    Here's 1 for ya.. Just swapped a 6bt into an 88 that was a Fuel Inj 454. Purple wire to new 6.0 powerstroke starter solenoid terminal. Key in on/run position. 12v present to solenoid nut not enough current to crank. Key to crank and engine runs. Apparently there are 2 circuits that feed the purple solenoid wire... a 3 amp and a 20 amp. I'm guess it's was a fuel injection pcm need?

    If you are simply dropping an ignition distributor back in place, the above Sam's method may be OK. And for those of you who are wanting a simple 2 minute (or less) explanation, you may as well skip past my comments! However, if you are wanting to locate "true # 1 TDC", please note that it cannot be achieved by placing a finger over the # 1 spark plug port, whether working on an auto engine, snowmobile engine, motorcycle engine, go cart engine, etc, The main reasons for locating True # 1 TDC are as follows: ...... Camshaft phasing for those who are after maximum performance. ...... Ignition timing for those who are after maximum performance. ...... to verify the Harmonic balancer indexing line against the corresponding timing tab markings. In order to locate True # 1 TDC, we use a PPS (positive piston stop) tool, a degree wheel and a temporary wire (or other) pointer tool. Using the PPS tool, we mechanically stop the piston at approximately 20 to 30 degrees at either side of what would be theoretical TDC. We can stop the piston at 18*, 21*, 32* or 25*..... it does not matter as long as we shoot for the degree at either side of theoretical TDC. I prefer to stop the piston at/near 30* for more accuracy. The amount of degrees can be referred to as the "split". As we continue to to rotate the crankshaft (in both directions) the piston will be stopped at either side of theoretical TDC. We continue until we see an equal "split" on either side of what would be theoretical TDC. Once we see an equal amount of degrees (the "split"), we remove the PPS tool, and then bring the crankshaft around to where the "un-touched" pointer is aiming at ZERO. Now we look at the TDC markings and make any necessary corrections. Whether using a spark plug port PPS tool, or a cylinder block deck PPS tool, there is NO substitute for this method. Using the PPS tool/degree wheel, will give you as close to true TDC as necessary. If attempting to achieve this by using a dial-indicator (on the piston deck), you would need to account for connecting rod TDC dwell, of which is nearly impossible to do. ..............

    It is truely better to run separate return lines. The swaps that have hydroboost and power steering troubles always get fixed when switched to separare returns. Its very simple, just get a pump assembly or swap reservoirs to anything 1997/8 to 2002 dodge used those had dual return fittings. Some guys just get lucky with t'd return lines and getting all the air out of the system.

  • @jessehanger
    @jessehanger21 күн бұрын

    What would you do for the clutch master and slave cylinder setup for this swap? I have a 12v ppump/nv4500 and my truck was originally a hydro boost manual but got swapped to automatic. Been wanting to swap it back but wasn’t sure what setup would be best

  • @reedgarside4088

    by a dodge 97 3500 powersteering pump, for dodge it has 2 return lines already built in!

    So say I have a hydro boost truck with a ppump engine where do I plumb the vacuum pump to. I hear it’s not a good idea to just cap it.

  • @technicalcowboy
    @technicalcowboy21 күн бұрын

    If you have no use for vacuum then cap it, doesn't hurt a thing. Do not leave it wide open, the pump discharges into the engine crankcase and if vac pump is left open you will have what looks like excessive blowby. I ran a vac line from pump to the fire wall and connected to original vac line for the hvac to use for switching door modes.

    Just got a C20 with a cummins swap already. Gonna start the clean up process. Your videos have been super helpful, one thing I'm unsure of is how to run the exhaust.
