Daniel's melodies and chords are so whimsical and rarely used. They remind me somehow of the vaudeville era and old carnival atmospheres or something. Incredibly sophisticated and incredibly throwback arrangements all at once. A genius composer.

the amazing part is that it's mostly written in standard tunning or open D (sometimes D6). Golden Mile its just standard but with a capo on the 3th fret :D he's a magician

This song is maybe the most representative of his style of playing. He is at once truly unique and full to the gills with chops.

Indeed - also, It’s in the hands - my boy Dan has got some monster hands. I met him in New Orleans in 2017 - lead singer Ed of Grizzly Bear is friends with a ballet dancer friend of mine and met them backstage at Civic Theater - very very humble guy given his heroic guitar skills - he is probably my biggest guitar hero. Anyways - about the hands he’s Not a tall guy, but I remember thinking damn he’s got some paws! As a guitar player, that certainly can give you an edge

@@mattengland653 Hey, thanks for the anecdote. I'm super jealous you got to meet both Dan and Ed! And yes, I hadn't noticed his hands but I'm sure that definitely helps with some of his unique chord choices.

This version lacks the bass, drums, backup vocals.... Yet it hits harder. Rossen on the guitar- one man army....

Very impressive guitar technique.. If you are an observer, you will notice that there are no chords or random picking, even when he plays the low notes seems calculated.

Why don't more people play 12 strings - my Dad has always played one and I've always thought it was the coolest sound and such an underappreciated instrument.
