Czech M10 Gas Mask Angry review and failed test

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Angry review and a failed test of the Czechoslovakian M10 gas mask, the M10 is a cheek filter mask, meaning rather than taking conventional screw-on filter cannisters, the mask has flat filters stuffed inside the cheeks, cheek filter masks are totally obsolete and heavily flawed at the design phase.
Watch me get very angry trying to assemble the mask and then get even more annoyed when it doesn't work in the testing phase.

Sort of how the recommended algorithm works. One day you look at a DIY table video because it looks neat, then the next day suddenly you have nothing but DIY videos in your recommended list because that's what the AI thinks you like to watch. I got my first m10m in late '14 and ill say the filters work well for hazardous gasses given the 30+ year age of the filters i was using (foil wrapped NBC filters), the old roomies mixed ammonia and bleach in the toilet and gassed out the apartment. I get a call 10 minutes after they left about what they did to my amazement at their ignorance of chemicals, and an explanation for the bad smell in the place, I dawn my m10m in my room with filters that have been installed months earlier and I cleared the house by opening all the windows and doors and didnt smell a thing the time i had it on nor experienced the burn on my eyes or nose.

    Putting the filters in is horrible indeed, but I do think cheek filters aren't a bad idea - it depends on the situation. They have benefits: 2 filters --> lower breathing resistance No side weight, no front weight, so very comfortable (in my opinion) and easy to move in --> good for riot police The M10M has a great voice daphragm in my opinion - Definetely better than the S10, which is a premium modern mask It has extra lens outserts, and while I haven't tested them yet, I've read online they're great for Airsoft, and actually the only mask viable for it. Mine smelled quite smoky, but other than that I liked it a lot after having calmed down from the 15 min filter install procedure.

  • @Weaponsandstuff93

    @Weaponsandstuff93

    7 жыл бұрын

    For Riot police they are fine, however in a military gas attack scenario. The filter is constantly exposed due to it's design so the filter will expire very quickly, if it runs out while exposed to gas the wearer of the mask can't change the filter and will die.

  • @sven_k

    @sven_k

    7 жыл бұрын

    Yeah it's totally stupid for any military use. I don't think it was used for that tho, I think it was mostly a riot police mask. Why they'd include a drinking straw on there is a mystery to me though. You'd die from not being able to change out the filter before you'd die from dehydration...

    I think I read something to the extent that the stock filters for these Czech masks are only for organic, acid gases. Such as tear gas, chlorine gas, pepper spray, and decaying food. Fragrance sprays can have more complex chemicals. I use disposable 3M half face masks that have charcoal/activated carbon in them frequently for dealing with chlorine pool chemicals. Which those are fine for outdoors in an enviorment where the gas can dissapate. I tried those 3Ms against shampoo, conditioner, and soap fragrences and those fragrences got through. However against a standard Swedish Military 60mm filter for the Nokia masks, those kind of fragrences did not get through.

    I think the Gulf War was the final nail in the coffin for the M17, the realisation that everyone else had the better idea of having 40mm masks and that American soldiers would die if gas was used because the filters had already expired by being in the cheek pouches of the masks. I don't actually know how cheek filter masks weren't stopped at the design phase and yet they somehow made millions of the things.

  • @Weaponsandstuff93

    I think it's because the filters are so small they can't actually make a proper combination filter like standard metal cannister filters. In an NBC filter, the front section is particulate/HEPA filter, to block large particles, the second section is the carbon filter to adsorb poisons that are smaller than air. The M17 filter I believe is only actually the carbon half so you would need to know in advance what the enemy was going to attack you with for the filters to protect you.

    Haha, I have this mask, it is my favourite one. Yes I always figured it was a novelty after trying it on but I am still convinced somehow because of the amount of face & neck coverage you get & the extra layer of thick lense & chemical cover that it will provide better protection against beta radiation & possibly small does of gamma that thinner gas masks wouldn't protect against. What are your thoughts on this, providing the filters works is there a better one that fits this purpose or an improvisation technique that you could apply to say a CM-5D?

  • @Weaponsandstuff93

    @Weaponsandstuff93

    I would always advise against cheek filter masks simply because you cannot change the filters without taking the mask off. You could always wrap a mask in tin foil if you thought that the mask was too thin to stop beta particles.

    @bladesmilitariauk5013

    I've heard low doses of gamma radiation 100RAD or lower for example may not require lead or at least a thick layer of lead to protect against. Could this potentially be blocked by a thick NBC suit & maybe also completely mummifying yourself in an extra few layers of tin foil for example? I'm still traumatised from Threads :-(

    Well, I will be straight forward: You are right with the filter problem of them not being replaceable during use. But until now I only had good experiences with this mask. It fits perfectly, the filters still work (5th pair right now) and the only problem that is based on an optional feature is the reinforced glasses that tighten the mask a bit aroung your eyes. 7/10

  • @Weaponsandstuff93

    Just an FYI, the way your hair is all in where the seal should be completely negates the proper seal. The mask is riding too high on your face and even though it may seem like you have a successful "don and clear", you dont have a proper seal. Just my humble Marine Corps opinion. I have several of these along with other masks and replacement filters for all of them. The unopened sealed filters are fine, as they deteriorate after being exposed to the elements, moisture and particulates.
