    That's an NP205 transfer case, not a 208. The 208 is a cast aluminum chain drive case similar but inferior to an NP241, in the video you can see that the T-case is cast iron and it's an all gear driven case - no chains. I've had several apart. I believe Dodge used a 23 spline input gear or a 29 spline male input gear with a 6 bolt round mounting pattern version of the NP205 in the '93 and older cummins trucks (I think autos used the 23 spline and diesel manuals were 29, could be wrong). My understanding is that the 29 spline input gear will swap in to Ford version NP205s and 32 spline input gear Chevy NP205s (usually found behind TH400s and some later SM465s IIRC), however, the Ford and GM version were female splined gears. These NP205 cases ran a larger bearing on the input gear, there are smaller input bearing 205 cases used by Dodge and GM in earlier and/or non diesel trucks like the 23 spline input gear Dodge version NP205 or the NP205 found behind the TH350 or early SM465s with a 10-spline male input gear.

    So will the chevy np205 not bolt up to the dodge 5 speed?

  • @thisisatest2576

    @thisisatest2576

    8 ай бұрын

    @@225mc If it's a 6-bolt round pattern version GM NP205 that should match the transfer case adapter on the Dodge 5-speed as far as bolt pattern. I think you would need the 29 spline male input gear from a Dodge NP205 and the 29 spline female coupler to swap into the large bearing 32 spline input GM 205 case in order to match the Dodge 5-speed 29 spline output shaft, assuming the 5-speed came from a Dodge diesel truck, if it is a 5-speed from a gas engine Dodge truck then you need the 23-spline Dodge female input gear that uses a small input bearing. The small input bearing Dodge input gear would work with other/older versions of the GM 205 with the smaller 27 (TH350 automatic) or 10 spline input gears (older SM465 4-speed manuals) use a smaller input bearing diameter that is the same as the 23-spline Dodge 205 input gear and a figure 8 bolt pattern to bolt to the transmission, but the bolt pattern wouldn't match the 6-bolt round pattern on the Dodge 5-speed. Those versions of the GM 205 would need some custom machining to work with the Dodge 5-speed. I edited my original comment above, as initially I had forgotten about the 23-spline version Dodge 205, so hopefully that is more accurate now.

    I don't know what the big deal with Cummins swaps in squarebodys drop some money into a decent later model 6.2 or 6.5 would be equally up to the task as any Cummins...you want a Cummins buy a dodge also diesel power in a half ton truck is not really that practical especially if you live in a rural area or where village and small town stations don't sell a lot of diesel fuel it can become contaminated with water or sediment which is murder on injectors as well as multiple fuel system parts...just my 2 cents

    12 valve Cummins didn't only come in dodges,they came in ford's f700, busses all kinds of machinery including cranes ,I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't come in some model chevy.they are very simple to work on unlike v8 diesels.They are a great industrial long lasting engine that will not only outlast the dodge truck it came in but probably outlast anything it comes in if taken care of.
