    @@CheckerTravel The modern piña colada originated in 1954 at the lobby bar of the Caribe Hilton hotel in the Condado area of San Juan. In 1992 the government of Puerto Rico wanting to settle claims of origin had some research done which indicated a pirate (Cofresí) had a similar basic drink, that’s why it’s a modern version. BARRACHINA didn’t serve the drink until 1963-64 and has lied since then about being the originators of the drink. They have falsely made this claim to attract gullible tourists from the cruise ships that dock nearby. In 2004 the government of PR issued an official proclamation to the Caribe Hilton celebrating the 50th anniversary of the drink. By the way, BARRACHINA serves their version from a slurpee machine (pre-made frozen drink). There are better versions all over old San Juan than theirs.

    We are going to the South Pacific in March 2026 on the small high end cruise ship Paul Gauguin . Our cruise is 14 days leaving Tahiti and going to Bora Bora (2 days) Moorea , Huahine, the Marquesas Islands, etc. it's a great way to see the islands. All our food is included and you don't get ripped off. I am paying $22,000 for two people for two weeks. We booked a balcony cabin but you can get a cheaper room on the ship, such as a porthole. The only thing you have to pay extra for would be excursions on the islands or go explore the islands yourself. Its a good deal!

    Can you securely leave your baggage inside the Pod and go Wash-up for prayer or to go to find meals / dinner? My niece is going soon with her 2 daughters. They need the security to be able to pray and have security to rest without having to go far to a hotel. Is this worth it?

  • @CheckerTravel
    @CheckerTravel24 күн бұрын

    Definitely, this is not a type of a hotel to securely lock your belongings and leave. The pods have a small space underneath which is secure as long as you sleep on top of it. There is no space for them to pray there, unfortunately, as it is a very quiet and tight area. It’s not designed to be a re-entry hotel. And for three of them it would be expensive to pay for the time they don’t actually sleep. Maybe a regular hotel room inside the airport or around the airport is better (if they have a long layover and enough time to go through security again). Hope this helps.

    You had a garden view it seems. The cheapest is the resort view. What do you think of the resort view?

  • @CheckerTravel
    @CheckerTravel27 күн бұрын

    We checked and stayed at several different rooms at the Royal Hawaiian hotel. The best was of course Historic wing garden Suite - it’s big, has a living room, additional amenities and we had a beautiful historic garden view. Resort view might just mean that you’ll be assigned any available room. Usually those can face a lonely tree or a wall / parking structure. But once all simple rooms are gone - you’ll probably get the same garden view. The hotel is beautiful and if you don’t plan on spending much time in the room - any option will work. If you don’t mind spending a little extra - we’d recommend getting a smaller room but with ocean view in the historic wing. The suite we got was very nice but almost x3 price. You can watch full review for suite and a detailed resort review here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/fIiIz6OBqNu8nJs.htmlsi=b20NFaNHmOVlboD_ Hope this helps! Have a great trip 😍

    Thanks, Ivan! We had fun making something new for the channel 😅 the prices in the US are much higher and we miss high quality food in Europe. We did get prosciutto in Spain - it’s sliced ham for like $2.5 We do cook a lot and love going to our farmer’s market to get organic fruits and veggies. We get groceries only at Trader Joe’s and Wholefoods as they have a good mix of everything and seem to be healthier.

    Hmm the supermarkets were not really comparable - the first two seemed smaller, more boutique with pricier and better quality offerings - and of course Ukraine is on a war time economy - then there is the bargain basement home of crap Walmart which is a big industrial warehouse full of unhealthy basic food or discount imported European food - even then the US is still the most expensive.....

  • @CheckerTravel
    @CheckerTravelАй бұрын

    Haha, I feel your pain… In Europe historically all grocery shops are smaller and have not so much variety (because do you really need so many choices? ), but almost anything you take is high quality as they have higher quality standards and ban the use of many chemicals, preservatives, dyes etc that are allowed in the USA. They are not boutique, just regular neighborhood go-to grocery stores. The closest equivalent in the US is Trader Joe’s that we absolute love. As you noticed, we didn’t go to Wholefoods or Gelson’s or similar much pricier stores. Why Walmart is the most expensive ? The food for thought.

    @@CheckerTravel Don't generalize) In northern Europe there are plenty of grocery shops, where you have temptation to use car in a shop. And small ones, they are expensive and with little choice. Do I need a lot of choice? Hell, no, in case shop has exactly the products, I want.

  • @blondreports

    Ideally you had to shop in Lidl in all 3 counties. Spain has Lidl as well and Spanish Lidl is often cheaper than in other countries. Mercadona is popular but Carrefour is a deal breaker in Spain as well. Also there is Aldi in Spain, similar chain to Lidl. Lidl is not the best to be compared with other shops as they often have smaller packages/sizes. You pay 30 cents for a loaf of bread, but that loaf is 2-3 times lighter that the one you took in Mercadona. USA has Aldi. Ideally you had to translate weight to value, not number of items to value.

  • @CheckerTravel
    @CheckerTravelАй бұрын

    Ideally yes, but there is no Aldi or Lidl in Ukraine, so we just went with the popular options. Carrefour in Spain is great, but there was none in the walking distance as most of them are far from the central part, and the smaller Carrefour express stores are too small with little choice. Of course, it’s an approximate comparison as we just wonder and grab similar random items from the shelves that seem to be the best value. But in general, you get the idea of the prices and how much one can spend for basics.

    Fascinating! Thanks for this video. We love to wander the aisles in grocery stores wherever we go just to see the different varieties of products and prices. I’m curious to know if the stores in the countries you visited have coupons or sales, or is that more of an American thing? What we buy on grocery visits here in LA definitely depends on what’s on sale!

  • @CheckerTravel
    @CheckerTravelАй бұрын

    Thanks for your kind feedback 😍 we love discovering new food and flavors! especially in Europe the quality of food is soo much better! everything tastes divine and is healthier than 99% of food in the US. We rarely see coupons but they do have sales, especially when something new is introduced or maybe not selling well and they need to clear the shelf. The prices in LA are so high that we estimate spending at least x3-4 times more on groceries in the US compared to Europe.

    Thanks, Kenya! the cost of the produce in the US is just getting out of control. It seems like the prices keep increasing without obvious reason. As a consumer activist I would never shop in Walmart anyhow, but that's neither here no there. I would be curious about government regulations in other countries and see if they are as stringent as US laws, which I believe is the reason our costs are so much higher for groceries. Other things, not so much. Cable for example is much cheaper in europe because they control costs to the consumer where the US just lets them charge whatever they want. Great episode though, thank you, this was very interesting.

And the food is not only much cheaper, but tastes like real food. Milk shelf life is 7-10 days max, not months. German and French people eat tons of bread and butter, but they are not obese, because it’s natural butter and high quality bread which costs pennies. You’ll be surprised that even US brands like Kellogg’s, Mars make healthier variations of the same cereals and chocolates for the EU market, while selling loads of sugar, poisonous dyes, palm oil and corn syrup to kids in the US at much higher prices :( On a separate note, we rarely shop in Walmart, as we don’t have it around and don’t like the range of produce, but it’s the most popular in the US and is considered to have the lowest prices. We shop in Trader Joe and Wholefoods.

The US however allowed all car makers to us US highways for testing without notifying anyone they were being used as test dummies. I know Walgreens is popular, because few people care that they put millions of people out of jobs by shutting out competitors and forcing companies like Nike to manufacture in China in order to get shelf space. It doesn’t make sense for most people in transit to leave the airport. First, some tourists need a Visa to leave the transit area. Second, you need to go through security and passport control again which takes a lot of time. Most transit connections at Doha are only 4-12 hours, you are better off staying at the airport lounge or such capsule hotel to have a nap for a few hours. Yes, it’s more expensive compared to what the city has to offer. But coffee and water in the airports are more expensive too. It’s just how airports work.
