Dallas Bobby's Will

Ойын-сауық

Bobby's Will - as requested by MrsBobbyJamesEwing.
I didn't like this season as much, but it was still good. It was too soft at times. The end to this scene is great though, when JR and Pam look at eachother.
Don't forget to watch the NEW Dallas series coming June 13th on TNT (US) and on BRAVO (Canada).

Soojee Pyo Larry Hagman said playing JR was like having a license to steal! He played him with a wink and a nod to the audience and his genius, paid off a hundredfold! Because of his talent, he played JR Ewing in a way that the viewers loved to hate. I always on JR’s side and I’m sure deep down that everyone that watched this series, felt the same way. How many TV villains had such forgiving followers? Larry WAS Dallas and because of his portrayal of JR Ewing, he became the true star and glue that kept Dallas on TV. He was irreplaceable and he knew it and he masterfully played the producers and network executives to renegotiate a deal that made him the highest paid and powerful actor on TV. A great man and my favorite actor. God bless and rest you, Mr Hagman. 👍

Pam and JR are looking at each other and saying to themselves after learning that Pam is holding Christopher's shares in Ewing Oil "You have got to be kidding me!" Of course, this is what the Creator of Dallas(David Jacobs) wanted. To set up Pam and JR as protagonist and Antagonist and leaving the rest of the Ewings to mourn Bobby's death. Victoria Principal and Larry Hagman did a good job during this season!

A piece of trivia: Did anyone know that when Dallas was original conceived, Bobby was suppose to die in a car accident, and leave his percentage of Ewing Oil to Pam? The series was then supposed to be about Pam going on with her life without the love of her life and having to deal daily with the Ewings, especially JR. By the time the 5 part miniseries ended, Bobby proved to be too popular of a character to kill off so they scrapped that original ending.

HnHBlkM - I do recall reading about that. Only problem was Bobby didn’t own any part of Ewing Oil. Jock owned it all. Perhaps Pam would have received an inheritance from Bobby, but she would likely have taken it and left. Not sure why she would stay (the concept had her remaining at Southfork for dramatic purposes I believe).

  • @bramlintrent1145

    @bramlintrent1145

Pretty clearly the inspiration for the initial miniseries was "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" by Tennessee Williams, with Jock as Big Daddy, Miss Ellie as Big Mama, Bobby and Pam as Brick and Maggie, JR & Sue Ellen as Brother Man and Sister Woman, and Lucy as the No-Neck Monster ...... In "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof", Maggie was always the one who had to stand-up to Gooper. I believe that by intending to kill-off Bobby early in the show's run, David Jacobs intended to fully capitalize on the battles between Maggie the Cat and Brother Man.

Yeah, that blew me away! Also when Bobby talked about The Pocket Watch, it kind of reminded me of the one that Chase Gioberti inherited on the Pilot Episode of Falcon Crest. altha 2014 yes but patrick Duffy wanted out he thought he was going to be a big Hollywood star instead he only made a film for tv only. He knew he made a mistake and it was Duffy wife that actually said if you have to get back into that show season 9 will have to be a dream plus Larry hagman was not getting on with producer Philip capice and threatened to leave the show unless they brought back Bobby and then the famous shower scene which was actually made for a ad for Irish spring water and they incorporated into the show and the rest is history

Patrick Duffy wanted to leave the show to explore other acting opportunities. The producers chose to kill him off. Larry Hagman was the one that talked him into coming back.

@redletter2008 You're absolutely right. I'm so sorry. I forgot about all of that History. I'm a hopeless romantic and they were always my favorite couple. To me Bobby was such a great guy. Kind, compassionate, and forgiving and although he was far from perfect, he always tried to do the right thing. I almost forgot about Katherine and what she did. I think I realize now with Jenna, she discovered how "lucky" she was to have a second chance with Bobby.

Bobby's death or his return didn't hurt the show- Pamela leaving the show hurt it. JR then lost focus, then Sue Ellen left and Ray... etc. ...the series should have ended in 1988.

You're right. The producers were told head of time and they didn't believe her that she wanted to leave in a set time. They tried to get George Kennedy and get rid of William Smithers in hindsight that wasn't a good idea. But yeah you're right that start of the trail downward.

Alex Luna He always looked as Gary as a "Weakling" because he couldn't handle the high expectations that Jock placed on them. Bobby could and because Ray only found out he was a Ewing in Later Years didn't have to deal with Jock the way he did. Gary was more Southworth than Ewing in the sense the he had a love of the Land. Personally speaking, I don't think that Jock thought too highly of Arthur Southworth since he couldn't save The Southfork on his own.

Yeah, you're right. I remember watching Dallas The Early Years and when Jock said goodbye to The Foster Family who went from having nothing to having so much and when he was getting to leave, he kissed Mrs. Foster which was quite a brave thing to do in the 1930's, a White Guy Kissing A Black Woman. It was kind of strange, they had Hispanics as Subservient Workers but with the exception of The BBQ Episode, you never saw them associate with Visitble Minorities.

Later in this season JR is no where near as nasty as he had been to the pont of not at all. Making peace with Sue Ellen treating her right, not cheating her, just about making peace with Cliff , Jamie and Pam, been ok with Clayton, Ray & Donna. He even as the show was coming to a close was starting to become a life saving anti hero especially in his partnering along and being friendly with Dack Rambo. This season wasn't so bad.

This is the far the most underrated season of the show. Without Bobby everyone focused on his loss and never gave credit ( or even a hoot) to the shenanigans of this season. True they had to erase it to bring Bobby back, but that was because the head honchos hadn’t the time to create another good storyline to bring Bobby back in another realistic way. They had only a few months to do it. True it had other issues like the glitter and glamour which hadn’t been made for Dallas, but it wasn’t that bad overall. Those glitches still could of been fixed had the seasons end continued.

I sure do miss the 70s and 80s television! I wish Dallas could have lasted forever! Bobby Ewing was soooooo hot! And Pam was perfect, in every way that women care about! She was smart, beautiful, loyal, and most of all, Independent! There was nothing that J.R. Ewing didn't know about the oil business, and that made him hot as well!!!!! Damn, I miss the original series!!!

No, Gary already got a Inheritance from Jock's Will although he got "Less" than JR & Bobby but got "More" than Ray. The reason why Bobby left Gary a Horse was because out of all of The Ewing Sons, Gary was the one who had the most love of the Land and was good with Horses, Gary also had a closer bond with Bobby than he ever did with JR. Also, in Miss Ellie's Eyes, Gary had more characteristics of a Southworth than a Ewing which Jock wasn't impressed by.

I just do not believe that Pam would dream about Ray and Donna's personal life. So, in the next season Ray and Donna should have stayed married with their adopted hearing impaired son, Tony. I did not mind that Patrick wanted to come back to the show. But does that mean since Bobby is back, should Ray and Donna should still lead separate lives, and then divorce, no of course not. Just because Bobby is back does not give the writers' the right to divorce Ray and Donna. As season progressed the viewers see less and less of Donna at South Fork.
