0:05 The technician said all along the customer just needed a new key. Now it cost them over $1200 and all that damage to the interior. He's unsure if the customer actually did this or another shop.
0:32 The customer replaced the brakes when all this time the trailing arms and mounts were rusted through. The vehicle could be repaired but it would be very expensive/time-consuming.
0:47 Hopefully they made it home safe to do the repairs!
1:02 No extra info.
1:11 Why you should get a vehicle inspected before purchasing.
1:22 A brake line was leaking.
1:34 2017 Lincoln MKZ
1:42 As mentioned, the vehicle needed to see the driver's seat belt buckled so the transmission could be taken out of park.
1:53 Customer paid to get a brand new engine installed (they said it was $7500 with parts and labour).
2:06 The technician said this is not the first time this has happened.
2:14 Ford Powerstroke with two air filters, and one that is brand new and not used. Also had wire nuts used for electrical and some reason a nasal aspirator (nose sucker) installed.
2:26 The vehicle was an Audi.
2:34 The Timing belt was good. The tire was replaced.
2:43 The engine was put back together and the socket was removed from the spark plug hole. Then the technician replaced the spark plugs.
2:56 Does anybody want to guess how many pumpkins were in the back of this customer's Jeep Renegade?
3:03 Outro. Thanks for watching!

The customer had told the tech. how many were in the back. EDIT - @Spaz12IsHip guessed it correctly at 115 pumpkins! T-shirt has been sent to him :D Thanks guys! Those Audi (and VW and Porsche) infotainment systems come with a built-in HDD to store maps, your contacts, and your music.* But they figured you might want to add more music without having to load it onto the HDD (a not-so-straight forward procedure), so added a SD card slot. But then they figured someone else might not like you music, so added a second SD card slot for their music. It's a phenomenal amount of thought put into what the customer would need. But then they didn't add a way to create playlists. You need to create any playlists before you transfer your music to the HDD or insert the SD card. I don't know how such foresight by the designers got paired with such boneheadedness. * Technically you can add movies too, and they'll play on the infotainment screen. But for safety reasons that feature is available only when the car is stationary.

@@solandri69 I've experienced a few VW in-car entertainment systems that are garbage. For example, 2014 Passat with Bluetooth, which occasionally likes to stutter then disconnect for no reason. But instead of staying on Bluetooth but silent/disconnected, it "helpfully" switches back to the radio - at twice the volume of the Bluetooth. Which is very helpful when pulling up outside someone's house in a quiet residential area at 1am. For that and several other reasons, I ended up using the 3.5mm aux input instead, which works perfectly.

The solution is to learn about your car, though I think the basics about how cars work, how insurance works and basic maintenance should all be part of the driving licence theory because it affects safety on the road too. And it would make it less easy to scam people/ there would be less uncertanty so people would get repairs more, and people would know how much a car costs to maintain and if they can afford it before buying.

In the late 1980s, the government mandated supplemental restraint systems (SRS) - something that would automatically protect occupants in the event of a collision. This was supposed to mean airbags, but airbags back then cost about $1500 apiece. So a lot of automakers opted for seat belts which were permanently clipped in. The other end of the belt was attached to a runner on the top of the door frame. When you opened the door, the runner would travel forward pulling the seat belt out of the way, allowing you to get in the car. When you closed the door, the runner would travel back placing the seat belt against your chest. (The lap belt was still manual.) Very gimmicky, and very annoying. They were phased out as airbags came down in price.

The amount of vehicles destroyed by rust until they are very dangerous is a very compelling argument in favor of mandatory yearly vehicle inspections. That's terrifying to me.

I would give such a stupid car back to the dealer or permanently connect the wires in the buckle so that the car thinks, the seatbelt is always on. Can't believe freaking vehicles are taking away more and more decisions from the driver. I mean sure, with so many unbelievably stupid people out there, it's good to take away some decisions from them. But when it's only about yourself and not the safety of others, that should remain your decision.

Can someone list the cars which won't let you take the car out of Park without the seatbelt fastened? I want to make sure I *NEVER* buy or rent one of these. Also, I'm surprised how many people refuse repairs and drive completely unsafe cars away from the shop.

@tarille1043 Exactly. Had a dinger in my truck that would go off if i wasn't wearing a seat belt, which i discovered was located in my radio. The radio only had AM/FM and didn't have so much as a cassette player, and the dinger went away when i installed a custom radio. I live in a small town with a population under 800, and the average speed is 15 to 25 mph, so i don't typically wear one unless i am going out of town where the speed limit is 70mph which seems more like a suggested speed to the majority.

That would be a real pain in the tail if you were backing a trailer somewhere complicated. Or for that matter you need to stop, open a gate drive through, the stop and close the gate.

Sounds great until the sensor manages to fail, then the car is bricked and you gotta tow it. I much prefer just having the constant beeping, cause then at least you can drive the car still.

every time I watch this I get more and more scared. If we can regulate backup cameras and Blindspot monitors, why can’t there be mandatory annual safety inspections?

  • @kraut4676

In Germany and in other countries there are annual safety inspections mandatory. In case there is any small problem you are not allowed to drive the car any longer and in Germany you have to come one more time and pay again after the car has been repaired in a shop. I live in Asia and have to do the inspection every year. There is no rust underneath my 60 year old Jeep. And I am happy not to have all these electronic things which are not necessary anyhow.

Nah, there's an actual reason, the owner is smarter than the tech. The factory airbox and battery holder is integrated: the air is pulled around the battery to keep it cool. You need a new battery tray if you remove the factory airbox. There's an official Ford part for it, which is used when you convert to the AIS intake.
