When this show was originally on TV, it was the show to watch. People today often forget that our forms of entertainment were 3 or 4 channels on tv or what entertainment we made for ourselves. No cell phones, computers, etc. This show even all these years later is worth watching through it's entirety because it is that good.

@@jdtractorman7445 I had 100+ channels on cable since about 1975 and had a car phone in the 80's. In 1980 I took Basic programming course. We were not in the stone age then. But every decade brings tremendous advances. Just wish I can live longer to see it.

There's footage filmed of people watching this for the first time and people's reactions were incredible...screaming in disbelief and joy. This is television history right here...one of the biggest chockers of all time...Bobby in the shower. Of course for younger people they cannot fathom what the fuss is about, but this was MAJOR stuff. The fact that we are commenting and talking about it almost 40 years later is proof enough.

I have to tell my history with Dallas, and it stems from a video game lol. I got Goldeneye 007 for my Nintendo 64 when I was 9 in 1997. I got into the movie series, and Never Say Never Again was my favorite. In Nov 1998 when I was 10, I stumbled through the channels and found Barbara Carrera. I then saw her eating dinner with Larry Hagman that I recognized from I Dream of Jeannie reruns. I began to watch each night and became more hooked. After my gram moved to Florida near us in Jan 1999, I learned she was a fan during the original run. I stayed at her townhouse each Friday 1999 to late 2000 before her cancer got too much, and I watched the reruns with her. I viewed at my folks home otherwise. I do remember watching when JR threw Pierce off the balcony, and Sue Ellen shot him with my gramma. I think my folks came through the door at that point after having eaten out. I am one that remembers the little details.

There were rumors that Pam would have found Mark dead in the shower but I heard the actor say that they never filmed that. So who knows? I think at the point they had VP film that scene the producers knew how they were going to use it, so idk how much they invested into the rest of that scene, but I'm not 100 percent sure about that. Personally, I did not enjoy the season where Bobby was dead. It started out ok, but then devolved into a clone of Dynasty with all the international intrigue and costume parties, and over the top wardrobe, and characters I didn't care about. When I saw the season premiere in 1986, and Bobby said that "none of that happened" I was shocked. When it cut to the next scenes it was (for me) like watching the classic DALLAS that I loved from the earlier seasons. I think it put the show back to where it took a wrong turn. It only fell apart for me once Victoria Principal left and there was no more Romeo and Juliet.

Later in this season JR is no where near as nasty as he had been to the pont of not at all. Making peace with Sue Ellen treating her right, not cheating her, just about making peace with Cliff , Jamie and Pam, been ok with Clayton, Ray & Donna. He even as the show was coming to a close was starting to become a life saving anti hero especially in his partnering along and being friendly with Dack Rambo. This season wasn't so bad.

I loved season 9! Most of it was REALLY good! Victoria Principal was out with a bad back part of that season but the beginning and towards the end of season 9 was when the show was at it's best. Bobby could have come back another way but the shows creators wanted us all to forget about season 9. Barbra Caraira was a class act villain brought in that year to compete with Joan Collins on rival night time soap "Dynasty". That year "Dallas" hired the designer who made Marilyn Monroe's dresses. Latrry Hagman didn't like that they were starting to look like "Dynasty". Season 10 the comparisons stopped as "Dallas" went back to the what made the night time so popular. Victioria Principal character was written off at the end of season 10. The show never really recovered after that. new characters were brought in but the show pretty much ran it's course.

When I look back now rewatching the dream year, Ray and Donna had such a better marriage with the pregnancy and adoption story. Jenna seemed much more positive and happier than the next season where she was in turmoil pregnant by Bobby after he chose Pam. The only plus after the dream was seeing a stronger Sue Ellen who finally learned how to handle JR. Pam became much weaker after the dream remarrying Bobby and upset about Jenna’s pregnancy.

As I mentioned on another video, the original cliffhanger for this season - before Duffy agreed to return - was "Is Ben Stivers really Jock Ewing?". Earlier in the above episode, Sue Ellen and Miss Ellie are shown searching Southfork for Clayton when Sue Ellen sudden;y decides to go into Dallas to check on JR. After the explosion at Ewing Oil, they were going to cut back to Ellie who, still looking for Clayton, goes into the bunkhouse and looks through Ben's things. There, she finds Jock's buckle and knife and the letters she wrote to him while he was in South America. Ben then enters, and tells her the items are "mine." Basically, this is the same scene that occurs between Ellie and Wes early in the following season. Once Duffy agreed to return, they added the scene of Pam walking to the shower and opening the door. In order to keep Bobby's method of return a secret, Victoria Principal was told that Pam would discover Mark lying unconscious - perhaps dead - on the shower floor (I don't believe the shot of Mark on the floor was ever filmed). Later, the insert of Duffy in the shower was filmed at a separate location with a separate crew who were told they were doing a commercial for Irish Spring soap. On his cue, Duffy turned, said "good morning", paused for a second, and then continued with ". . . and you can have a good morning too with Irish Spring soap . . . blah, blah, blah."

They said “cut” and thanked her for coming back in to film this, as the season had already finished filming. She was kept in the dark about Bobby being in the shower and didn’t know until the episode aired that May.

Victoria Principal didn't leave over the dream season. Where did you come up with that? She's stated many times that she had planned to leave at the end of Season 9 (season 10 on the DVDs). The fact that Season 8 was a dream had nothing to do with her decision to leave at the end of her contract. Also, Susan Howard has said in interviews that she went head to head with the producers over a storyline where she encourages Jenna to have an abortion and she said that it was against her beliefs and refused to do it. That started the issues with her and the producers and her being so vocal about erasing the entire season as a dream was the nail in the coffin.

I don't think that would have worked. They went all out and showed Bobby flat lining in the hospital, then went on to have a funeral and spent the first part of the season in mourning. They could not have explained away all of that by saying he was in a coma. Apparently Patrick Duffy was adamant that Bobby had to die because he originally had no intention on ever coming back. I don't dislike the "dream" explanation as much as I used too, it just kind of sucks that the season that was dreamed away was a pretty good one. Probably the last good season of Dallas. The "dream season" was certainly the last season that Dallas was a top 10 show.
