Victoria Principal's riveting & realistic performance in her bedroom (with Cliff & Jamie in attendance) was AWESOME!! In my opinion, when Pam was written off at the end of the 1986-1987 season, "Dallas" was never of the same caliber afterwards. :-(

Love the scene between JR & MissEllie, she knew JR was losing himself to grief so she distracts him by asking him to pour a brandy, she then briefly holds his hand after she says “I’ll be right back” in a tender, motherly way

Say what you want about JR, but, aside from being a ruthless businessman, deep inside he did care about his family. He loved his son John Ross and really cared about his father and his brother Bobby (although they had many issues). In fact, their deaths crushed him. He was definitely the villain of the show but he wasn´t a total monster.

Scott Clayton - I agree. The first half was great. Dynasty’s influence can be seen. For one, the living room at Southfork was suddenly redecorated with much nicer furnishings (never explained as earlier in the day it had the older furniture). Angelica Nero came along to bring some Dynasty-sequel glamour. It did kind of lose its way around the time of Pam’s adventures in South America, and didn’t recover for the rest of the season. Oh, and yes, the first couple episodes of this season were indeed dark and sad.

Bad writing. Sue Ellen was the love of JR's life. He insulted her before, such as calling her a tramp and a slut, but it was usually in reaction to an affair she was having or to an insult coming from Sue Ellen. The real JR that we had become accustomed to would not have talked to Sue Ellen like that. Also, JR was with Many Winger when he learned about Bobby's injury. So how could he be mad because Sue Ellen was out herself? And later that season JR was in the office and recalled how he first met Sue Ellen. He went on and on about her, and Mandy Winger walked away. Also, Clayton was a strong, proud man. No way the Clayton of season 5 and 6 would have allowed JR to talk to Sue Ellen that way without punching JR in the face. Sue Ellen was like a daughter to Clayton.

She was having dinner with Dusty. Seriously, I'm still disappointed that they basically have the dream start the minute Bobby cuts the light off, and yet there was a crap load of stuff that happened even before Bobby got run over a and honestly I think they just wanted to just bring Bobby back and hope people couldn't remember Dusty was even there or pretend that Sue Ellen just imagined it. As much as I thought the "dream season" was ingenious, it felt more like a dream than the actual dream season. I mean they couldn't even match Bobby's outfit from Swan Song. I remembered back in 86 at around ten if they were still going for the Bogus Bobby or not, because it was all snowy on my TV and I didn't know until years later it was obviously being booked as a dream. Hey, the post-dream season got better . . . but seriously . . .

The moral of the story is never ever antagonise anyone that is grieving. JR may have been evil but he was grieving and the last thing he needed was to be antagonised. He was always going to snap. Even the nicest people in the world snap when antagonised when grieving. It can even be something that usually flies over the head. It happened to me once. Something was said and 9 out of 10 times it would be laughed at. I was grieving and I snapped. I just are you hard of hearing, I don't give a fuck. This is most likely why on soaps now people will say, so and so went missing, instead of killing them off on camera. That way other shows won't have a dream season as well. One thing is for sure, there was no way Dallas was going to go on and still rank high in the ratings with Patrick gone. The chemistry between him and Larry Hagman had to be there to make it successful. Larry always kind of ribbed Patrick afterwards saying it was the worst decision he ever made to leave the show and Patrick agreed with him.

Dean , it's been a long time so I could be wrong. but I think Valene didn't want to return to Dallas dispite Bobby's death and she even warrned Gary about going back for the funeral..........I'm not 100% sure since I didn't watch Knotts Landing and just a clip of the scene on youtube. a while back.

Due to the advancement of the Knots Landing storyline and Bobby's death being written into the Knots storyline during the 85-86 season, Bobby Ewing remained dead in the parallel universe of Knots Landing.
