The images were not xrays they were CT scans. They look different to plain X-rays because they take a different angle. So they could quite easily have been a X-ray. Also, this episode is about 15 years old, the life expectancy of CF patients was much lower then. Oh and he could easily have a port under that gown, some people have them placed just under their breast. Though he shouldn’t have been in a shared room and they should be wearing gloves/mask/gown.

i've been watching your videos for about 2 months now since i found your channel. i totally feel you on the misrepresentation of cfers in most tv shows, movies etc. i was with my late husband for over 10 years, married for almost 5 years until his passing in may of 2008. and none of what they're portraying here is true to what a cfer actually goes thru, the types of treatments they would actually recieve or anything of that nature. it literally makes me cringe everytime i see anything like this. most don't even show what it's truly like for those of us that are caregivers for cfers either.

They removed my daughter's pancreas and it was a HUGE plan that took a while to come up with. They can't remove a person's pancreas without transplanting the islet cells that produce insulin, they had two operating rooms and removed her bad pancreas and dissolved it in some kind of acid to isolate her islet cells and that took place in a second operating room. It was very technical and needed it's own team of surgeons. They put her islet cells in her liver and she was on life support for 5 weeks and there was so much swelling and internal bleeding that they couldn't close her huge incision that started in the middle of her sternum and stopped at her pubic bone. They had to do several other operations to stop internal bleeding and deal with complications. She was so close to death and of course we were there!!! But she was only 4. She had been very sick on TPN with a central line for 2 years. She has since had a pancreas and small bowel transplant and has an NG tube and a GJ tube and does not eat anything by mouth. She's 14 now and doing well but Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome has damaged her in ways I couldn't have ever imagined! I also have it but wasn't diagnosed until after she was born. It is a defective collagen disorder, genetic mutation. 50/50 shot I'd pass it to my kids, I have 2 daughters and one is extremely sick, and one is much less affected but is also positive for EDS. It's a real bitch. So yeah, that's my two cents on the pancreas part. And they would definitely have had him call him parents. Most people with a chronic illness have Advance Directives with a beneficiary who makes decisions for us if we can't. The surgeon who removed my daughter's pancreas said it was the most scarred pancreas he'd ever seen in a person that wasn't dead from many years of pancreatic illness. And yes, she was 4. She had chronic constant pancreatitis even while she was in the womb all the way up until they took it out, so it looked awful. Like shoe leather. Poor kid.

I watch this show my sister loves it so I watch it all the time it's been on for many many years actually it's one of the longest running shows have all the time but it is like about the doctors and their dramas and what they go through and their dilemmas and their things with people and their patients and stuff between themselves but is definitely a tearjerker even if they don't get some of the medical stuff right you watch the show watch some episodes and you're guaranteed to cry for sure so they definitely have that drama aspect along with the inevitability of death or even somebody coming in for something as minor as a headache and ending up passing away so it is a show that gets you right in the feelings but as far as medically correct I don't know I don't think so

So my heart goes out to you. But I'm glad you got diagnosed and know what's wrong. It sucks when you're in the dark and super sick and don't know why.

And realising I now have a "celebrity" youtube crush on the girl on the channel "life with stripes". #SickKidsSquad "It sucks when you're in the dark and super sick " The thing is, i was never really a "sick" kid, i was always vaccinated etc. Even though i have the standard F508 mutation homozygous( most common one) I was always super active with martial arts 3x a week and running/ jogging on the off days too. Only until i got a mycobacterium aivum complex infection 4 months before my birthday, did they start to suspect something. Since mycobacterium only affects people with cf or aids(and some other immuno-deficiencies). The entire time growing up doctors assumed asthma since i am not of Caucasian decent. (im indian though was raised in the UK, dots not feathers :P) Since CF really only affects people with some eastern European ancestry, most never thought to suspect that and since i was mostly well, i cant really blame them. Anyway, after i was diagnosed, the doctor made a little joke saying that my case goes to show that exercise and a healthy diet is better than antibiotics when it comes to keeping us well. One of the strange things i sometimes think about is if i was diagnosed as a kid, how my personality would have been affected. Watching these youtube channels on how people they grew up knowing they have CF is interesting on their outlook on life. Its one of those things where i realise that i dont know if I could handle having friends with CF die before me and attending their funerals. Or if i could, i would have turned out very callous and cynical.

@@MrRishik123 yup, the girl who does "life with stripes" (because people like me and her with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome are called Zebras which is a story in itself) she's really sick. I feel awful for her. I had to deal with my daughter being even sicker than her at a younger age which was just horrific especially since I passed it down to her before I was properly diagnosed. The "life with stripes" girl is being worked up for a small bowel transplant which is horrible and very last resort. As I mentioned, my daughter had that transplant and was only 4 and has done so-so with it but is now 14 and having kidney failure and has a lot of issues due to faulty collagen and is going downhill. It really sucks to be the parent watching your child suffer like that. I hate to say it, but had I known I had such an awful disorder that was a 50/50 chance I'd give it to my kids, I wouldn't have had my two girls. I'm so glad they're here, but I'm guilt ridden and angry that my condition is so misdiagnosed and misunderstood and I wasn't diagnosed until much later. I was 35 when I was finally diagnosed after several "juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis" operations when they realized I wasn't healing well and have been having a ton of complications instead of staying stable or doing better. Being sick sucks and I'm sorry you're dealing with your CF and stuff. I hope you are staying strong. I've seen your name online somewhere else so it's nice to kinda meet you or talk to you. Like Morgan said, us chronically ill people need to rally around each other and be there for one another, so thanks for commenting. I think you should tell your online Zebra crush that you have a crush on her. We don't have a lot of that, or maybe people who do these videos do, I don't know. But we tend to be very isolated, so I'm sure she'd like that. Go for it. She's a doll. But she's very sick and people with small bowel transplants at her age sadly don't do very well and usually pass away, which you said would just be awful to watch. Of course that's horrible. So I'm sure she'd be happy to know that you have a crush on her and be very flattered. She's a doll. I approve. 😉

I made a mistake!!! The "life with stripes" girl isn't the girl I thought! I'm sorry for the mistake!! The girl who I thought you were talking about who is getting the transplant is "hospital princess" and they both have EDS and are super sick and both very cute girls. Hence my mistake. So I apologise for moving them up!! Sorry girls!!

really hate watching a movie/tv show where a very sick patients look like normal people especially when it’s noticeable women having make up on on a death bed and man looking straight from a men’s health cover like cmon

I think if youd wanna show people what cf is actually like you should maybe react to the final scenes of Bob Flanagans Sick. You know, the part where hes actually being filmed on his last few minutes. I dont actually suggest you do this for various reasons. I dont need to tell you why you're smart enough to know and if you've seen it for yourself youd know. Its not a documentary for the faint of heart for a multitude of reasons and it is quite controversial. But my point being besides actually seeing it for myself with my own eyes this is the most raw, real portrayal of what this disease does to you. It's scary, its heartbreaking and its REAL. No show, movie or story told media could match the raw realism of this fucked up shit disease that this documentary captures. Sorry for the morbid comment but if you want realism this is my suggestion

But reacting to a real person with CF when I'm reacting to show inaccuracies would kinda be defeating the point of reacting. And if they wanna know what CF is actually like, just watch my videos. haha.

Skyler Phoenix I’m trying to figure out how to do Bates. Because it has so many episodes featuring that character it’ll be tough. May have to have people do some digging for me to pick the very CF heavy episodes or scenes they’d like me to react to and I’ll cut them into one video.

See and that's why she worked on him so hard trying to keep doing the CPR because she told him basically that he'd be okay and everything and when he asks her to call his parents that he you know felt like it was time for them to call the parents she pretty much told him like I don't know I wasn't really paying attention to what she was saying I was trying to like watch it like you wear for medical stuff but she kind of tells him like I know you're going to be fine and doesn't do it and then he dies on the table and she don't want to give up because she told him he was going to be okay and didn't call his parents the shore this show is more about the drama with the doctors and what they go through and their life's and then being Dr but it does have obviously it's Medical part bases

Yeah these episodes are very traumatized lessen the full full factual Medical part a lot of drama in it and like sadness right off the bat he went in there like he was saying he looked healthy and everything like he didn't even have CF but to make it more dramatize he's going to deteriorate very quickly now that he's in there and she probably will pass I'm writing this before I started from the point where you say that he is probably going to pass away

Yea this show is good but the rush through stuff give basic info to try and make you in the simplest ways know what's wrong with out information about what the ailments actually is in an informative way they kind of say oh he has this and then it quickly jumps to this is dropping and this is happening and blah blah blah and then it's like we got to go in and we got to do surgery and it's like some miraculous surgery and they magically save them the person just passed away I like Grey's Anatomy don't get me wrong I watch it it will bring you to tears some episodes but it is very much a TV show for the drama just so happening to deal with medical situations
