This is brilliant. I'll be getting CK3 tomorrow. With your help I finally managed to play CK2 reasonably well. Actually, my son is impressed. I started CK2 in Cornwall, like you did, trying to learn by watching your videos, I thought it would make sense. I eventually ended up with three duchies and one county in England and at some point something very strange happened, as I suddenly became King of Aragon, Castille and Galicia in Spain, which made my three English duchies Spanish and for some bizarre reason Ireland belongs to Egypt, as does one county in Wales and I am about to go on a crusade against the Aztecs, who have started to invade Scotland. I put CK2 to rest for the time being, as I need to find out why I am losing more money than I have coming in and a few other issues. So I thought I'd get CK3, also. Not sure which extensions I should add. Thanks for your videos. It's great to learn about the games and have lots of fun and laughter watching 🙂

I really don't like the system of how you gain renown. First, you only gain renown from a dynasty member's position if they aren't a direct or indirect vassal of another member of your dynasty. Which means the larger your empire gets, the harder it is to gain renown, as the fewer titles there are that aren't vassals of a member of your dynasty - meaning your dynasty's renown would actually be penalised if you did a WC, which is ridiculous. Why would your dynasty be less renowned for controlling the entire known world just because it's not split up into separate realms!? Second, it can cause you to play against your interests - like here, Jon decides not to conquer his cousin in order to unite his duchy's de jure lands, which of course should be a high priority for a ruler - establishing the integrity of their rightful land - because then his cousin would be under him and his dynasty wouldn't get the renown growth, even though the former, I think at least, would be a higher priority than making your dynasty *slightly* more independently widespread.

Been trying to maximise efficieny with this. Want to have my own kingdom and conquer foreign lands and gift them to family members then grant independence. But if you don't do it in time and you die then confederate partition splits up your intended kingdom and it becomes very hard to wage war against those other family members to recapture those lands you wanted !

Regarding the renown from vassal dynasty members; they still generate children, and I wouldn't underestimate the renown from living dynasty members. It's not as much per person, but fifty dynasty members isn't that hard to get to and maintain and that's another full point of renown per month. In the long run, a full hundred is perfectly achievable. Every title you get in your family's hands is going to be producing more dynasty members, whether they're your vassal or not.

Fun fact: Noble catalan men used to write poetry in occitan language in the early medieval times and its still an official lenguage in Catalonia (even tho i've never heard someone speak it).

Really hoping you'll do a full tutorial, Despite trying SO hard to play Crusader Kings 2 (I even bought all the DLC) I just couldn't get into it. Loved EU4, Stellaris and HoI4 but for some reason I just couldn't experience that same click I got with the others where I went from having no idea what I was doing to actually having fun and knowing what was going on. I never felt like I was in control and actually doing something. Once I'd gotten advisors I didn't feel like I was actually DOING anything. As opposed to EU4 (closest comparison I think) where I was always doing something, whether it being diplomatic stuff, explorations, economic stuff, building an army or preparing for war. I didn't get any of that from CK. Just replying to pop ups, but EU4 had those too so all felt a bit too passive. The worst thing is I'm sure that's because I was playing it wrong haha. So that's my hope, a much better tutorial in game, and a nice video from you and Quill18. It's really aggravating too because of all the games this fits my enjoyment and interest in History, and I really did give it a go multiple times with guides. I tried little places like Ireland and big countries like Spain but I just couldn't do it =/ I'm hopeful for CK3 though. Looks like the UI is a lot easier to understand, and I hear the devs said it's more new player friendly than CK2. If not then I guess it's back to HoI4 or EU4! But I'll be really disappointed because this really feels like it should be my type of game even more than the other paradox games that I have 100+ hours in.

@@juggerboy7182 I have no idea how I'd go about that in CK2. After you get married and set the option to get more kids I'm basically just leaving it alone for hours right? I just found myself sitting there waiting for time to go by, which isn't something I need to do in any other Paradox game. That plus the fact I always play in coop waiting around doesn't equal a fun time haha I'm determined to do better in 3 though!

Another factor may be that EU4 already has a shit ton of DLCs while CK3 has just been released.

"And, I'm not attracted to... Wait what?!" That's pretty much how all gay realisations go, 10/10 very relatable sir "So, you're going to be tortured! And you're going to be tortured! And you're going to be tortured!" "I'm feeling like... In some way... You probably shouldn't torture babies" "No claimant... Means no claim" And the episode is packed full of these, excellent. I'm usually very bad at staying focused on one video for more than ten minutes but this was a pleasure to watch, thank you. I really liked the informative bits of it too!
