But at the end he sings..in till j meet someone new. That's how you have to play life, love and wisdom. You will feel the same way again. It's just human emotion.

This song is like a time machine. I remember being at the cinema in London with my friend at the premiere of the film. It was the happiest period of my life. We were young and happy. Now after 20 years she still lives in London, I live in Poland all the time but when I come back to this song, I close my eyes and we are together again in this cinema...This wonderful girl is now a beautiful, wonderful woman. I will always remember her.I can't take my mind off her...

We used to listen to this song together. And then we both on our own way. This 5 minute song left me crumbled. Now, years have passed, I finally have the gut to come back here and listen to it again. They say time heals. I don't think so. Time just makes you forget how it feels like

No bro time heals and you will forget about everything. It's up to you to decide to move on or to stay stuck. Accept that she's gone and give time to your mind and body and you will eventually heal back. You must accept the fact that s.one is gone. People come and go everyday, and life goes on. Just be patient

Maybe I'm wrong here but the Irish have a particular love of the word "so", which is why it's more poinant. I lived there for a while, so, and some of them couldn't end a feckin sentence, so, without adding "so", "so" :) It's used as in English but also used differently, like an emphasis, and general word. Anyway, feck ye, I'm off to reorganise the press.

I’ve never in 15 years commented on a video, but as this popped up I started crying then turning into sobbing. It takes me back to a time in my life where I was happy, happier, healthier…and with the man I loved. Now in 2023, I sit here crying at it. I haven’t heard it in a year. I’m 49, I’ve loved through a lot of decades of songs, so why this song? As I read the comments, I am crying with all of you. ❤

I was a young dreamer, we were at university by the sea. We were such opposites and we fell into a deep love. Nothing like I had experienced before or since. We grew together, she changed me for the better. A euphoric and longing a deep connection. But the inevitability of winter came. This song reminds me of that time. I sit here 20 years have passed, in my kitchen, my son watches me and smiles, as we both eat our cereal. His dreams yet to happen, mine are passed memories. I smile, the sun shines, that love I had then is now reflected in his eyes. Life is love, to love and be loved and nothing more. I remember her, the song takes me there, but that loved shaped me for what I have now. My wife and two beautiful boys.

Your story makes me sad because even though I imagine you truly love your wife now, and would never change anything because you have your children and a family who you love dearly, it is obvious that you settled for a safe love. But every now and then you hear a song, you remember a memory, and you remember what it feels like to truly love like fire. The greatest feeling in the world, for you is now only a distant memory, and not a reality. Sometimes when we love and lose, we play it safe, and we settle for safe love, and forget about how powerful love can actually be. The kind of love that consumes our entire soul. 💔

Twenty odd years that has passed softly, casually into the sands of time. I remember SO vividly a Sunday afternoon as this song played on an old fashioned radio. I sat with a cigarette in one hand and a glass of some scottish magic in another peering out to the rain ponding down on the garden outside the conservatory. We`d parted months ago but somehow (stupidly) i had still believed it was a bump in our time together not the end. But that morning as I pulled into the garage to fill up my car by pure chance she was coming out of the shop. She didn`t see me or recognise my vechile as she was laughing and wrapped up in conversation with another man. I knew her so-so well and I recognised her smile and the animated way she laughed as she leant into him. In a state of near panic I went home and found solace in a bottle. I`d knew I would never hold or kiss her again and she was gone forever as she had forgotten "The breeze" as the song says

I am one of a lucky few, I found my soul mate quite young in life, when I was 18, we got married when I was 20, my husband was 22. We have been together for 39 years. Finding your soul mate doesn't mean you ride off together into endless happiness, it means that you have someone who always has your back and Vice Versa. It's someone who unconditionally loves you exactly the way you are. Someone who doesn't care about how you look, your weight your height and beauty. They can see past all of that and love what's within you that makes you, you.

Sorry to spoil this for you: this song isn't about love, but about not being loved back. The bridge with the female voice says: "Did I say that I loathe you? Did I say that I want to leave it all behind?" It is about Damien not being loved back by his Sax (may be other blowing instrument, but it's irrelevant) teacher's daughter (hence, the blower's daughter). Call it what you will, but it's most definitely not a love song. It is a very beautiful song, though.

+Bearsus It's based on a true story. He worked at a call center and struck up conversation with this woman- they had a flirtation and fell in love over some time on the phone. He eventually went to her house and she was outside ( he recognized her voice) and to his astonishment- she was a just a school girl in uniform. "Can't take my eyes off of you" was his disbelief as he stood staring at this young girl, this child, that had played his heart- no concept of the destruction her manipulation had caused. She was a game to him. So twisted-- gives me chills. One doesn't usually think of a child, an innocent ( not so innocent) as the perpetrator.

+Luke Gibbons a song meaning is what you bring to it. If it's romantic to you, it's a romantic song- period. So many walk down the aisle to "Every Breath You Take"...which is about a stalker. But hey, they think it's romantic, so why not. Beautiful that it has enriched your life- that's what's important. Your wife is fortunate to have a romantic soul for a partner :)

I know, right? Adam's song choice was so right on for Matt. Damien Rice's music makes it easy for great artist's to sing his songs. Another American Idol sang one of his songs, "Creep" and blew it away. She came in 2nd last year. I so love her "special" way she sang it!! I love me some Damien Rice music.

This song is like a decade old. Damien Rice just released his first album in many years.. and some poser cover's this song and gets a thousand times the publicity. If people would stop being spoon-fed top 40, maybe they'd uncover beautiful music before ten years have passed. P.S. This whole album is great.. check it out!

Mason Fuchs I know this song is a decade old. I've heard other songs from Damien Rice as well and the album O. I was just paying homage to the great artistry here, that was performed tonight on a TV show and done the justice it deserved being sung by someone who did not originate it. So bring it down a notch on the assuming there.

you're right and I guess damien rice knows that NOW too. but like I said - he was 27 and she was 20. yes almost seven years together but as I said they were very young. and ppl change a lot at that age. Especially a lot of young men don't appreciate such love or a really good relationship till it is too late. Quite a few of my friends had the same problem (at that age) and they all tried to get their love back. no one with success..... (young) women fight for their relationships till they (have to) give up and come to an end. a lot of (young) men start to fight when their love is gone. then they realize what they have lost - but most of the time too late... sry, my english isn't that good. cheers ;)

I had a friend who is now dead. He fell in love with a girl and asked her to marry him. She turned him down. He was never the same. This went on for like 20 years, at least, with him being depressed, and he never dated any other woman after her. I could never get him to come out of his depression. Maybe one day in heaven he will get to see her again.

When I cry, I go back to this song over and over again. It's not because my love life, it's all about me to myself. I described this song from me to me. Sometimes I feel I'm not "like I said it would be, life goes easy on me" and sometimes I loathed myself and feel like can't hold on and just wanna go from this life, then again I realized and started to questioning things I said and felt before "Did I say that I loathe you? Did I say that I want to leave it all behind?". To hear and sing this song, always makes me feel better. Thank You, Damien

To the haters on either side. So I found out about Damien Rice thanks to Matt's performance last night. So what? Either way, props to both artists. Good songs hold up to different interpretations, and the best artists know how to mold music&lyrics to create something unique. Props to both producers, the instrumentalists *and* in this case, ok,extra props to Damien Rice for writing the song. Just fyi, The Voice needed his permission to use the song, so he was on board with this.

The Blower's Daughter' is an absolutely stunning piece of music that showcases his incredible talent as both a singer and a songwriter. The haunting melody and emotionally charged lyrics are simply mesmerizing, and Rice's voice is so raw and emotive that it's impossible not to be moved by this song. The stripped-down arrangement only adds to the intimacy and emotional power of the performance, making it feel like Rice is singing directly to your soul.♥

I love stories like this. How music can transport us to an exact moment in our lives with perfect clarity. My version was with Same Old Auld Lang Syne, by Dan Fogelberg. I was driving to Atlanta on a cold dreary December morning, and I was sitting in my car in a gas station parking lot when it came on the radio. I sat there and wept hot tears for a love I had never gotten over. That moment is burned in my memory forever.

So miss the times when a movie made me fall in love with a song, immediately ran to buy the cd or cassette or whatever that was relevant at the time rather than to my phone to listen to it on spotify or youtube or whatever. And to do this with a film by a legend like Mike Nichols, with "up and coming actors". Almost 20 years later and still remember how hard this film hit me accompanied by a marvelous song i still listen to this day.
