+Andrew Park she is an alto. he is a tenor. they both ate amazing. but technically his range and pitch are more valuable. and he hits falsetto without a drop in vocal integrity. as a singer myself. I can attest to how hard that is to do. he's got a fantastic control over his voice. can be attained with enough practice by anyone with talent vocally, but most never get there. notice how when she goes high you can hear her volume drop, this is not on purpose or meant to be. it's because she struggles to get on top of the note. she's got a beautiful voice. Not saying she doesn't. but he is better.

I've noticed when she goes higher she pulls back or faces away in a lot of performances. Love both their voices, especially hers in Eskimo

the best part of damien rice is that he doesn't write about love in the same fluffy way that most other singers do. he represents it in a really different light, which is something i really enjoy from him. when everyone else is singing about love more directly and really sexual, or just fluffed up... damien is singing about love when it's just raw and natural. there's no glam behind it and it's not done up. it's about the components of love and not just love itself, you know? he does it differently than everyone else. not just in the lyrical department, either. the strings and the piano are used a lot in his songs, and i admire it, because no matter what those two instruments will always be the most soothing for me instead of what i usually hear. i don't know i just really love damien rice thank you for reading this huge block of text tldr damien sings about love 'raw' rather than 'glam' and his use of instruments is calming. inb4 "pop is ok too sometimes" it sure is but i prefer this. have your own taste if you want

I've been noticing lately that the majority of my favorite songs have that same essence to them. That rawness you can't quite put your finger on...that really hits the feels. A lot of them also have cello & piano too, actually. Re Damien...I feel like he kinda lost a lot when Lisa Flannigan stopped working with him. Such incredible harmonies. Her voice is something really special, feels Ike it brought out the honesty & truth even more.

[Verse 1: Damien Rice] Don't hold yourself like that You'll hurt your knees Well I kissed your mouth and back But that's all I need Don't build your world around Volcanoes melt you down [Chorus: Damien Rice & Lisa Hannigan] What I am to you is not real What I am to you, you do not need What I am to you is not what you mean to me You give me miles and miles of mountains And I'll ask for the sea [Verse 2: Lisa Hannigan] Don't throw yourself like that In front of me I kissed your mouth, your back Is that all you need? Don't drag my love around Volcanoes melt me down [Chorus: Damien Rice & Lisa Hannigan] What I am to you is not real What I am to you, you do not need What I am to you is not what you mean to me You give me miles and miles of mountains And I'll ask . . I'd just like to add my interpretation to the conversation. I think it is about love gone bad, but not because either person stopped caring or because they want the next thing. I think it's about two people who just cannot fulfill each others needs no matter how hard they try. Giving someone miles and miles of mountains seems to imply they are trying desperately to make their partner happy, but they ask for the sea, meaning they need something completely different than what is being offered. Even though what is being offered is actually quite a lot and probably requires a lot of effort and possibly even love, it just isn't what that person needs to be happy. I think that makes it even more tragic. It's not about someone losing interest in the relationship; it's about two people who keep trying and failing to make each other happy. Anyway, that's just my interpretation.

I think they are deeply in love with each other. However, the difference in their age is creating different “needs” from both. I think it’s about maturity and ultimately letting her go..... because he realizes she has to live and experience life, so they can hopefully be on the same page some day. He doesn’t want to let her go, he does it for her. Love ❤️ this song

i remember seeing this for the first time back when it was first released on VH1 (in 2002). It was just mesmerizing. And unlike today, I had to loiter in and around VH1 for the next few hours until they played it again. Its 20+ years later, and its just as hypnotizing today as it was back then.

Don't hold yourself like that You'll hurt your knees I kissed your mouth and back But that's all I need Don't build your world around volcanoes melt you down What I am to you is not real What I am to you you do not need What I am to you is not what you mean to me You give me miles and miles of mountains And I'll ask for the sea Don't throw yourself like that In front of me I kissed your mouth your back Is that all you need? Don't drag my love around volcanoes melt me down What I am to you is not real What I am to you you do not need What I am to you is not what you mean to me You give me miles and miles of mountains And I'll ask for what I give to you Is just what i'm going through This is nothing new No no just another phase of finding what I really need Is what makes me bleed And like a new disease she's still too young to treat Volcanoes melt me down She's still too young I kissed your mouth You do not need me

Such a beautiful song. I first heard this song it was way back in mid school. I had all but forgotten it, until the melody popped into my head and when I found it and heard it again, it really made me emotional. Thanks for this video.
