    @@jamesmckenzie3532 It is not about one being used but about the placement, which is highly questionable at best. I think, at 4:47 you can see it most prominently, the placement is simply wrong. As side notes, in medicine you always need an indication for any procedure and a unnessesarily placed C-collar wastes time, is discomfortable for the patient, complicates airway access and increases intercerebral pressure by externally pressing on the jugular veins, not something you want with patients that could have a traumatic brain injury. Also, this type of cervical collar is a single-use product.

    @Nicky L Actually believe it or not it's the other way around. In part because of funding for resaerch, clinical development and training Australia has been a global leader for decades. In saying that with having money thrown into ambulance services here, we can send people to the UK, see what great things they're doing and see how we can adapt for Australia. The problem with the US is lack of funding. While you might have world class paramedics in LA, a struggling Fire/EMS squad in the backwoods of some rural county hasn't got the money for ongoing training and the latest and greatest equipment.

    Australian air ambo was a necessity probably long before UK just based on how spread out the population is. Air travel is much quicker than road travel, and if someone gets into real trouble in the middle of nowhere a 30min chopper is a much better option than a 6hr car

  • @coover65

    @coover65

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@gingercube688 So true. Our Flying Doctors (RFDS) started in 1928, and we had air ambulances owned and operated by district ambulance brigades since about WW2. Now we have rescue and air ambulance helicopters at our disposal, as well as jet and turboprop aircraft. The latter are often used to transfer patients from small towns to major hospitals that are 900km/600 miles away yet still in the same state. I once did relief work as a paramedic in a small outback town. On one job without giving it enough thought asked for a chopper to assist with transport. I got a phone call from operations saying that our location was out of range of a chopper. A lot of outback roads are just rocky or dirt tracks that you can't drive too fast on, making response times blow out to hours.
