I took mine out first time after pulling my Nikon 223 off my ar and a quick mount job. Blew the center out of all my targets at 25 then moved to 50 and same result, with blue box federal, cci minimags and some Aguila that a friend gave me. Couldn’t be more excited about a 22. My Cz is right on the money.

I appreciate a good honest review where you see the whole target. I had two 455 varmints and they shot like your 457. I want to try again with the 457 but it seems through everything I have looked at, its a 50-50 chance on getting one to shoot MOA. There is a reason they won't offer the same guarantee they do on the MTR. The new Anschutz 1761 is getting some good reviews and like you said the Begara and even the Christensen Arms 22 coming out look to be a lot more promising. More bucks for sure but if accuracy is what you want, buy this at your own risk. Anyways, good work on the video. I've watched others of yours. Appreciate you effort,

Just bought a 457 ultra lux. Sighted in the scope last week and did some first time target shooting. I was very impressed. At 25 yds it will stack bullets on top of each other. Using Winchester M22 bulk ammo 1000 rounds for about $50 bucks. I'am hitting the 1" target 8 out of 10 times. Than took 5 shots at 100 yards and did a 2" group . I have found the more I shoot the better it gets. I did not see these results when I first fired the rifle. I would guess I have 400 rounds through the gun now.

In the process of getting it setup with a Magpul Bipod / Area 419 30 MOA Picatinny converter / topped with a Vortex 4-12 x 40 Diamondback scope but my barrel is only 16 inches long. I've worked and worked with my 457 Varmint and just can't get it to be consistent from one group to the next. It'll shoot pretty good for a group or two and then goes off the rails and I've tested WAY too many types of ammo searching for an answer. All shooting off a level concrete bench too in excellent conditions with great glass. Different torque settings on the action screws, you name it. It's just not as good as the 455's and damn sure isn't as good as my Tikka T1x. It's a beautiful rifle and I begged it to perform, but in the end mine simply won't shoot. I think I got a lemon because CZ makes really good stuff.

I have a CZ457 Provarmint. I put aluminum pillars, hardened action screws, Yodave trigger spring, area 419 30 moa rail, DIP large bolt knob, opened the barrel channel and it shoot .25" groups @ 50yds with Wolf Match Extra, .25-.325" with SK Rifle Match, and .325-.5" with SK Standard Plus. But mine only has a 16.5" varmint and the shorter, fatty barrels are pretty rigid and usually not as sensitive to different ammunition as a longer barrel. 25in/lbs is pretty low for CZ most people get theirs to shoot the best at 35-45in/lbs but I wouldn't exceed 50in/lbs as the screws will strip. Mine likes being at 40-45in/lbs

@@coreyd1474 you're right it wont change the group a lot but I've seen about 0.25"' difference. I was talking to my local rifle builder that mods CZ's at a rimfire match and I was asking him what he sees with accuracy stock vs. his mod (he threads the reciever and barrel for more reliable headspacing and uses premium barrel blanks) and he said his went from shooting 0.5"-1" stock to shooting .25"-.5" after his work. So maybe I got lucky with mine but I have seen other Provarmints shoot very well. I’ve owned the 452 & 453 rifles in 22LR & .17HMR. I purchased one that absolutely would not shoot anything accurately with anything. My experience with CZ is that if it won’t shoot Wolf MT consistantly well then you have a problem. After eliminating all the variables on my end I sent it back to Cz. They shot it and came to the same conclusion that I did and they sent me a new rifle to replace it. They don’t try to determine what the issue is that causes inaccuracy. Once they verify it they just replace it if it’s within the warranty period. I love CZ products but I am not a blind fanboy. CZ produces a turd from time to time. It happens. Fanboys seem to have their personal masculinity tied to a brand name and are personally insulted if their brand is criticized. Brands like CZ & Glock have some tenaciously loyal customers that cannot handle criticism of their pet.

Well that just sucks Corey. While I understand your frustrations, taking a bit more time with it may have improved many of those issues. It took a good while before I learned my 455 to shoot .8 or less consistently. At first, my 457 didn't do so well either. Then I learned that I didn't need to torque action screws when either bedded or pillared. Fixed my issues right away. With and without bi-pod and/or cheap/expensive ammo too. And no, I'm not like the other CZ fanboys who shoot 1/8 groups at a 100 yards. I'm much better at 1/16... Kidding aside, just as you took the time working with your other rifle, maybe the same should have gone into your CZ. Also, your groups weren't bad for a standard non-match barrel. What a lot of these you tube commenters forget to mention is that they likely modified their CZ to the point the only thing CZ is the action. Anyway, I wish you would've had a better experience and got your money back. Good day and good shooting.

I like your reviews, but have some reservations about them, and some of the comments. First, the 457 Varmint has the 20.5 inch barrel, correct? Also you seem to compare this model a lot with the Ruger Precision with 18 inch barrel... so I'm wondering how either would compare to the CZ 457 American with the 24.8 inch barrel. Also too, I wonder about the bullet velocity and either barrels "rate of twist" or "Rifling" but I see they are both the same @ 1:16. And the 457 American is the same also. I have a Ruger 10/22 with a Green Mountain bull barrel, chambered for the CCI Stinger ( slightly longer case ) and it shoots pretty much along the lines of what either of these do in your reviews. I would like to know how/why you seem to measure the results differently in this review than in the Ruger Precision Ammo part 1 and 2... i.e. I am looking at Eley Target and seeing only one of the groups over 2.0 yet you indicate AVG 3.47 ... is that a "projection" of the results at 100 yards? If so, why not shoot it at 100 yard? Anyway... it's all good stuff... I am still trying to decide to bu a CZ 457 American or Ruger Precision, very close in price on Davidson's. I'm a Ruger fan but have seen reviews on the CZ, that compare it to the Anschütz .22 LR and .22 Magnum, at a much, much higher price point. Also a tip... check out gunbot.net to see a listing for comparison of ammo available and different ways to select ( i.e. price per round or by brand ) with links to the seller/distributor.

@Phix I finally decided... I purchased the Ruger Precision Rimfire in .22 WMR. I am very pleased. I put my Vortex 6-24x50 FFP scope on it... and I'm getting about a 1 inch group at 200 yards... not a typo... at 200 yards! It shoots the 30 grain "Varmint" ( Hornady/CCI ) better... but does amazing with the very affordable Federal 40 grain FMJ truncated too! Great trigger pull, down to 2.25 lbs ( I believe ) ... I paid plenty for new triggers on my 10/22 and Gunsite Scout to achieve what comes "stock" on the new Precision rifle... With 15 round magazine it was about $385 ( US ) at Davidson's. ( Scope and mount cost more! )

I am three years late, and maybe you don't even have the rifle anymore. I have found that when I get a new rifle it is usually filthy in the bore. You said you ran a bore snake through it 5 times. I would thoroughly clean the barrel. I use JB bore paste with a good CLP or gun oil. This has the effect of lapping the barrel, and with these less expensive rifles the factory does not hand lap them. Looks like you are correctly seasoning the barrel before shooting groups for each ammo. Perhaps shoot indoors at 25 yards with a rest to start. All CZ 457s come with the same action and trigger, so adjust your trigger as low as you can get it because trigger pull weight will affect your accuracy. Perhaps put in a YoDave trigger spring. Maybe take it to a gunsmith and measure headspace. Perhaps shim the barrel to tighten up the chamber a bit. Play around with action screw torque. Lastly, maybe swap out the barrel for an MTR barrel or aftermarket match barrel.

Start out with one of your more preferred ammo choices and at around 15 inch pounds and work up stopping around 35-40.

Any distribution of factory made rifles will follow a bell shaped curve for accuracy. Actually, I probably should say barrel as the rest of the rifle doesn't count for much except the trigger. A few will be great, a few will be awful and the majority will be somewhere in between. When you pay more, like for an Annie, you are getting quality control that weeds out the worst of them. With a $500 rifle you roll the dice.

I have almost that exact set-up but without the Area 419 bolt knob and my scope is a Nikon Black FX 1000 4-16x50. Same rings and same Area 419 pic rail and unfortunately the SAME results. I shot CCI Green Tag (only because my old Ruger 10/22 with an aftermarket bull barrel loves it) Federal Gold Medal, Geco Match 22 LR and Wolf Extra Match. 1st time out was off bags and a rest, yesterday was with a bipod and then off the heavy rest. No difference, it sucked and I'm pretty pissed. I'm going to pull it apart and check the torque of the screws but otherwise I WILL dump it. At 50 yards my chrome lined AR's will shoot better that this rifle.

CZ rifles are not anymore what they have been in 60's. (Mod. 452) To get one which is shooting good is dependent on "luck of the draw". I did get two CZ 455 and bullet dispersion on factory target is 31 mm and 27mm on varmint at 50 meters using RWS ammo. At the range I did find one CZ 457 having dispersion on factory target 19 mm. Eley Target is the second cheapest ammo they make. it's still about $65 for 500 today, in 2022. the best for the CZ 457, I have two Varmint Trainers, is the Eley Tenex and the Eley Match. I consistently shoot sub .35 at 50 yards. I shoot matches and at 50 yards, I hit the 1/4" circle 97% of the time with Match and Tenex. remember also that not all lots are the same. also, you should NEVER put any ammo above 1120fps in a match, or Benz barrel like the higher end CZs. if you think Target is expensive, you'll faint at the Tenex price, $195 for a brick of 500, plus tax, shipping and the $25 fee the FFL dealer charges. to train, I use Eley Club, $80 for a brick
