Dan Ashworth to United & Is The Champions League Boring? | Stick to Football EP 19
Спорт
Welcome back to Stick to Football with Gary Neville, Jamie Carragher, Roy Keane and Jill Scott - the original show from the award-winning The Overlap, brought to you by Sky Bet.
With Ian away in St Lucia and Jill back in the studio, the panel kick off the show with the reaction to the first round of the Champions League knock-out stages, where holders Manchester City beat FC Copenhagen whilst Harry Kane’s Bayern Munich lose to Lazio.
Gary, Jamie, Roy and Jill discuss whether any team can anyone stop Pep’s City, whether the Champions League has gone stale or not and how next season’s rule change could be beneficial to Europe’s elite competition.
As Manchester United have approached Newcastle United’s director of football Dan Ashworth, the team talk about what changes he could bring to Old Trafford if he decides to move and how important the off-the-field staff have on a modern football club.
Lastly we end on our Super 6 segment, has Gary pulled further ahead of Roy and who will they predict in the latest round of fixtures?
We’re approaching one million subscribers, so please don’t forget to hit subscribe to never miss an episode!

I agree with Jamie about the away goal taking some joy from these fixtures. Imagine how massive lazio's 1-0 vs bayern Munich would be if away goals still counted. It would mean that lazio could go to Allianz only needing to score 1. Without the away goal rule it feels like bayern will inevitably roll lazio over as they won't fear lazio getting an away goal. It would add so much more tension to the first legs of the round of 16. Something that's been somewhat stripped away by taking the away goal rule off

Carra saying this is Ten Hag's football is pretty disingenuous. I think Ten Hag couldn't fully implement his system in his 1st season because of De Gea, so he had to adapt it. This season, he has Onana, but then he lost his entire back 4 and holding midfield for the majority of the season ... He has tried to implement his style at times, but we were shipping goals, so again he has had to adjust. Obviously results and performances need to be better, but I've got faith performances will improve if he's given another 18 months.

I hate the fact that crosses are less frequent during games, the amount of times wingers choose not to cross and instead pass the ball around for it to come to nothing can be infuriating. How many times during the last 10 minutes when teams are chasing a goal do decide to cross and it WORKS! Decent crosses if not scored can also cause chaos for for opposing teams.

The problem with city is everything they do just feels soulless and empty, I can’t explain it, but it’s just no matter what they do It just doesn’t resonate at all, extremely boring, empty, soulless. If you take any player out of their team and put them in another side they would be the heart and soul of the team and exciting to watch, foden, grealish, for me they are being held back by being in a squad where it’s only about position, never taking risks unless it’s almost guaranteed to deliver something. Does Gary remember the curler scored by Luis Figo when he was playing for Madrid against United in the Champions League? Just saw a clip of it again, unreal goal. Curled right past him into top bins
Just my opinion, but I feel the reason a lot of the lower league teams don’t get many set piece goals is because teams all play the same way now in terms of tactics. I find football very boring these days because of that.
So it’s fine for Guardiola to celebrate a win against Everton like it’s his first league win, but Arteta gets a dressing down if he celebrates a win against Liverpool. Make it make sense.
I agree with Gaz to a point about City but as a Saints fan, everytime we played City it was the one time for where it always felt like the game could go either way and that’s the same feeling for all the big times too so where most teams feared & played super defensive, we felt up for it & always took the game to them.
Always looking for this show, it takes away the boredom seeing the panel laugh
