Dan Schueftan on the Palestine-Israel Conflict

He has also been involved in policy advising, contributing his expertise to government agencies and defense establishments.
One notable aspect of Schueftan's work is his willingness to engage with controversial topics, such as anti-Semitism and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, both in academic settings and public forums. the danger to liberalism is too much liberalism- and in current western liberal society to even entertain the idea that there are cultures with incompatible values, or god forbid, detrimental values auto-designates you as the worst evil. I've said similarly: I've met Afghanis whom I quite like, but as a generality, I don't want Afghanis living near me or even in the USA or Europe since a big part of their culture seems to result in things like the Taliban, subjugation of women, and life like some kind of Barbary States fever dream. The US can spend decades and untold fortunes and effort trying to "westernize" only to find out that "no, we quite like our tribes and Jezails"

@@Firguy Any conflict requires clarity especially moral clarity. Why one is fighting? What one is fighting for? So one should have a clear purpose for a war/battle/conflict. Look at the US/British/Western interventions in the last 25 years. Afghanistan, Serbia, Iraq, Syria, Palestine, Ukraine, Libya. There is no clarity in western countries as to what they are fighting for? Are they trying to change the culture, politics of the enemy nation, like they did in WW 2 with Japan and Germany? No they didn’t do this. They had no such plans? There is no ideological or moral clarity. All these wars were moral quagmires and ended up as quagmires on the battlefield as well. From defeating the enemy to becoming champions of girls education and building sewerage systems. All these wars were mired in confusion. What this gentleman-if he has any any say on the Israel side- is this clarity- Don’t take any pressure from any side- UN (where murderous dictators and democracies sit side by side as equals) don’t listen to UN. Nothing matters more than the safety and security of Israel citizens. He is open to dialogue and gives plenty of reaching out to the Palestrina side over the past decades, all to no avail. One has to believe in the side he is fighting for. That matters as much as the arms and ammunitions. Look at the Islamic Jihadis. This rag tag army of religious zealots who don’t have any major ammunition to fight with and yet have brought the whole world to its knees. They believe in their project. They can hijack your aeroplanes and knock your skyscrapers with the same. That’s the clearest example of belief in action. If there is any doubt you will give ground to the enemy. Also do have a look at the western intellectuals in press, on TV , in acedemia- the liberals are eager to shed tears for the Palestinian side- which in itself is not wrong - but few care to note that it is always the Palestinian side that initiates violence, who start the killings. When Israel responds, the Palestinians show their wounds wanting aid, food and sympathy. This is depravity. The gentleman sees through this.

@@Firguy 30000 people buried under the rubble on Gaza side don’t have a perspective, they are experiencing reality first hand. Similarly thousands of rockets fired on the Israeli civilians defines their reality - it is immaterial what perspective rest of the world including UN, you and I have sitting far away. Violence has to be dealt with first hand by hiding, attacking , running away and occasionally by wanting to have a dialogue and negotiation. BBC gave their perspective when a rocket fell on the Al Shifa hospital- without any means of knowing. Newspaper editors write about their perspective depending upon on whether they are from left or right of the political spectrum. Similarly with the hundreds of TV war reporters and in the digital media. If you and I have a fight we would both know who initiated violence and we can end it if we choose to or take it to the conclusion where one of us is not able to fight anymore. Situation with nations warring is not much different. Rest of the world has no business meddling here. Lot of people have sympathy for the weaker side but that doesn’t mean weaker side is the right side. The warring sides will stop when they have had enough. If we can’t persuade them to end it, let them see the consequences of their actions.

@@billyaxon The propaganda purposefully misleads because it misrepresents many of the people killed in Gaza as innocent. This is done by presenting groups of people killed by their characteristics instead of by their actions. For instance, it's easy to make people seem more sympathetic by presenting them as women and children first because most civilized people living in the west see women and children as primarily innocent, not perpetrators of violence. However, many of the women killed is Gaza are not like western women but are actively aiding their Hamas husbands/boyfriends/fathers/sons in waging war against jews. If a 17 year old 'child' firing a machine gun is killed by Isreal, should we we count them first as a child or first as a soldier that was killed? Did you learn much about the history of war in school? War involves the killing of both soldiers and civilians. If you were to making up a ranking to list every war/battle from the most focused on soldiers (ideal as far as war goes) to the highest ratio of civilians killed (worst type of war), where do you think the Palestinians involved in Oct 7 attacks would be on that ranking? Clearly, of the two groups Israel more more ethic in their war tactics than the Palestinians. You should relisten to this video from 9:21 to 14:00.

Except that there was no such thing, no behead babies, no babies burnt in ovens, no tortured children, no children strung up on washing lines, as has been admitted now by Israeli authorities. Also the allegations of mass rape is completely unfounded, there may have been one or two but there is no corroborating evidence, only a small number of witnesses alleged that from hundreds of witnesses, e.g. one witness who said he saw a rape was hiding in bushes with a group of people and none of the others who were with him confirmed that. This is also available from Israeli media. One glaring omission from the first responders and whoever dealt with the bodies was the complete lack of collection of forensic evidence for any of the re sexual violence, which is a dereliction of duty for any potential victims, DNA evidence is of course vital for genuine victims to have justice!

The reason for this is not Israel. The weakness of the countries of the region is the reason. How can you allow yourself to widen this scientific and military gap between you and the West to this point over the past 150 years? We know the West well, and our history with them is as long as , Russia , East Asia and the rest When you become weak, they will annihilate you en masse, exploit you in the worst way, and plant Israel and its brothers among you. The so-called Israel is not to blame for anything. They are just a tool that carries out what is dictated to them. The question is where are we? A country like Egypt can completely change the region in all aspects (culturally - scientifically - strategically). When Egypt falls ill, the entire Middle East becomes worthless We are the ones who blame ourselves for our weakness. The enemy, in any case, has a well-known history and has neither humanity nor mercy. Islamic extremists also have a major role, and are well used by the West, Israel, and even Russian intelligence services and others to implement their agenda in the region @@hus390

They believe being obedient and eschewing their own collective interests in favor of the interests of the oligarchs makes them good people.

I agree. But what is "truth?" That, my friend, is the rub. From my perspective, God is Truth. God is also Life, Love, and eternal good. God is a wholesome, balanced, and sustainable Mother Nature. But mankind has dug a deep, dark, dank hole and leaped into it head first. The world conflicts now in operation are just an offshoot of man's dereliction of his duties as a created being to uphold peace, love, and harmony. So, back to your statement. You're right, the world can't handle the truth. But when and where do we start to clearly define and reflect "truth?" Has there ever in the history of man been an international meeting of nations to define truth as a principle to live with, by, and for? NO! And that is the rub.

@garybarr1045 every individual has a desire to live by the truth. That's why there's a term, called "cognitive dissonance," which was coined to describe the uneasiness one feels when he holds conflicting opinions. The notion of truth being undefined isn't the problem. The notion of believing that one's version of the truth is correct, in the face of counterveiling evidence, which we call "bias," is the problem. It is exacerbated by our tribalism, which causes us to feel comfort when in the presence of like-minded people. This is the call for homogeneity among groups and why western thought, incorporating the idea of diversity, was such a departure from tribalism, but it still required a connective tissue in the form of ideology. While the world is still full of conflict, the expanse of peace has been building for thousands of years. I share your yearning for a peaceful life for all, but I think we disagree about where we are and the trajectory from here.

It’s easy to say that they should have accepted a partition plan that gave to new comers (a minority of the population) who landed from the boat within the past 15-20 years, majority of the land. Imagine if the migrants landing on Italian shores in the last 10 years demanded a partition to establish their own state in Italy? Will Italians reject it? Of course! …… Utter rubbish spout by this man! Palestinians live under martial laws and that drives them nuts, as you would . The irony is that the "Palestinians " are just pawns to be sacrificed by the radical religious islamic regime in iran. Fantastic interview on so many levels. I especially love his emphasis on the fact that you cannot judge them with our value system because theirs really is different. I’ve been saying this for years. You have to look at the *actual* culture and history of a people and learn to understand their point of view, why that exists in their culture. In most cases I can think of offhand, this learning about the other culture will contribute to getting along better - but this assumes a shared fundamental type of value system. You also have to believe what people themselves say. When people tell you who they are, believe them. When they tell you what they plan to do, believe that, too.
