On this channel we like to do a lot of dogfighting most videos are some sort of dogfight between 2 different aircraft as we explore their different capabilities. From time to time I like to dabble in Virtual Reality, I think VR is a great new technology and I love to show that stuff off for the channel from time to time.
If you prefer more up close and personal dogfights consider the IL-2 Sturmovik: Great Battle series and experience intense WWII aerial combat over famous battlefields such as Stalingrad, Moscow, Rhineland and Normandy. Fight in and against Russian, American, German, British warbirds such as the P-51 Mustang, P-47 Thunderbolt, Bf-109, FW-190, Spitfire, Hurricane and rugged IL-2 Sturmovik attack plane. You can also fly legendary SPADS, Fokkers and Camels in WWI dogfights over the trenches of WWI and discover your inner Red Baron! And all of this can be experienced in jaw dropping virtual reality!
If you enjoy war thunder or Microsoft flight simulator 2020, consider getting yourself into Digital Combat Simulator by Eagle Dynamics, the Combat side of Aviation with the BVR and Dogfights really provides a different and interesting perspective on aviation. You can fly all kinds of combat aircraft including the F-16, F-15, F-14, JF-17, Su-27, Mig-29, Mirage and the F-18 Hornet along with many other aircraft and helicopters like the Ka-50 and Mi-8.

I'm loving the IL-2 content recently. P-40 is an awesome plane. Have you thought about making a video on the LaGG-3? The LaGG-3 is underpowered and over weight like the P-40, limiting it's strengths and making it one of the lower performance aircraft. However the LaGG-3 has some very enjoyable handling characteristics. It's easy to handle in most situations, but it loosed energy quickly if you try to pull too hard too often, one it looses energy it is hard to regain it in combat. The climb rate is just below average. The LaGG-3's one big advantage against a 109 is the roll rate. the LaGG-3 has a good roll rate while the 109 has an abysmal roll rate. The 109 will out climb you and can generate energy much faster, hiding some pilot errors. You can't make energy mistakes in a LaGG-3 or you will be punished hard. For air to air, I suggest the 20mm canon, and for air to ground the 23mm or 37mm can be chosen. However, loading a 37mm full of HE and taking it against some He111s can be a lot of fun. bring some rockets too, just for good measure. (Winking Face Emoji)

P-40 can do anything from 25,000 to 29,000 feet as the service ceiling depending on the subvariant. Only had a single supercharger. The Soviets loved them because the Germans flew low in the East.

....On April 26, 1939, Curtiss was awarded a contract for 524 P-40s - once again, the largest order for fighter planes placed by the Army since 1918. The P-40 prototype was armed with one .50- and one .30-caliber machine gun - the standard USAAC fighter armament during the 1930s - but the production model was armed with two .50-caliber machine guns not 6 .50 caliber....Thanks👍

It may be underpowered at higher altitude, but the P40 was surprisingly maneuverable. Jeff Ethell (RIP) admitted to accidentally banging his head of the side of the canopy when he was caught off guard by the snappy roll rate. He flew many warbirds and even a few late soviet era jets. Sadly, the P38 curse took him before his time.

There isn't. IL-2 aircrafts are mainly focused on Germans and Soviets, with a dozen iconic Allied aircraft DLCs serving as icing on the cake. They do want to release more Allied stuff and eventually a Pacific Theater, but things are moving at snail's pace. A Japanese B5N Kate or TBF would have been awesome. Torpedo bombers to me always feel like the most dangerous and shittiest job of all ww2 aviators.

My absolute favourite WW2 aircraft. Also, very sadly under-appreciated considering how well it did and how many we produced/used to keep enemies at bay until we could get into proper production of more modern aircraft. A true, genuine workhorse. Reliable, easy to fly, competent...just outclassed by the time of WW2 really.

GS, I notice after your WW1 flying, that you are starting to make sure you get very close before opening fire with machine guns playing WW2 battles. This works well - up until things like enemy wings, wheels, cockpit canopies and bailing out pilots start hitting your aircraft. Deflection shooting, if you are going to get that close, could be a life saver! With the P-40, the bloke who wrote the book on how to effectively use it was a chap called Claire Chennault, of American Volunteer Group / Flying Tigers fame. He taught his pilots to energy fight the Japanese in the P-40B, / Tomahawk IIIB, then later P-40E's, against much bigger opposing numbers, pretty effectively. Apparently the Shark mouth logo was copied by RAF Squadron 112, ( which was largely staffed by Polish, Canadian, Aussie and Kiwi pilots) from a Luftwaffe heavy fighter group flying Me-110's in Crete, Zerstörergeschwader 76. When the AVG saw a photo of an RAF 112 squadron Tomahawk aircraft in a newspaper, they adopted the design as well - and the rest is history! :-D

The sad thing is pilots bailing out too late I'm sure happens quite frequently in WW2 and in other wars. There was an episode in dogfights where a P-51 pilot witnesses a BF 109 pilot bailing out way too low to the ground and sees the German pilot bouncing on the ground it. haunted him forever. Aerial combat is some dangerous shit

As soon as you started to stream Il-2, I put it in my Steam wishlist, and boom, a sale. So far I picked up Stalingrad, and coincidently the P-40. Im looking to pick up Boutenplatte, and Flying circus because your WWI videos looked like so much fun. I'm curious what is the idea of the ironsights in the P-40? Is it as cut and dry as its just a backup to the reflective glass? Also I find it much easier to waste 109s in IL-2 than in DCS. In DCS, they're bullet sponges lol. Another great video.

Damnit ED, give us a damn P-40 already. How can you not have one of the most prolific planes in WW2 in the game? This plane fought for so many countries and in EVERY theatre of the war. Not having it is like not even having WW2 planes in a WW2 game. And give us a square wing 109 as well. P-40 is definitely a low level plane. Only has the single stage SC.

Watching your rudder inputs on the rollout after landing, is your sensitivity set very high or something? You also mentioned over rudder'ing while doing those yo-yo's when the 109 reversed his turns. Might be simply a setting to adjust on your hardware/seating position. Great stuff though, your gunnery is getting better every mission!

The Hs-129 is basically a flying tank, kinda like the IL-2. The whole nose is an armored box(Most of the canopy as well.), has air cooled radial engines. It can soak up a lot of damage. On the other hand, it was pretty underpowered and extremely cramped for the pilot. So cramped that several gauges and the gunsight are outside the cockpit, and what gauges are in the cockpit are so low down that they were difficult to see without scrunching down. But it's a neat aircraft that's a lot of fun to fly and ground pound with. Especially since it could carry some seriously nasty firepower.
