    Danny turned up at rehearsals: Let me start up on the Mandela pads, and then let us jump into the first verse resolving in 33/8 sub-framed as 5/8, 11/8, 12/8, 5/8 of metric oddness while we release the tension by dropping down to 4/4 in the bridges. Oh, by the way, I have this interlude in mind for the middle part. It starts up in poly-metric madness, but I will bring them down to revolve around my high-hat going in 4/4, slowly letting the pad cycles (say 5 doublets with the right arm and a triple-pattern with the left arm while feet makes quarters) down from odd numbers into squares so we can all unleash the tension again at the end of it pushing 4/4 before we drop it back in the 33/8 resolution again - but way harder every time before I cycle back to to the origins. Bandmembers - Hi Danny. Sure. Justin: (bass player) It sounds fun. Do you mind if I syncopate the living hell of the quarter-core while you do your thing? Danny: That would be great if you bothered to do that. Adam (guitarist) : Oh I want to overlay the bass, but reversed and doing multiple bars sustained chords while we are not doing the tight quarter tension release. Maynard: Sounds good, I'll just go back-stage and have a coffee while you guys have fun, send me an SMS when you are ready to get back into the 33/8 verse cycle again and I'll be right there with you to deliver some more vocals without anybody even noticing I was gone (you can actually see him going backstage in this video). Tool-fans: Jupp, that is pretty much how they roll. And next time they step down from the musical heavens to record some good for us mere mortals, Danny will be 75 years old per their usual studio cycle. While Danny will be optimistic and say they may have a new record out this summer, as the adorable, cute and gigantic man he is.

    TooL is and always will be my favorite band. They’ve touched my life on so many levels. Truly the maestros of my life. Yesterday (Saturday morning) I was driving to Purdue Small Animal hospital where my 11 year old English Bulldog Uma was in critical care but setbacks over the week had forced my decision to send her to the dog park in the great beyond. Excruciating. While driving there the last thing on my mind was choosing any specific tune. But Pneuma did randomly play. Pneuma is that which is breathed or blown/a vital spirit/soul. Although not focusing on it I recognized (likely by heightened emotions) this song I’ve listened to countless times was comforting me...but didn’t know immediately why...but when Maynard says “become pneuma” it hit me...my best friend needed my help to “become pneUMA”. @@joefleming3911 yup, and it was a lesson I learned after many frustrating hours as I was recording the entire discography with Danny removed and me added. I can't exactly post that, pretty sure that'd be illegal lol, but I removed the drum stems from every single Tool song, and am working my way through them all. 100% through Opiate and Undertow, 75ish% through Aneima, roughly the same with Lateralis, and not quite halfway through 10k days. As far as for FE? Yeah, dreading that one to be honest. Don't think my 35 years of drumming have gotten me to that level.

    I absolutely love that moment, when people "drummers especially" are blown away by Danny, talk about how amazing he is, then that bridge happens. Then they realize when he starts closing the pattern in, and when a really experienced versed drummer hears how he's shortening the bars, leading up to the climax. They were blown away with the rather mundane"for Danny, not us" drums leading to the bridge, but then.....

    @@spades077 I have to disagree with you there. He is NOT Tool. He is an essential component to the beautiful creative machine that is Tool. There is not a single component of this group that can be replaced, without fundamentally damaging the output. If any one of them leave, the whole dies. It's just the way it is. A good example of this is listening to Undertow followed directly by Aenima "whatever, I ain't no speller". While Undertow and Opiate are great music, and the musicianship is top notch noteworthy, the follow up, doesn't even sound like the same band. Hell, the gulf between the two in terms of, oh every single aspect you can think of, is wider than the political views of AOC and Donald Trump lmao. I ask you, what changed? What happened between those two albums to elevate the latter one's musicianship so insanely much higher? A new bass player. That's it, so you mean that we go from Swamp Song to 46&2, eventually on to this album with the addition of what too many people don't realize, including musicians unfortunately, is even an important part of music. If you don't have that crazy assed playing style of Adam's guitar parts, or the nuanced way Maynard plays with the placement and emphasis on every single syllable he sings, and the multiple almost infinite layers of meaning and interpretation he's somehow able to pack into every single lyric he writes, not to mention the sound that comes out when he sings them, or the subtle melodic way Justin chooses a random 16th note near the end of a phrase he's played 44 times in the song, and accents that one note, that one time, and never again, adds a mountain of depth to the entire piece, which if course he mainly wrote himself, along with a huge chunk of the album it's on, then you don't have Tool. You'll have great musicians, you'll have great music, but unless it's Maynard, Adam, Justin, AND Danny, you will not have Tool. So, no, Danny ABSOLUTELY IS NOT Tool. He is however God. Lmao;

  • @publicprofilename4273

    @publicprofilename4273

    2 жыл бұрын

    I'd argue that if Justin had not joined Tool. We would not be talking about them now. They'd have probably done another album or 2, and they would be great music, but they would not have metamorphiist into what I consider to be nearly spiritually transcendent. Eventually they'd have faded into the past, like all the others. They'd probably have broken up, and of course in the past few years, they'd have done the now obligatory reunion tour and maybe mediocre album,made a few bucks and that'd be that. Fortunately for us all, it didn't play out that way. I'm sure there's a Tool song already on album that someone could dig into and analyze in such a way, they'd be able to interpret it as a song written about the alternate reality where that's the way it went for Tool lmao.... Hooker With A Penis maybe? Or Stinkfizt lmao.
