Cutting my own gemstone design in Blue Topaz

Ойын-сауық

I go through the process of cutting a blue topaz using a design that I created myself. I based my design to resemble Link's blue shield from the Legend of Zelda games. Some of the facets on the crown of my shield design create the Triforce. I used GemCad to create my design.

My brother what would you do if the precious stone has a defect or it broke? If that broke on me I dont know what I would do. Probably have an aneurism+heart attack and then find the person that sold it to me and send him to jesus.

I would likely accept a return on a stone that broke due to defect or fracture plane in the stone. I haven't had anyone tell me that they have broken one of my stones yet.@@Nw-zh1uq

@@MattsCornerofGemCutting Sorry I was not clear enough. I meant what would you do if the uncut stone the one you bought broke while you where trying to refine it. Not the ones you already refined.

@@Nw-zh1uq I try to purchase most of my rough in person to evaluate it myself and avoid buying rough that I think will fall apart. Sometimes I have to change up the cut mid cut if something happens. Recently I was cutting a sapphire in a hexagon cut that had a bad fractural flaw near one of the points that I worried would cause the point to break off easily. I had cut in some of the pavilion facets and the girdle at that point. I stopped and redesigned the cut to cut out that point and the opposite one. The finished cut was a slightly cushioned rectangle instead. Let's say I was cutting this design in the topaz and I dropped it while cutting it and and one of the sharp tips broke off. I would have to change the design into a cut cornered triangle to accommodate for the breakage. If it happened to break in half, I would determine if the pieces were big enough to be cut into individual stones. If not, I would set them aside and move on with a different stone and not think too much about it. Most of the time, a stone can still be salvaged from a break during the cut. I really don't have much issue with stones unless they already had some bad fractures in the rough before cutting.

@@MattsCornerofGemCutting That is very good to hear. The fact that they are salvagable most of the time is great. Thank you for the sincere answer and the valuable information. May you keep prospering both in wealth and in health.

To find your own Cut's, very artistic and exiting indeed! Truly, I find that like the work of a sculptor! And Oh my Gosh, what a Beauty you created here! Hypnotizing cut! Fascinating to me is the fact that this stone (I might be wrong and probably am), has 10 facets on top, a turtle (also faceted?) but the 'Sparkleresult' is like it would have hundreds of facets. I live in Quebec, but next summer will visit my son in Utah SLC, and I would love to bring you 2 Stones to be recut. A Golden coloured Topaz who shows signs of being worn, and another Stone I do not know what it is, only that it belonged to my Grandfather and has white, red and green colors opposite one of another (sorry it's a bit difficult to describe). Thank you so much for all your Videos!
