    My roommates were drooling over Gladys at the start of the lockdown. They were incredibly defensive of her even when I listed her previous corrupt behaviour and that she had delayed the lockdown far too long, obviously defying health advice, resulting in more people dying and a longer lockdown. They. Did. Not. Care. It was only after months of seeing her refuse to properly answer questions in press conferences that they got suspicious of her. It's fucked.

    If you can try to share them videos of Gladys cult level corruption like this one. Try directly sharing on Facebook so when they come across it in their news feed it will automatically play. There is a lot of links to regurgitate when it comes to proving these slimy MP's corruption which makes people become bored and disinterested in the necessary long and drawn out conversations. Whereas a hard hitting video like what Jordies tends to keep people interested long enough for them to learn.

    Julia was a Labor woman, unmarried and not a christian. She was such a polar opposite to the mythos of the Mother of Conservatives Margaret Thatcher that the only option for the LNP was to "ditch the witch". Abbott is a great example- he used to call non christian women sluts all through his university years, so he had been cocked and loaded since 1979 against women who talk back, the gays, the environmentalists, the native land titles, the funding for public schools, the endangered species, the welfare of the common folk, etc, etc...

    Sickening to hear ageing people advising everyone to be 'grateful' to a politician clearly involved in corruption. I'm old enough to remember well the World War 2 generation and whilst they held some different values to what's in vogue now, they were largely common sense people who were easy to respect. Since their passing the 'elders' we are left with today are an embarrassment in comparison.

They've got paid-off houses they can sell for upwards of $1M, they had stable employment on wages that kept pace with inflation, they have decent super funds. They're mostly going to miss the ecological disaster. So to them, what's the problem? They can mostly ignore politics and be fine.

    @@YoureUsingWordsIncorrectly I agree with your summation and interestingly there is a parallel statement to this current generation that seems to fit this. 2 Timothy 3:1-5 But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty. For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. And as many have commented many of our politicians are only in politics to garner for their personal gain and really have little interest in the people. But wait on those who control them.

Her corrupt behaviour, the way she has blamed the bad boyfriend for her mistakes, the woe is me, wah wah wah, the whole 'I don't recall', the straight up lying to our faces about how she has worked with the highest level of integrity in mind, have set back women's place in high office for years. As a sidenote, it's odd that the feminists have been so quiet about this. Taking away she is a woman, and treat her as the premier of the most populous state in this nation, she has presided over some serious environmental damage, and tremendous waste of taxpayer resources. Sold public assets at mates rates, LightRail was a waste, that new stadium knock down/rebuild is a waste- why not just repair it if they want it so bad. As for the Opal card, her supposed watershed moment, that is a straight rip off from the Oyster card in London. Sorry to burst the bubble (not really). She needs to be banished from parliament altogether, state federal and local, and wipe out the LNP from NSW and from Canberra. They are terrible for public health, the environment, the pensioners. She, and the party, have shown zero leadership in crisis times (pandemic), cannot stand up to big business' hissy fits, made obnoxious decisions with the Ruby Princess, and letting the virus rip in the community when we are not even fully vaccinated yet (no, we are not at 80%, we are the only country that discounts the under 16s. We are closer to 60%). Berejiklian has been a disgrace #sorrynotsorry #spineless #scomomadeherdoit #noexcusestho #byebye #goodfuckingriddance

    Whatever the media is seeing in Gladys Berijiklian really doesn't have as much to do with her gender or heritage as they claim. Both these things also apply to Queensland's Premier, yet, the coverage there has been outright nasty, sexist, and began with mocking her surname. Many Queenslanders I know STILL refuse to watch The Project after their coverage leading into Queensland state election. It would be interesting to look at their ratings for QLD state before covid and now. I suspect it's not only people that I know.

    The emphasis of many media outlets on Gladys being a woman as a psuedo-defense against her mismanagement and corruption reminds me of a video on representation by Patricia Taxxon, which hit on a very important point about >flawed bad For somebody who may feel marginalised or disenfranchised in a sphere of the world (in this case, politics), representation isn't always case of "this person was perfect and flawless and great, and that's why they matter" - representation of flawed individuals (or just bad content) can be valuable representation in itself. Gladys was in many aspects ... not a great (or at least a clearly controversial and flawed) politician on many axes - particularly those of ethical conduct. Therefore, she was in many ways a flawed representative for women in politics. And that's okay, because Women can - and will be flawed politicians too. The attempt to 'photoshop' away the errors is not only a cynical attempt at narrative control that's severely divorced from reality, it's also from my perspective damaging in terms of selling a narrative to would-be young female politicians of what's possible, what's moral/ethical; and how to get there.

  • @sokar_rostau

    @sokar_rostau

    I think it's relevant that she's one the ugliest female politicians we've ever had and also happens to be one of the few who didn't get somehow attacked over her gender, clothing, or marital status. This seems to send the message that if you're the least bit attractive you're going to be attacked or at the very least taken less seriously but if you're ugly they have to focus on other things, like talent, skills, or professional background.

    Sign of the times where we focus too much on the personalities and forget the importance of the underlying principles that the leader is supposed to strive to exemplify. Her persona was shaped by the media as being this stand(sit) alone major power house takes no prisoners leader but they wanted the punters to then believe that she was vulnerable to falling victim to a dodgy Daryl from Woga. The two narratives are intolerably contradictory any observer would have to be extremely creative to believe that she could simultaneously hold both positions in their stressed modern minds. Really it was the Punter who was taken for a ride and voted this person in and that is a fact readily denied. She will be forgotten.

    @@wakaisgood I dont know about you, but I don't have love, respect, grace and compassion for those who let major avoidable disasters happen despite the pleas from concerned citizens to take action before its too late. Gladys could have taken action to prevent the catastrophic 2019-2020 bushfire season, she didn't. Gladys could have taken action on the Ruby Princess docking to prevent, if not, slow the rate at which COVID spread throughout the country, she didn't. Major disasters like that of which you could easily take appropriate action do not earn you love, respect, honor, grace and compassion. Combined with corruption allegations doesnt make for a good look of a premier.

    Gladys: Cult of zero personality. The opal card was born out of a clusterf*ck of epic proportions. It wasn't even the system they wanted to use (just one they could rip from the london underground oyster card) The fact that it now works reasonably well isn't a compliment.

    its the beak which swings my vote.. she could shelter half of Spotless Stadium with that thing, and all of it if she tilted her head to the side. Did she get a nosejob to look more like one of the Opera House fairings or something. And I wont mention the fact that she always looked like she was going to break into a depressive cry at any moment.

    Your'e right. My 87 year old father, tradesman then union organiser, labor member for ever. On retirement spent every Thursday stuffing envelopes at Jill Halls office for years. Still buys two papers a day ( the Telegraph and Newcastle Herald) and only watches free to air news, fell for it hook line and sinker. Caught up with Dad last weekend after months of lock down and he tells me he wrote Gladys a condolence letter! I just about lost my shit with him. Fuuuck even a bit of ABC as bad as they are would've given an inkling of what was going on. Can't believe I have to reeducate my old man.

Wow. Thank you to those 3 people for showing the rest of the country that those who voted for Gladys have the intelligence and maturity of kindergarteners.
