24 Hours in Culebra, Puerto Rico Part 1 [Playa Tamarindo + More]

Culebra, Puerto Rico, also known as La Isla Chiquita (The Little Island), is located 17 miles east of the Puerto Rican mainland and is home to fewer than 2000 residents. Formerly part of the Spanish Virgin Islands, it’s home to a variety of wildlife including deer, sea turtles, coral, and of course its namesake, snakes.
Exploring this island has been on our bucket list since we visited its neighbor, Vieques to see the incredible bioluminescent bay there. In this two-part series, we explore the best of Culebra in 24 hours.

This is a good video. After recently spending 3 weeks in Culebra, I would like to mention that there is a better entrance to Flamenco (just follow the pavement instead of turning on the dirt path) It costs $7 to enter. There is parking for Jeeps and ATVs. There are multiple food kiosks. A bar with karaoke, souvenir shop, a place to rent beach chairs and umbrellas, decent bathroom and a nice communal shower to rinse the sand off. You'll be sharing with others including Roosters and cats, but its still a nice area to rinse off. No getting naked. Not only is Playa Flamenco wonderful, with everything you need, right on the beach, I would also like mention Playa Zoni, on the north side of the island. Roads are narrow and hills, but my golf cart did just fine. It's a beautiful drive. There are no food or beverage options on this beach, however, the water sand and views are beautiful. You'll get a glimpse of the virgin islands from Zoni Beach. As a fellow traveler, just wanted to share my perspective. I'm officially subscribed to your channel. Thank you for the great content.

The reason for red street lights is to protect the sea turtle hatchlings. When the turtles hatch they confuse the white lights for the moonlight and end up being crushed by cars. In the past few years in many coastal towns around Puerto Rico, they have changed to those red lights.

And that's exactly why I don't go in the ocean Jim. Or any other body of water that's not an indoor pool with lights.

The sharks won't bother you (unless they're bull sharks - but they're usually found only in brackish, murky water; the kind you wouldn't want to swim in anyway). Remember, sharks like to eat sushi just like we do! They don't eat people for much the same reasons people don't eat other people - because we taste horrible from all the iron in our blood, and the garbage we eat for our diet, and the medicines we take, etc - they make our flesh taste terrible. Remember: Fish generally taste like what they normally eat - so, fish that have a diet mainly of shrimp will sort of taste like shrimp... Now you know the secret to ordering a fish for dinner!

I enjoyed the video, however I was disappointed that you didn't speak more Spanish. I watch your videos to improve my Spanish and share your experiences.

Hey John! Thanks for the feedback. Sorry to hear that. We speak much more English on the channel since most of viewers are beginners (~60%) - but we made our podcast just for people like you who want more practice listening to real Spanish conversations. It's almost entirely in Spanish. Have you heard about it before? It's call Learn Spanish and Go: spanishandgo.com/podcast ¡Un saludo! -Jim
