I've spoken to 3 people been given ket 2 say they remember it just didn't feel pain and was unable to move like you may have experienced in a nightmare maybe. Doesn't sound as strong as they say when the guys screaming in pain

Think of something nice “my compensation” that’s a mood

I had a hip replacement mid-December and fell three weeks later. Landed on my knee on that side and broke my femur and totally jacked up the replacement. The EMTs gave me ketamine and I honestly thought I had died; the disassociation is terrifying. Still felt the pain and the movement of the ambulance and could hear everything and respond, but I wasn't in my body - I was floating in the cosmos. It was terrifying. If any EMTs are reading this, please talk to your patients and let them know they're safe and what is happening. That would have been so helpful.

@@yeahnahyeah3883 They both have negative side effects besides being painkillers. Ketamine can cause dissociation, numbness & withdrawal. Morphine can cause disphoria & delusions. So they're similar there.

Reminds me of when my mom got into an accident. The manager was sitting in front and got all the damage from the impact and shattered his hips. For days he wasn't able to sleep straight and is on the wheelchair everytime. It was quite ominous..because in that certain company. Just within a month accidents started to happen. One employee broke her knees, a couple got into a motorbike accident, and five passengers including my mom got into a car accident. Just glad nobody died. One lawyer almost got thrown out from the mid center of the car.

I sounded a lot like Andy when the ambulance crew took me down a flight of stairs with a broken Femur!

I broke and dislocated my elbow. But I didn’t feel a thing as soon as it happened. Only after I had several surgery’s there was a lot of pain

I’magine if that was the guys plan , he needed some ketamine so he crashed his car lol

And this is why I wear high visibility jacket and trousers everyday on motorbike & i always play a game like everyone is going to kill me. I'm just worried about these new electric vehicles that can't be heard.

My guy broke his leg and got drugs for it, if the world was like that it would be better and the way he said he will give him a strong pain killer but won’t tell him it’s ket

I don't understand why they use ketamine in these types of scenarios. Why not use something like propofol to actually knock him out for a few minutes while they get him on the stretcher and into the ambulance?

It’s because in the event that they need to be operated on, they haven’t already had too high a dosage of the general anesthetic.

Propofol isn't used as a frontline drug by paramedics here in Australia, but from what I've read Propofol isn't effective for burns and causes respiratory depression. It also doesn't last as long as Ketamine, the drug of choice by Aussie paramedics. Here it's used for traumatic pain unresponsive to morphine/fentanyl, burns and as an induction for anaesthesia. A while ago I read about Ketafol being the "Holy Grail". Any EMS agencies using that?

@@coover65 Germany here, some of our docs use keta+fenta . Paramedics can only opt for keta-benzo. Very good experience with the keta+fenta combo.

@@kaiso7322 I would love to read the clinical research from Germany on the effectiveness of keta+fenta. I'm sure I'll find it with some digging. I love Germany; spent three years living there in the late 1970s when I was a teenager, and return whenever possible.

Propofol is an induction agent with no analgesic properties. Moreover, the patient will go apneic if you give too much. Also, it will drop your blood pressure, which is suboptimal in a trauma patient. Femur fracture ~2 liters of blood loss.

Are paramedics over there not allowed to use ketamine? We use that stuff daily.

Paramedics can prescribe ketamine but it’s normally done by first responders. Uk paramedics can give morphine but anything stronger needs to be prescribed by special doctors due to the risks involved with it.

@@kelseyskepper1767 Paramedics don't "prescribe" medication, they administer them. All medications have risks; it comes down to training. Australian paramedics carry and administer ketamine plus some 60 (maybe more) other drugs. Seems like a waste of resources getting a flight doctor despatched to perform a procedure that road paramedics should be trained to do.

I snapped my tibia at work and the ambulance gave me ketamine when they got there. Let’s just say I don’t remember the ambulance ride and I had swore I had died.

This happened to me after my accident but they iv’d me ketamine after I was in the ambulance and told them I was on subxone so they could not give me opioids. Let’s just say I was hallucinating in the hospital until my first surgery lol

Imagine being under buprenorphine treatment and they inject you opiates without asking you if you are under such treatment. Not only you have the pain from the injury to deal with but it also give you withdrawing syndrome. What a fcking nightmare...

Air ambulances are charities so they're run on donations, fund raisers and sponsorships.

That was fucking shocking treatment. Jesus, if you're going to give him ketamine for a femur, just do it properly and procedurally sedate him for it. 20mg is nothing for a guy who's probably about 95kg.

Yes, it is legal but propofol is more commonly used in the U.S. for an anesthetic. Ketamine has been known to cause hallucinations and agitation in some people.

Same thing happend to me but I ended up just screaming at the medics “ITS NOT WORKING!” Cos they was tryna give me morphine with is the most useless drug ever for this type of pain. It didn’t help one bit, Then they decided to give me ket in the ambulance after they already pulled my leg straight as I was screaming in agony. (I too had a broken femur)
