    Port surgery wasn't that painful for me. But I got used to it young. First port at 3 years old. Now on my 4th port.

    As a nurse, you really shouldn't set the IV pump yourself. I know you've been hospitalized many times and know the deal, but if something goes wrong it's on the nurses license since they were the last ones to touch/program the pump. Unless you're super upfront and honest if things go bad, the nurses are always the ones to get in trouble first.

    Ive been in the hospital only 2 times in my life besides being born .. First time i was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes , i was in there for a week learning how to give myself needles , i was diagnosed 1 week before my 9th birthday , i have to give myself needles 3 times a day and prick my fingers at least 6 times a day to check my blood sugar ... The second time i was in the hospital i had the flu and a bad fever and being diabetic my immune system is weaker so i had to stay in the hospital for only 2 days that time

    I didn't actually know I could get a port replacement. Whenever my team talk about removing my port I get scared about what happens if I do get ill and don't have my port and I'm always petrified of having lines through my arms again like when I was little but I didn't even know I could get a replacement if I actually needed.

    I begged my doctors for a port when I did a year of chemo every few days and it's 7 hours long but my veins suck! If they couldn't get a vein I'd lose my chair and it was aggravating. I hate piccs and every time I'm in the e.r I get an e.j (neck iv) shit sucks man

    I had to have an antibiotic and it was a Friday my doctor forgot to call my pharmacy for my antibiotic. So I had to look through the phone book and find him. Then I got my antibiotic. Maybe your nurses are at the cafeteria, Or out having a cigarette.

    Why couldn't you get it put in your arm? Mine was in my arm and it wasn't that painful at all. A lot easier to bump on stuff and that hurt but nothing about the installment hurt me at all and I thought it would. On a count of they were putting a foreign object in me. Hurt more than nothing but I wouldn't say it was pain more stinging at most.

    Im down the track watching-but hoping ur ur port is not giving u issues!! Sorting ur pump for 1st time to finish the vanc?!?!-lol!! Def. not 250ml left, so it probably screamed @ u when it got air in the line-damn IV pumps!! They drive me nuts!! I made it a mission to work them out ASAP-especially how to make them quiet! I’ve gone home after a long admission before hearing the $&@? things in my sleep!!

    Emma Waze it is for patients who need a lot of IVs and the veins are not having it anymore. It is a small reservoir under the skin with a rubber membrane that has a line leading into a large vein close to the heart. It can be accessed with a special needle to give fluids or meds.

    Could soemone explain what a port does?

  • @mariawolterstorff145

    @mariawolterstorff145

    5 жыл бұрын

    Andrea 777 It’s a more permanent solution for people who frequently need IV medications. The actual port sits just under the skin, but attached is a tube that runs through a vein and directly into or above the heart. It’s a good option for people who have been in hospitals so much that getting traditional IV access is difficult. They can deliver medications and fluids directly into the port and it can be de-accessed in between treatments.

    I’ve had a port in my chest, then my dominant arm, then back in my chest and without a doubt the arm port placement was the worst to recover from. I couldn’t use my arm for over a month and it didn’t go back to full capacity for probably 3 months
