Cygnus... Vismund Cygnus-The Mars Volta

Another great mars volta song. this song is the 1st track of their cd "Frances the Mute." Somewhat of an uplifting and motivating piece of music. Original as always. I'll add another song eventually.

For 6 years, this song has been my favourite song I have ever heard. Start to finish, I haven't heard a song just as perfect in all aspects of music: Technicality, composition technique, mixing, meaning in lyrics and so much more... and I still have no idea what it's really about and that is why I find it so beautiful. It's a continually changing and moving... everything.
One of the best bands to rock the earth. Rest in peace ..

Aleks Podraza I know!
The drumming on this track is just spectacular
Jon Theodore is drumming on this track, as well as on the rest of Frances The Mute. Pridgen didn't come on board until Bedlam In Goliath. :P

If I had to pick my favorite song ever, it'd most likely be this one. This song has hundreds of plays, and that's just on iTunes. Definitely got me out of some hard times (and into some as well) I remember around the 7 minute mark when Cedric shouts "OOH YEAH", I got a shiver that I don't remember getting from a song in quite some time.
this song along with the rest of francis the mute is a modern masterpiece. amazing music right here. this is the real shit right here.

Crazy awesome, epic, intricate, influential, unique
If you had been wondering this became my unquestionably favourite album of all time. Masterpiece.
8:43 I'm completely sober now, but. At this moment I realise I'm totallly drugged. By music. I'm not here, I'm somewhere else... Undescribable beauty.

The meaning of this song and the album is just amazing
Favorite song of all times!
One of the greatest modern compositions ever recorded.
Worst thing they ever did was kick out John Theodore. Madman behind the kit.

I feel like Pridgen did a pretty damn good job replacing him. The drumming on Bedlam was some of the best ever.

eh...i dunno about that one...when i ask myself "what happened to the mars volta after Bedlam in Goliath?" the conclusion "ITS BECAUSE OF THE DRUMS" is never reached lolol far worse things were done than finding a more fitting drummer

so Omar was having panic attacks cause he just broke up ATDI so the dude was super OCD on trying to make sure he was cutting the freshest gems. Jon (he is a king) didn't feel they needed to practice as much as they did, and I get that. As a drummer you get worked out the fastest, and if they are jamn 8 hours a day almost all week, that shit is taxing. So yeah I mean they know he was awesome, but Omar was listening to his ego during this period. Eh, there is no real way to cut this clearly.
this album wrecked havoc on my playlists with the titling. Still not over it.
Eargasmic! This is the opening of what I consider the best album of the decade and definitely one of the best ever made
My favorite song of theirs so far. Beautiful transitions.
7:00 - 8:00 makes me melt every time. Vocal greatness.
they were very good. i was puking while listening to this.
I swear the start of this song is intentionally quiet to fool people into turning up their stereos for the rest of the amazing record. Well played, boys. Well played......

this is an song out of this world.. mars volta
TOTALLY agree with you on that one. I've heard every album all the way through multiple times and no matter how many times I do. Whenever I finish it I say "why can't anyone else do this more often!?" it's crazy. True musicians
There will never be enough Mars Volta in this world..
I love their entire discography. This is one of those bands that you should be able to and find at least one or two songs from them you like no matter what kind of music you usually listen to. The people who don't like them are people who've never taken the time to actually listen and get involved with the music and think of what it means to them. These guys have changed my life with one song. These guys have done more for me with their music than my parents have done in all my life.
songs incredible, especially when the ambience fades out into the quiet guitar, genius.
The transition with the extra layer of guitars around 6:58 is absolutely gorgeous. That section that follows might be the most powerful and moving melody/lyric combination on the record.
The drums from 8:45 to 9:30 is so amazing I nearly punched my cat.

best volta song for sure.
man ive listened to most of mars volta & there catalogue of songs is truly epic, & there creativity is of such originality that im convinced they are actually from a paralell dimension
The ocean floor is hidden from your viewing lens A depth perception languished in the night All my life I've been sewing the wounds But the seeds sprout a lachrymal cloud Those lyrics are so awesome. I love how the album ends with them too.
This song is amazing, you have to listen to all of it to understand the depth and beauty that The Mars Volta have created. The end gives me chills everytime.
i haven't listened to this song for years but it is still incredible.
I have loved this band since I first heard them. It just happened to be that this was the first song of theirs I had ever heard. What an introduction to a band.
this is my favorite mars volta song when cedric says "feed us the womb" i get chills. 2:24-2:35
this is in my onpinion one of their best songs
This is the very first TMV song I heard. One confused teenager became a little more confused that night I tell you. Beautiful!
picture at 6:55 reminds me of me and will jamming out in his parents house when we were like 16 ah those were the days, smoking weed, playing guitar, hanging with the chicks, and jamming for hours with my buddies.....lol i miss those days
That was worth my while.
It's been too long since I heard this, that pattern starting at 4:20 is so good! 6/4 + 4/4 + 9/8 :D
Pridgen didn't drum on this song (or album). It is Jon Theodore drumming. I agree though, the drumming is outstanding.
I cannot stop listening to this
I get to see them sunday!!!
my favorite
My eardrums die a worthwhile death everytime I crank up the volume for this song.
the best song on the best ever album of the best ever band. nuff said
I didn't even know that, how the hell could someone be able to count like that! One of the reasons why I love TMV
This song got me hooked to Mars Volta
Wow i just kept turning the volume up! this is so epic! love TMV
This song gets me pumped before every time I go into a fight. Fuckin love these guys.
The drumming on this track is just perfect
the mars volta is so fucking unique... so hard to listen to them sometimes but something always makes me come back to try listening again.Once you get used to them you realise that those guys are pretty fucking good
Yep...still love it
the jam in the middle of this track is incredible
always puts things in perspective for me
There Acoustics range is phenomenal.
I think this is the best one, at least of this album. I've never saw anyone do some kind of this 'art'. it's so versatle and perfectly made. These guys really know how to do music
Agreed. I saw them in Houston.
It's good to see someone carrying the torch that our psychedelic predecessors left burning for us.
This band is way ahead from our generation, as Piero Scaruffi stated on his Frances the Mute review "They are the only band of this decade that is truly unique and musically transgressive"
this is one of their best its so well made and i love this album also the mars volta
The first time i heard this song I got my head blown off... what an exquisite breakdown is the one in the end of sarcophagi...
i love this band !
First time I listened to this band I didn't listen to them a second time for like 6 months because I almost blew my eardrums listening to it on headphones.
Omar writes all of the instrumental parts (most of the time) and Cedric writes the lyrics (most of the time)
Grandísimos!!
The meaning is only known to them and the purpose is to find your own meaning to the song. thats the beauty of lyrics
Listening to this the day they broke up. Im going to miss them. :,)
8:47 is the absolute best part of the song!!! that whole part the drums and bass just flow so well...
@D4MVP that was beautiful man, glad to see that someone out there understands :]
That... everything.
amazing!
DEAR GOD
oh my god that was amazing....
Beautacious song. I remember seeing the Volta on tour with System in 2004 at the ACC. At the time I had no idea who TMV was and was mainly concerned with seeing my then-favourite band, SOAD. They leapt up on stage in a ragtag group of 9 and jammed their hour away. They would then become my favourite existing band. My band's work is inspired by these guys heavily as well as Frank Zappa and Tera Melos. Check us: "matter of taste jam :)--"

I love this song. I love this band. I was completely disgusted with modern music before I found the Mars Volta.

I love the second half to this song.. 5/4, 6/8, 4/4.. but wow!
their best song, i agree
This is actually beautiful.
perfect...
this is probably my favorite Mars Volta song
started punching a cone at the beginning of this song, I wish I didn't turn the volume up SO high beforehand.
i totally agree
man this is fucking crazy but in a good way. today i listened to my first mars volta song cassandra gemini, all 32 minutes were amazing. i may be a new fan. i never heard anything this technical, creative, energetic, or complex from other progressive bands i listen to.
That solo
god, I LOVE the drums on this song
7:37 What being high feels like *soaring at the speed of light* lolz
WOOOW (good) modern progressive rock
Other Perfect song from TMV
