People stayed home and watched "Dallas" instead because they knew Reagan was lock to win the election; although, they didn't want either him or Carter as President. Also, cable was in its infancy trying to find itself and there were 3 networks at the time (ABC, NBC, and CBS). Dallas was on CBS and the other two didn't have anything good on at that time.

Mary Crosby was hot damn sexy, not to mention the equal of JR in nastiness. Too bad her character didn't continue on the show. Is there truth to the rumor that she wanted more money and a bigger role in the series? And that's why the producers had her written out? It's a shame because she could have become one of the big "hits" of the show. Especially as a nemesis for JR.

Irl Larry Hagman and Mary Crosby (Bing's Granddaughter) were good friends he argued to keep her apart of the series to exec producer Leonard Katzman, but to no avail as she didn't have a contract with CBS after the 1980 season,so it was deemed by the shows writers to have it be kristen the one who shot J.R. as she was deemed the most expendable.

One problem... In the actual episode when Sue Ellen went over to Kristen’s apartment, she never put down the gun. She held the gun and the drink at the same time and then left. Check it out.
The Simpsons Who Shot Mr. Burns was inspired by this plot on Dallas.
Interesting that when the taxi pulled up into the driveway with Sue Ellen she was on location at the real Southfork, but the rest of the scene was shot on the soundstage.
They should have had it be someone completely unexpected, like the cop with the big moustache from the Village People or Commissioner Gordon out of Batman. Nobody would have won any bets on that.

Good Stuff.

They actually did do a 2012 revival show of Dallas that lasted from, well, 2012-2014 on TNT. Does that count?
Mary Crosby was hot damn sexy, not to mention the equal of JR in nastiness. Too bad her character didn't continue on the show. Is there truth to the rumor that she wanted more money and a bigger role in the series? And that's why the producers had her written out? It's a shame because she could have become one of the big "hits" of the show. Especially as a nemesis for JR.

Kristin was a very resentful young lady who hated the fact that Sue Ellen had this "Glamorous Life" and she didn't. She overstayed her Welcome at Southfork, and Framed her own Sister. She eventually got hers in The Long Run. Poor Christopher, his Bio Mother and Adoptive Mother are both Gone.

I'm surprised that Sue Ellen was allowed on The Grounds considering the circumstances. I had to laugh when I heard the Horses in the background. I reminded me of how Ralph Di Bricissart found out how Mary Carson left him her Fifteen Million Dollar Fortune that enabled him to climb into the higher levels of The Church. The Horses were howling in The background as if they understood what happened.
