Like your DIY approach. I realize this is 4 years late, but have you thought of a forward/reverse slider to move it away when you're paddling, and slide it towards you when you're shooting. I'm about to do something similar and I would suggest looking to the woodworking jig/tools for that sliding option. Hope you're getting the shots.

That's a cool rig. I'm only 5' 4" (1.6 m) tall so I've got a short reach. I'm thinking I'd have to mount a stiff pivoting arm hinged where you've placed your camera mount. The arm would swivel out toward's me about .4 m - .5 m or so and lock in place... thus, I wouldn't have to lean forward to use my camera and I can stow the arm out of the way to exit or board the kayak. I've got an old Yukon kayak Im about ready to modify.

I'm getting a kayak soon for fishing but I also happen to have a canon t7i rebel, this video helped me expand on an already good idea!

This is brilliant! I've been looking for a kayak for photography and I've been leaning towards a fishing kayak. They look more comfortable and more importantly, seem to be much more stable. Like you, I thought using a tripod seemed kind of risky. I love this setup you've built. The only thing I think could be improved would be some way to make it less permanent on the kayak. Somehow make it where it could come out easily. I know these fishing kayaks have all kinds of attachments for putting accessories on. Maybe there is something that could be done with yours as well. I'm very impressed and watching this video, I've probably just increased my desire to purchase a fishing kayak in the near future. Thanks!

Hi Jeff. Thank you so much for the comment, yes fishing kayaks are the most stable😊 I chose to mount some of the equipment permanently because it reduced vibrations, I can easily disassemble everything if I need to mount other equipment😉

With equipment far more worth than the Kayak, I would build some sidefloats or pontoons to stabilize the rig! ;)

Hi Stig. Great setup but, surely when you spin the Wimberly from side to side & even up & down it will be difficult for you to comfortably use the viewfinder. For example, if you spin the Wimberly to the far left you’ll have to position your body half out of the boat to see through the viewfinder? Pangolin Safaris have the perfect arm that they use on their safari boats that would solve your problem. They have a youtube channel that may be worth a look to see if you could copy something like they use which would solve your problem. Take care & stay safe. Mark🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿
