 31 years of career

At 14:45 you mention the set list. Danny has a set list between the two cabinets/mixers/whatever-they-are behind him to the left. You can read the list when the camera is on Danny's left side, if you can pause the vid when the camera isn't vibrating. Pneuma looks to be fourth or maybe fifth in. I haven't found the perfect pause point to read them all (and some are obscured by a cymbal) but I can make out Jambi, Vicarious, Invincible, and Stinkfist.

Whatever city Tool is playing in, Danny gets a jersey, if they have a basketball team. I believe there was a basketball scholarship, but Danny wanted to play music.

Edit: thanks for the like and heart. It made my day. In case anyone is wondering, the name of the song he hinted at by saying “who are you to wave your finger” is called “the pot” by TOOL. (One of my old faves by them).

He's a beast... specially in this song, the syncopated and odd rythms they use and the central part where he enters in "octopus mode" is genius... Some days ago, I saw another drum cam video that you might consider view... byt Vlad Ulasevich from Jinjer playing the song Mediator: kzread.info/dash/bejne/nWqM0cupo8eYYqg.html Maybe it would be another good review for you guys... or at least watch it and share your thoughts!!

Just MHO, Tool is a fav of mine. They have always reminded me of early Rush. The driving bass, the crazy drumming, intelligent lyrics, on and on. Its a new age :D Stay safe :)
