CULEBRA - PARADISE IN PUERTO RICO with WORLD'S BEST BEACH - PLAYA FLAMENCO 2024

We spent 24 hours on Culebra Island in Puerto Rico. It has one of the world's most beautiful beach - Playa Flamenco. Flying to Culebra with Flamenco Air was a lot of fun with scary landing at a tiny Culebra airport. We also rented a gold cart to explore the island which is the most convenient way to travel around as the island is pretty small and you can get around in an hour.
Next day we took a fast ferry from Culebra back to Puerto Rico mainland. It took only 45 minutes and was a lot of fun as you could see the ocean giant waves and enjoy fresh air with great views.
We highly recommend adding a day trip to Culebra island to your itinerary when in Puerto Rico.

    For anyone debating a trip to Culebra, it’s 100% worth it. As someone who’s visited nearly every major Caribbean island, there’s not one that I think about revisiting more than Culebra.

    When I was 18 years old in 1975, I was a young sailor stationed at Roosevelt Rd., Naval Station and I periodically was tasked with the responsibility of running the Navy outpost there on Culebra. It was a magical place that I quickly fell in love with. I found some old navy charts that showed all of the shipwrecks around Culebra. There were over 100 of them, and I found myself wishing that I knew how to dive and had the equipment so I could explore them in my spare time. As it was, my activities and I were limited to flamenco Beach. It was a hell of an adventure for an 18 year old kid. I am now 65 and long for that island and those carefree days.

    The amazing thing about those beaches is that they have remained pure without human damage. He who seeks the "comforts" of civilization, this is not his island. Normally these people do not value these types of places, which are becoming less and less common.

    Not sure how you found that path to Flamenco, but there is a main entrance, with a parking lot, bathrooms, showers, food vendors etc. Flamenco is also a camp ground so they have all of those facilities you said they dont have.

  • @CheckerTravel

    @CheckerTravel

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hi @Carlos The camping area was closed because of pandemic. Only Flamenco Beach Hotel was open (with parking lot as you mentioned) but opened for customers of the hotel only. It was sold out for our days, and we could not use it. This is one of the main entrances used by all guests now - you can see all the cars parked along the way and there was one rental booth at the entrance. Maybe sometime later they will open everything up or opened just now. We were in Culebra in April :)

    Hi @Fred We rented with Carlos Jeep Rental online. They have golf carts and Jeep Wrangler for rent. The island is very small, so golf cart is much more fun unless you have lots of luggage with you. There are only 2 rental offices on the island, so we recommend getting one in advance.
