Danny was 59 years old when they recorded that gig. That makes it even more impressive.

As a drummer myself that can cover a few of the less difficult Tool songs I totally agree with you. The first time I saw this band was in 1992 in Seattle and have been blown away ever since.

@@BlueHopi144 Can you name me some please that have a good band behind them. I don't mean this sarcastically, but while I have found other drummers that are technically better, I always find their actual music/bands to kind of be huge let downs. They either go off the deep end of prog to where the songs dont even flow nicely or theyre just downright boring. It's hard to find a badass drummer that lives in a solid band.
Most people are impressed by the hard explosive fills and while it is impressive he finds his way back in the rhythm effortlessly, what is more astonishing to me is, in your video it is around the 8 minutes timestamp, each of his 4 limbs place a different time signature. Imagine and if you would like try to sit down your right hand rubs your belly in circles your left hand taps the top of your up down movements, your right leg swings back and forth and your left lack swings in circles. Now imagine every limb does his part in a different frequency than the others and now imagine hitting small targets that lay just outside the normal area of the movement at certain time with a certain force. That is exactly what he is doing there. And this guy is 60yrs of age
People have mentioned that he was 59 when this was made. Nobody has said that he’s a monster at 6’6” and around 260 lbs. of muscle. The Octopus is also a Beast!

Yes and he's super gentle, jovial and humble. He's spiritually connected to his heart.
You have just seen the holy grail of drumming. Danny is the epitome of being 100% complete in the art of musicality and drumming. It doesnt get much more complex than this.

No lies detected. There are and have been other amazing on-a-whole-other-level drummers. Neil Peart and John Bonham comes to mind, but Danny is in a universe all to his own. The degree of dificulty at which he plays on EVERY single MFing song is off the charts. 4 different time signatures, 1 for each limb. Are you Fing kidding me. I can't even do 2. And I'd love it if we had some baseball stats fanatic Tool fans who would count every drumhit for an entire concert/album and compare it to ANYbody else and Pneuma really isn't even shit on the Danny part of the WOW scale compared to a lot of other songs. I hope with every fiber of me, that there is whole concerts of footage like this, cuz I'd love to see Lateralus, The Pot etc etc etc something fierce! :-)
Danny exists in all time signatures simultaneously.
The thing about drummers for those that are not versed in music theory nor do play an instrument is that people usually thing that the hard part of playing drums is t play hard and fast but that's extremely far from the truth. What Danny does in this song (and to be fair in most of Tool's songs) is absolutely mind blowing. There's very few drummers in the world able to play this and even less who could compose something on this level of complexity and give it the refined taste Danny has in each and every moment. I've seen dozens of regular drummers and drum teachers react to this and the reaction is always the same: their minds get blown away. Since you're not familiar with Tool I would definitely start that journey soon, but in my opinion and contrary to what most of the Tool army is gonna suggest you I would start with their earlier stuff and keep moving forward cronologically. It will make much more sense in the long run. And be prepared, Tool is a rabbit hole like no other.

the fact that he play poly makes it even more amazing. Imagine being so good that you can drum off beat from the track itself the whole damn time. Flawless.

09:55 these are the faces when you have absolutely no clue what's going on..:) his drumming is not comprehensible if you don't play an instrument, even trying to count is more or less senseless cause it's often just uncountable what he's playing. danny is just inhuman, one of the best drummers on the planet. and yes, you're right - tool is a trip.! you definitely should check out some tool stuff... ♥♥

I’ve seen Tool live a few times. Danny Carey is a show within a show. You’re just watching something spectacular.
Google the time signature for this song , it will blow your mind. Time you would think to be 4/4 but it is 33/16.... 🤯
Danny Carey is definitely one of the GOAT’s!! This video was so well done and you can see how relaxed Danny looks while he murders (figuratively speaking) those drums!
Thanks for the reaction. Great video, sent it over to a musician friend who'll also get a kick out of the behind the scenes with Carey. Also, Chels is a trooper for carrying on sans contact. :)
So glad you mentioned how that this is only one song out of a catalogue of over like five dozen. I saw them play this live here in New Zealand literally a week before COVID hit and Pneuma was maybe the sixth track in the set. The physical and mental stamina Danny possesses is truly something else and at near 60 years old too. Definitely in for more Tool reactions and I highly recommend you see them live when they start touring again next year.
"Oh Sh*t. Here we go again" i will never be tired of people reacting to this unbelievable performance.
And when I say one of the best ever, it is to ensure to pay respect to the drummers that preceded him. Danny is absolutely a freaking genius and a monster, one of the greatest.
Drummers have a sense of rhythm few people could comprehend 😮😮😮😮
He also made a deal with the devil. I don’t know what Danny got, but the devil got drum lessons!
I cried when I heard them play this live, after obsessing over his video. It was amazing.
A jazz drummer at heart.

I loved your reaction and your wish that they put the drum cam on more Tool songs. You have a new subscriber 🤟
Tool is fairly unique as far as stage presence goes, because normally the spotlight is on singer as the front man, Maynard usually doesn't usually like being the center of attention, and as he and the other bandmates have said on many occasions Danny is simply an amazing specimen and in truth he is legitimately probably the best drummer alive so spotlights are usually on him. Meanwhile, Maynard is skulking in the shadows like that movie "The Crow". You can actually see his mohawk walk behind Danny in this very video near the end as you noticed.
The song you didn't know the name of is The Pot. There is actually a video of him sitting in with a kids band and playing the drums for that song. Pretty cool thing to do and neat to see how much fun he had while doing it.
Seeing tool live was one of the best things ever. Hearing this song was unbelievable!!!
There's a Lateralus tour drum cam somwhere. He used to have a bronze kit made from Paiste cymbals. They played songs from Lateralus on that play through... same shit. Balls out. He's my hero.
Another amazing drum performance is Xanadu by Rush (1981 Exit Stage Left) Neil Peart is phenomenal. Not a drum cam, but you see plenty.
Been a massive tool fan for 20 plus years now. Danny Carey is a goat, I've watched this multiple times and it still blows my mind. I'm glad you guys got to watch a master at work. Plz check out there music, here are some songs. Sober, the pot, forty six and two,. Deftones ft Maynard James Keenan from tool ( passenger).
Mind blowing

Danny crushing at 60 years old!!!!
D. Carey is a beast. Each limb is its own drummer. He’s as smooth as Larry Bird was, never seeming to be in over his head, always cool and smooth with perfect timing. I always mistakenly thought the sound you heard was just the result of layering of different tracks. I thought there was no way one human being could produce those sounds on his own….then this video awakened me. This guy is super-human.
“I’m in a tans…” LOVE IT🔥🔥

Danny is sick asf, bro is godly at the drums fr💯🙏🏼
I leave this comment on every reaction to this song, but the tabla groove around 6:28 is my favorite part of this specific recording. It could be shit headphones, but it's barely noticeable in the studio version, but mixed so well here. The triplets, the snare hits, the lil blast-beat style fill straight back into the tabla groove, it's just so good.
Do more tool please! You will fall in love with it , I mainly listen to rap well used to then tool grabbed me in took me on a new journey and now I’m a metal head
The Tool army will flood this page in 3... 2.... 1...
Danny damn near 60 in this video..hes in damn good shape for a rock drummer thats been doing as long as they have. He literally split his brain into 4 pieces during that interlude where he was just showing complete control of every limb at its finest!
welcome to the club
Watch how stationary his elbow level is. No wasted motion. Every movement has a purpose

the drummer support the singer very good
Danny plays Jazz at The Baked Potato Jazz Club in L.A. with The Doug Webb Allstars. Archived videos with multi camera and Great!! audio are at TBP website well worth the price to see him play a convention kit and Jazz music
As a drummer I'd like to say 'Dat Boy Good '!

Some short tool songs would be off their original first album Opiate. Definitely got a check out more tool bro they mean so much to so many people
Yes they have a long discography with very complicated songs and it's not like they pick eight songs and rehearse the crap out of them before they take off ....they alternate songs out and put new ones in throughout the tour based on how Maynard is feeling that night and how much he can scream or not scream.
Didn't know the human beings could do something like this damn😊😊😊😊😊

I love the quote " they have so many albums " 😃 - just 6 in 31 years of career
At 14:45 you mention the set list. Danny has a set list between the two cabinets/mixers/whatever-they-are behind him to the left. You can read the list when the camera is on Danny's left side, if you can pause the vid when the camera isn't vibrating. Pneuma looks to be fourth or maybe fifth in. I haven't found the perfect pause point to read them all (and some are obscured by a cymbal) but I can make out Jambi, Vicarious, Invincible, and Stinkfist.
Whatever city Tool is playing in, Danny gets a jersey, if they have a basketball team. I believe there was a basketball scholarship, but Danny wanted to play music.
Edit: thanks for the like and heart. It made my day. In case anyone is wondering, the name of the song he hinted at by saying “who are you to wave your finger” is called “the pot” by TOOL. (One of my old faves by them).
He’s an absolute beast 🤟🏼
It's like a very precise and intense interpretive dance.... with drums.
🤘 the grudge pl0x
He's a beast... specially in this song, the syncopated and odd rythms they use and the central part where he enters in "octopus mode" is genius... Some days ago, I saw another drum cam video that you might consider view... byt Vlad Ulasevich from Jinjer playing the song Mediator: kzread.info/dash/bejne/nWqM0cupo8eYYqg.html Maybe it would be another good review for you guys... or at least watch it and share your thoughts!!
