Curators' introduction - Hieroglyphs: unlocking ancient Egypt

Discover why and how the thrilling discovery of the Rosetta Stone in 1799 provided the key to decoding hieroglyphs, allowing us to read this ancient script.
Curators of Hieroglyphs: unlocking ancient Egypt, Ilona Regulski and Kelly Accetta Crowe, explore how this breakthrough, 200 years ago, came to pass after the exciting race for decipherment by France’s Jean-François Champollion (1790-1832) and England's Thomas Young (1773-1829). Cracking the ancient code of hieroglyphs opened up the world of ancient Egypt and expanded our understanding of human history by some 3,000 years.
This event is part of the public programme supporting Hieroglyphs: unlocking ancient Egypt (13 October 2022 - 19 February 2023).

Really interesting accounts of ancient Egyptian life, as so often so similar to ours as far as interactions are concerned. The focus of the excellent presentation is on Egyptian writing. There were apparently over 600 signs, some of them standing for letters, some for syllables, and multiple ways to spell a certain word or name.... Thanks so much!!!

How funny, and awesome at the same time. @45:00 (her favorite). Did you notice "3rd month of Akhet [flood season], Day 14" The gods are sad because what was done to Osiris, is this because Seth cut Osiris into 14 pieces. 3rd month, 14th day is 3.14, which is Pi, used in the design of The Great Pyramid. I like to cut my pie into many pieces too.

Do you know if the 3rd month, 14th day is December 5th, the date of the Roman god Faunus, them being into the Sun, Moon and Stars, December 5th is when the Sun is Ophiuchus, which has a pyramidal top, looking like an Obelisk or Coffin, below the Sun is the Red Star Antares, the Heart of the Scorpion in Scorpion, which I believe is associated with Serket "She who causes the throat to breath", this is if the flooding season started at the end of August, like I've heard tell.

Have you heard the theory that hieroglyphs are related to the Welsh language? The connection was stated to be pronunciation.

No one has correctly translated the hieroglyphs from Egypt. No one could ever speak hieroglyph because it is not a phonetic language in any respect. The glyphs are pictographic ideograms, each one conveying a lot of information relevant to the subject. It is very simple to learn and understand as it was made to convey information, concisely and unambiguously. It was designed so that language didn’t matter to the reader, just understanding of what pictures are portraying. An eight-year-old can grasp the concepts of the Hieroglyphs in five minutes. Once read correctly, Egypt becomes a very different proposition and is important for humanity to know, which is why it is there. Why we have accepted the obvious fraud that is ancient Egypt is mind-boggling and what is more troubling is that the fraud is endemic across science. When you find out how to read the glyphs it is so obvious that it is almost embarrassing to admit we believed something else. There is no way for science to debunk its way out of the truth which imperils many a mighty institution and tightly held paradigms about who we are and where we came from.
