No resources were wasted on crypto. In the absence of Cyrpto all the members would have wanted their time on something at least as useless. Probably avoided a lot of bomb making. It sucked up time that would have been wasted anyway.

@@rolandnelson6722 Ya don't think the insurance racket has enough of the numerical hokey-pokey about it that these folks so enjoy? Insurance may be a stupid and exploitive rip-off for the most part, but at least it assmbles useful piles of capital that can do some good for the overall economy -- at least sometimes, when the guys running the whole thing can't quite figger our a way of vanishing it.

It are both ridiculously mild sentences. If you rob a bank you go to jail for life. If you are the bank and rob your clients, you get a few years at best.

25 years, given that he will serve 85%+, is in no way a mild sentence. It's less than he might have got but, well 25 years ago is a lifetime to me. 4 months.... I am intrigued as to what the guys think.

And again, got to point out that robbery and theft are not the same thing. Robbery, by definition, involves violence or its threat. Theft does not. If you run into a bank with a shotgun demanding money, it's two orders of magnitude worse. The bank cheats you of money there's no risk you'll be killed or maimed.

If CZ could provide certain government agencies with an analysis of crypto wallets that passed crypto thru his exchange; I can see where he would be given special treatment. Plus any successful irs audits that resulted in substantial penalties; CZ would get a cut of.

25 years was not what I'd call a "harsh sentence" for the scope of what Bankman-Fried pulled. FTX and the Department of Justice were gunning for a minimum of 40, preferably around 50 years. Madoff got put away long enough to die in prison.

CZ has the reach and stamina but I think SBF has the drive and he has probably been hardened by time on the inside, SBF in two rounds
