In the 1990 Nintendo World Championship competition, Tetris was the game to beat. The winner, Thor Aackerlund, is still seen by many as the best to have ever played. Today’s Classic Tetris tournaments are played on that same version of Nintendo Tetris, using original NES game systems, controllers, and Tetris cartridges. In 2009, a player named Harry Hong became the first to achieve the highest possible score of 999,999 points. Inspired by this achievement, filmmaker Adam Cornelius produced a short film about Harry called “Max-Out”, and launched a Kickstarter campaign to document the world of competitive Tetris. As word of Adam’s Kickstarter campaign spread, rumors of max-out scores from other Tetris Masters began to surface, threatening the supremacy of Harry’s achievement. With the help of Nintendo World Championship veteran Robin Mihara, Adam searched for all of the Tetris Masters he could find. Jonas Neubauer emerged as an early max-out artist, along with the elusive original champ Thor Aackerlund. The idea of bringing these and other NES Tetris Masters together to compete in a live tournament became an obvious and irresistible proposition which was artfully captured in the 2010 feature length documentary Ecstasy of Order: The Tetris Masters. Under the leadership of producer Vince Clemente, The Classic Tetris World Championship is currently held at the Portland Retro Gaming Expo, an annual event which has hosted the tournament since 2012. Chuck Van Pelt and his organizing committee have built the PRGE into the largest classic gaming expo in the country, drawing around 9000 attendees. Every year the scores get higher. @@alexonpoint9187 Felt the same way about Joseph with his swearing and anger during his streams and videos, compared to the angelic Jonas - cute Heather combination. From what I've heard of him he's a nice guy though, and his appearence through text seems much more modest too, always nice and friendly in his comments, too

You should look at the other half of the bracket
Joseph may be the best Classic Tetris player, but I don't think anyone at CTWC comes close Greentea in being able to play the game as a whole. He's just a stacking genius.

To be fair he was playing Sean which could have been a semi final game in previous years, and Sean was playing very well. He really gave Koryan a run for his money in their last game.

PLEASE make a compilation of Greentea and Josh's faces in their games here. Both are incredible.
May I just say that I really appreciate James Chen as a commentator. I love his commentary at Street Fighter tournaments, as I find he's enthusiastic, insightful, talks about strategies, gameplay, X's and O's, strengths/weaknesses, tactics & techniques...all the things someone less in the know would appreciate listening to, without hearing slamming and/or smearing or negative talk on the competitors, or commentary completely unrelated to the game, like we hear a lot from the likes of Zhi (can't stand this guy). Anyhow, hearing James Chen here at CTWC, I'm glad to hear the same type of insightful and enthusiastic commentary, for a game that's outside of his expertise. I guess he just has the personality and talent for this type of work. I'm very happy to listen to him here, and look forward to any other events he's a part of.

18:55 Svavar's unexpected top-out is one of the reasons I am trying to learn hypertapping, top-outs that start with just a couple innocent misdrops can often be avoided by hypertapping.

How fast was that? It seems like he had 7 rows to manouver a 4 row high piece, so he needed to rotate and move it four times to the right in 12 frames (that's 3 frames per row times 4 rows left)... It's 5 imputs in 1/5 of a second. This guy is crazy.
To get her in the mood I tell her that my I-piece is tetris-ready

I like the final but I prefer this one. It's like Green Tea is playing with friend, he's having so much fun (and he's even able to appreciate nice actions by his opponent). I just discovered CTWC and I can't wait 2019 edition to see Green Tea, Josh, Joseph, etc again.
can someone please advise me on setting up an ntsc nes in europe for playing tetris. I recently bought an NTSC nes, but i don’t know what kind of converter i need to get everything working. is a 230 tot 110 volt converter enough, or do i also need some kind of converter for the frequency to run it smoothly? And what kind of crt tv would be best to use?

Quaid (Zzyzx) made a nice comeback attempt in game 2 vs. Koryan, but the cleaning up he had to do early on was just too much. 850K+ and it doesn't help him prevent a sweep. I see Harry was able to take a game from Joseph, but too many misdrops on his part. I think he felt more nerves than Joseph did. I wonder how these other two quarterfinal matches went...let me continue...😊😊

i think when green tea was supposed to tell his name, this is what it went through his mind. ctwc: name? in greentea's head: nah, i cant tell them my japanese name, it will be too hard to pronouce. let me just use a made up name of whatever i have in my hand. and boom folks, a legend was in the game, thats how greentea got him name.

Seriously, the folks running the event need to lay down a few ground rules for audience etiquette. Excessive rowdiness like that isn't only annoying, it's probably also super distracting for all the players on that stage.

That was the most impressive Tetris playing I've ever seen from Josh. It would have been awesome if he won but he was unfortunately playing against a robot.
Loved watching Jonas in this match, except for the yutz in the background screaming "BOOM" every time he got a Tetris. I can only imagine how annoying that must have been for all the players there.
