Puerto Ricans all over the globe are super appreciative of Mikey for educated the world on a cuisine most know nothing about. When you go back for round two of alcapurias and find more bacalaitos, we can tell you're genuinely enjoying it. Only thing your missing is home cooking. Cuban food is the 💣, Dominican food is another cuisine most know nothing about but is delicious, several South America countries rock the culinary scene and then there is Mexico!!!! As hard as it is to admit, as a Puerto Rican, they lead the latin world with their cuisine and are up there with the leaders of the world in food.

San Juan is NOT in the US. It's in Puerto Rico, which is OWNED by the US. It's not a state, has no sovereignty...not part of the US, it's property of the US.

Seeing other people from other backgrounds and cultures enjoy your own culture is such a great feeling

When I went to Puerto Rico for a wedding, I stayed in Rincón. Lemme tell y’all, I love Spanish food and the PR food stands had some of the best cuisine I’ve ever tasted. This owner of an empanada stand across the street from our condo made me special spicy empanadas every and only charged me 50 cents. I still crave them to this day.

I love seeing people try our food! As a puertorican I honestly like talking and learning about tourists when I see them! It's also a pleasure to see them actually enjoy the food :D The video was really fun

I haven't visited the island in almost 12 years, but I still think about the food every now and then. So damn good...

So glad you enjoyed the trip to my home island, please come back soon (hopefully when the pandemic is over) so you can continue to enjoy the island. I hope that you get to try Chinese food on the island the next time you come because the two cultures fuse very nicely when it comes to food.

In the center of the island and other places they use plantains mixed with other tubercles as well. They are better than green bananas ones.

The fact that you opened w bacalaítos and an alcapurria mannnnnn I knew this was finna be a great video, giving me flashbacks of childhood and allat 😩 thank you for trying some real local food that I’d do anything to have rn lmao. Also, empanadas are baked. Puerto Rican’s make pastellitos (pateliyos) which are fried! You should also try bacalao, which is the same dish used in the bacalaítos but served as a filet *kinda lol* w drizzled olive oil ✨chefs kiss✨

Wrong, they are called correctly empanadillas (half moon fried, not matters the borders). Pastelillos are squared, made most of them stuffed inside with guava (guayaba) and it is a pastry.

Im from Puerto Rico and trust me , i Love when i see this videos, i feel rlly proud of my island

So glad you enjoyed the food! Puerto Rican food is not spicy and although some people might put hot sauce on theirs it’s not how it’s traditionally done. Just to be clear there’s nothing wrong if you wanna put hot sauce on your food but just wanted to clarify that our food is not spicy because a lot of tourists think that it is. Personally my favorite chinchorro at Piñones is El Boricua and you gotta go to Guavate in Cayey next time where they have lechón asado(roasted pork on a spit) and truly classic local food in the mountain.

I'm so glad you had such a great trip. I love visiting Puerto Rico. The people, the food, and the island are all wonderful.💖

My mom always makes us bacalaitos and alcapurrias 💕 🇵🇷 I'm 2nd gen Puerto Rican and I've unfortunately never been to Puerto Rico. My grandfather grew up in San Juan so before I die I need to go and visit his childhood home. And get some mofongo and pasteles 🤤😭

The thing is that you can find a different taste everytime, cause the seasoning depends obviously on the cook. Over all something to indulge every once in a while. Our Puerto Rican food is one to enjoy. Our mofongo and seafood is a must!

Visited campamento pinones today and I'm so glad we did. The food was amazing just like you said. The one thing I tried that wasn't on your video was beef that was surrounded by soft sweet plantains and then battered and deep fried. It looked like a large hockey puck and it was absolutely amazing. The large fish cake was my second favorite.

This video brought tears to my eyes, and I'm not even Boricua. but I lived there for 7 wonderful years and still fantasize about moving back ... I remember going to the Kioscos at Luquillo Beach to eat Tacos de Jueyes and Piononos with beer, lots of beer, but even stopping at the kiosquitos on the beach near Levittown to eat Bacalaítos and maybe Cuajo (looked awful but tasted great, like pork), and going at 3 a.m. to the stands on the street in Ocean Park and Isla Verde for Mofongo and Mofongo con Caldo de Pollo, the best hangover preventive ever ! The musicians and Casino Croupiers used to go there when they got off work. And the stories of how sickly babies were nursed back to health with Guarapo de Caña - which occasionally we could buy from somebody with a Guarapo Press by the side of the road - there were still cane fields on the outskirts of Dorado in those days, back in the 1970's .... and the Asaltos Navideños, and the Asopao and the bottles of homemade Coquito .... wow did THAT pack a punch.... this video has REALLY been a trip down El Sendero del Recuerdo ...

Love how your mom interacts with Christine. 😊 I am in the same situation: I am Korean, and my husband’s parents are from HOng Kong and don’t speak English...So when we meet, it is the same situation.

There is a roadside restaurant here in Wall township NJ called Maria’s Kitchen it is Puerto Rican comfort food it is delicious 🤤. I haven’t been there is a while but it’s so good

Since I don't live in PR at least I'm in NY cause we have plenty of places here to eat home cooking. Only downside is that I miss the warm weather😂🇵🇷

I am so happy that you loved my "Isla del Encanto" Puerto Rico...thanks for showing some of our culture... next trip you could try the best refreshing drink Maví...foodwise white rice with red kidney beans, mofongo, and anything with "jueyes" (type of crabmeat) is great...

Needed to see this. I miss PR. FYI, help you out with the lingo - Bah-Kah-lah-ee-to | Al-kah-pooh-rr(roll that r)-ia | Le'-CHONE |Ah-reh-pa. Next time be sure to have some Coquito, I always explain it as puerto rican eggnog. Another good one is Pasteles, always reminds me of the holidays.
