    The transformation of Larry Hagman from character Tony Nelson to JR Ewing was amazing. He went from a sitcom wimp to a conniving Texas oil man in short order. Whoever made the decision to cast him for the part deserves the same plaudits as the person who cast Peter Falk as Columbo.

    And I read somewhere that Larry Hagman was gonna leave the show and there were a few other actors who were up for the role had he left. Can’t think of them all but I did read actors Robert Colbert and Robert Culp.

    JR is my favorite tv villain of all time. I became hooked on this show a few years back after watching a couple of episodes from season 2. I loved to watch JR bribe, blackmail, and wheel and deal. Now I understand what the fuss was about when this show was on in primetime.

    Exactamundo, those people who keeps saying Tony Soprano was the first TV antihero gave me a chuckle, lmao. JR was and is the one and only and the original antihero and a true badass to boot. Don't need no Prozac or shrinks to feel good either, crushing his opponents is what gave JR a high.

    Yep.. This shows why it's impossible to imagine anyone else playing this character other than Larry Hagman. The casual way he destroys this little bug (as he sees him) is simply entertaining.. The smiles, the casual conversation about his brothers wedding as he is making a simple phone call that destroys this guy.. Lol... Awesome

    Though you wouldn't believe it there was great friendship among the cast. When Larry Hagman discovered that his fellow cast weren't being offered the same pay as he was he went on strike. Also when he was dying Linda Evans visited him every day.

    This scene really stands out in my mind, even though the guy in bed only appeared this one time, and by the way, he also played Jack Abbott on The Young and The Restless. J.R. didn't just take his girl, he also got the guy fired from his job. Damn, that was savage!

    Actually he became a regular on the soap opera The Young & The Restless. He's the original character of Jack Abbott. His name was Terri Lester. He died young. ☺

    Mary Crosby was sooooo hot as Kristin! Love the shot of her near the end in that short skirt! It's a shame they didn't keep her on the show. She would have been a great nemesis for JR. After the "Who Shot JR?" episode it seems like they quickly wrote her out of the show.

    I was SURE they were going to revive her character, and that she would be revealed as J.R.’s attempted assassin... or perhaps set up to take the fall, and I even heard rumours to that effect... it would be someone ELSE’S wife who got set for life... For poor Rudy, that Atlanta line cut like a knife....
