In case you wondered...the Fibonacci sequence is in the syllable counts of each line of the lyrics in the verses... "Black(1),then(1),white are(2),all I see(3),in my in-fan-cy(5),red and yel-low then came to be(8),rea-ching out to me(5),lets me see(3)" The syllable counts keep going up and down the sequence throughout the verses "swinging on the spiral"...

This entire album is pure enlightenment, any day you're questioning life, your purpose, your sadness, your happiness....run this album from end to end.....Maynard is pure, he gets it, he realized at this point in life that he needed to look inside and fix himself, take the time to read the lyrics.....

Still to this day my all time favorite Tool song. Also Mat and Chels I agree with you and recommend going for a walk and listening to this album from front to back, I hate using a cliche but Tool is something that is an experience more than just a band imo. Maynard’s voice is totally ASMR for sure lol

My favorite song of all time. I use to run to it and would finish my two miles and feet like I didn’t even put in any effort.

Best song ever written. Hands down.

One of the best lyricists I've ever encountered, amazing technical prowess by all bandmates, Tool is still a journey everytime I listen to them.

Just listen to the whole album. Timeless and classic!

Masterpiece and the best song ever recorded (imho). Will be taught in all future music courses. Album is fire start to this finish.

My top 5: The Pot, The Patient, Right in Two, Invincible, Jambi. Ticks & Leeches will always have a place in my heart bc it got me into Tool (I later learned the irony of that statement). Tool fans would be along for the ride if y'all chose to react to their chronological discography. Short of that I'd recommend eventually reacting to: Forty Six & 2, Aenema, Pushit Pretty much all of Lateralus lol: The Grudge, The Patient, Schism, Ticks & Leeches, Disposition/Reflection/Triad Jambi, Wings For Marie + 10,000 days, The Pot, Rosetta Stoned, Right in Two Invincible, Descending, 7empest Keep it up guys!! Enjoyed it!

Tool puts on the best indoor concert ever,. Outside they still kick ass but indoors they punch you in the face with their music, how they roll it off the ceiling. Feels like an acid trip.

I live for reactions to this song. The best reaction I’ve seen was an hour long, and the dude gave an initial review and then his final thoughts one week later after listening multiple times

Haha I commended him for taking his time to digest and appreciate it. When I got into Tool at first starting 2001 it was with a guitarist's ears. Then I started playing drums and it all took on a new meaning. Later I got into the lyrics and I found yet another level of appreciation. One simply can't absorb what they need to on a single listen.

Chels I/m right there with you .I graduated in '93 and remember hearing sober and thinking yeah this rocks.But I never really knew at the time how complex and unique Tool really is.I know appreciate and love Tool now more than ever .And yes ,some herb definitely enhances all Tool songs !

Lateralus is basically lateral thought. The parts of the song where the Fibonacci sequence show up are in the verses. His syllable count follows the sequence up and then back down. And the chorus is a sequence of 9/8, 8/8, 7/8 time signatures. 987 is a number in the sequence as well. There are other things scattered throughout the song that are more subtle, but those are usually the easiest things to catch. He also talks a lot about spiral, which in and of itself represents the Fibonacci sequence.

Lateralus inspired me to go skydiving on my own 50th birthday. Wore a Tool shirt when I did it. Don't let your overthinking and over analyzing stop you from going with the flow. Trust your instincts and enjoy life. Don't be afraid of taking chances.. Spiral Out!

Guitarist Adam Jones before Tool made/sculptured the dinosaur's in Jurassic Park. He does their videos, hence their uniqueness. But the songs r better w/o videos so as to concentrate on the great music and singing.
