On this channel we like to do a lot of dogfighting most videos are some sort of dogfight between 2 different aircraft as we explore their different capabilities. From time to time I like to dabble in Virtual Reality, I think VR is a great new technology and I love to show that stuff off for the channel from time to time.
If you enjoy war thunder or Microsoft flight simulator 2020 or even dogfighting in Battlefield 2042, consider getting yourself into Digital Combat Simulator by Eagle Dynamics, the Combat side of Aviation with the BVR and Dogfights really provides a different and interesting perspective on aviation. You can fly all kinds of combat aircraft including the F-16, F-15, F-14, JF-17, Su-27, Mig-29, Mirage and the F-18 Hornet along with many other aircraft and helicopters like the Ka-50 and Mi-8.

  • @bjrneirikstrkersen1021

    @bjrneirikstrkersen1021

    Жыл бұрын

    Dunno about anyone doing that, but it would be a much harder matchup. IR imaging, colossal advantage in armour and firepower, much better mobility in any scenario. Best bet, I think, would be something with a huge gun with HE shell that can lay in ambush and get one shot in side or rear. Best 'tanks' for this, from the top of my mind, would be either the Sturer Emil or the ISU152. Big guns, huge HE shells, can have a low profile (hull down for the Sturer Emil; its pretty huge otherwise).

  • @bjrneirikstrkersen1021

    @bjrneirikstrkersen1021

    Жыл бұрын

    Aye, aircraft have to be somewhat fragile; other considerations like speed, manouverability, stealth, carrying ordanance etc. trumps making the aircraft impervious to damage, which is likely to be impossible anyhow. I think big WW2 HE shell is the way to go; most modern AT missiles have 5-10kg warheads with advanced penetrating capabilities. The ISU-152s shells, by comparison, are not any form of advanced, but they are HUGE; the HE shells carry almost 30kgs of explosive filler..... I dont care what you're riding, you're gonna feel it! Of course, a frontal shot on any kind of M1 is futile; at best you'll hit the gun and render it inoperable, but thats not a recommended course of action with WW2 sights and accuracy..... But a side or rear shot, engine and tracks can be damaged, and if you can make an M1 a sitting duck, well, both the Emil and the ISU doubles as artillery pieces and can pull back to pummel it with artillery shells until those inside have either fled or died. Funny thing is, one disadvantage the M1 has is that it requires more or less direct line of fire - quite a few WW2 guns, especially the big ones that doubles as artillery pieces, has significant shell drop and can lob shells in ways the M1 just cant.

  • @lattegremo6016

    @@bjrneirikstrkersen1021 - Ukrainians regularly use their tanks in an indirect fire role against Russian army. With the help of UAV for fire correction and custom fire control software they manage to hit the targets at up to 8 km. I am quite sure that M1 could do the same if needed.

    It wouldn't even be closer. Modern tanks armor is way more advanced. They are faster and more maneuverable. But the big differntiation is that they can target better and engage in more environments and distance. The only way a WW2 tank would have a shred of a shot is if they had numbers and an ambush. Lots of people have analyzed this.

    The random rolls you're getting in the turn are accelerated stalls. You can minimize them, and decrease your turn radius by using flaps. The flap extension speed for the first notch is 450 mph IIRC. If you go vertical or you're trying to get some energy back, get rid of them, but otherwise those are invaluable. I'll be honest: I have no idea how you figured out a guns solution on the fly for a F22. It flies faster than anything you'd ordinarily need to lead with those .50 cals, and the .50s need to lead more than the higher velocity 20mm. The fact that you put trigger down for about a second, watched the tracers, and found a guns solution is honesly kind of ridiculously incredible. Even if he lost sight, I imagine a lot of otherwise competent P51 players would have alerted the Raptor pilot with a few misses and caused him to jink.

    I was watching a video of some F-16/F-18 fighter pilots on a panel discussing what it would be like to fight a P 51 and pretty much all of them said they would not wanna try it in a slow fight. Essentially they would just choose to shoot it from beyond line of sight

  • @a64738

    Boom and zoom tactics and the P51 would most likely be toast while the jet can just keep making passes at it using the power and speed to its advantage and shoot it to peace's... And that is without even using the heat seeking missiles.

    @Admiral Kipper modem heat seekers such as the aim 9X douse the seeker with liquid nitrogen (very cold in liquid form), and so any engine heat difference will be easily picked out from the surroundings

    @@thejhonnie piston engined aircraft do have a smaller radar crosssection due to raw size difference and radar boucing off curvatures in the body, although the side of the plane, radiators, and tail is pretty flat for radar returns - radar was used effectivly in WW2 in both the European and the Pacific theater to detect aircraft

    Still cant believe how entertaining this was i thought this will be a silly video of getting insta destroyed. Had no idea about piston engines and turn radius or the logical fact, that missles will not be tracking that good, cause they are designed for afterburners, not a cold tail. Wow awesome video. The warden dude earned my respect and you as well.

    Always remember guys, doesn't matter how old some planes are, a 50 cal is a 50 cal. Cross the nose at your own peril, because a P-51 probably absorbs that kind of damage about as well as any 5th gen jet.

    A very entertaining video. Everyone needs to remember that dogfighting in the jet era is the last resort. We all saw what happened here when missiles come into play, and that is the tactic spot them before they spot you and kill them BVR before they know you are there. Ran out of missiles? Do what the other guy can't- go higher.

    @@GonzoDonzo oh yes indeed, but at least the P-51 managed to gain a fighting chance in a tighter dog fight. If the F-22 was really making a serious attempt to kill the P-51 it would not only do what you said but would probably try to deny the P-51 the merge in the first place. Just sending missiles would be enough for the F-22.

    @@StaleCrony I have to think on this one tjey may have planed it or agreed to some speed format. If you look at the attitude of the f22 it appears as if it is nose up trying to prevent a stall in most of the dogfights. If it were real, hit the ABs and climb and then just dive. But again, I really think they agreed to some condition of fight.

  • @StaleCrony

    @@AbsoluteyAmerican perhaps, it seems like that’s exactly what they may have done. Realistically the F-22 has many things that it can do to avoid getting hit by the P-51. Maybe it really did have one arm tied behind it’s back, maybe their agreement was to remain bellow a certain speed and altitude in order to give the P-51 a chance to stay within the turn circle. It actually makes a lot of sense. It does make me wonder though, if the F-22 was restricted then I want too see a version of the fight that the Raptor gives it it’s best attempt every time. I doubt the P-51 will have a chance but it sounds fun to view.
