Tim Gallagher Naw dude, 90%! Let me guess you were a nuke? I did 16 of 20 yrs on fast boats (silver dolphins) most shipmate scores fell in the upper mid level for all age groups. Failures were the dude’s who did nothing for 6 mos then tried to work out a week before the test. Over a quarter of all the crews I served on, crew members were in the excellent to outstanding range. PRT after deployment is where you would see lower scores as working out underway is limited to minimal equipment or the want to give up valuable rack time..

Being in the navy, these girls did exceptionally well. Every female I have had to do a PRT with if they passed was due to the CFL(command fitness leader) being extremely lenient on form... unfortunately, the mass majority of our sailors( both men and female) do not take physical fitness as seriously as they should. Heck, 80 percent of the men in the navy are not in good as shape as these girls. Good work💪🏼

I'm no Crossfitter or apologist for them, but they were really good sports about this. I suspect that if they had had time (i.e., days) to fully digest the rules of each event, they could have practiced the most efficient technique for the crunches and push-ups, and probably maxed both. Specific comments: (1) Austen jokingly pressured them to touch their elbows high on their knees for the crunches, making them harder (even though Austen explained the rules correctly). (2) Their push-ups look odd, with the chest going down and the butts remaining more up. The 2nd gal did a noticeable dipping motion. Some commenters indicated that this is a Crossfit thing. That should have given them a bit of an unfair edge. However, I've seen all sorts of horrible push-ups among Navy folks taking the PRT. (3) They both made their push-ups harder on themselves with their very narrow hand positions. That makes you use smaller muscles and is also awkward mechanically-you have to go down further to make your upper arm parallel to the ground. (4) To run that specific distance on a track, it really helps to do targeted intervals. Again, with more time to practice (not so much to improve their base cardiovascular fitness, but rather to figure out a strategy), they probably could have taken a lot of time off their runs. Lots to learn from observing this video!

You dont need time to practice 3 of the most commonly performed exercises in every sport!! They do sit ups and press ups and the 1.5miler in cross fit too. If you cant do 50 press ups, 85 sit ups in 2-min and run a sub-10 then you need to look at your training as something is wrong. They were just not very strong and thats the problem with crossfit - it gives this false illusion of strength until they do exercises properly and then they fall to shit. All of their scores and performance were pretty poor. My 17-year old niece is stronger as i have ran these exact tests on her and she performed slightly better on all exercises with better technique and she only has 8-months training with me. Their press up technique was poor because of weak core muscles and poor neurotrophy.

@@wilko4085 Interesting. I have been fooled by that illusion of Crossfitters, not having been involved in it directly myself. But I have also been doing the Navy PRT for decades (and maxing it, not to brag, but just to support my next point) and know that you can significantly increase your scores in each event by practicing the movements exactly as you would on the test, per the very specific rules of the test-even if you are already strong.

One thing I learned after 40 years in this world is that positive reinforcement is the best strategy to keep doing something we believe is hard for us. Yelling doesn't work. Instead of yelling, a personal trainer could say ' so far so good', 'come on your can do more' , 'good girl' or 'you're doing a good job'. I'm a teacher and it works with my students. Sometimes when people are stressed around me yelling, complaining, charging me the impossible I keep working and repeating this words for me.

I was a CFL (Command Fitness Leader) when I was in the Navy. These girls did great. When people think of the Navy they immediately assume that we’re all Navy Seals, but NO. When you think of the entire Navy, think of a group of employees working at Home Depot. BOOM... Navy. These girls did exceptional in this PRT. They would be CFLs. The Navy PRT is a joke and needs to be held to a much higher standard. Period. Anyone who is in the Navy or was would agree with me.

Abel Moreno it may seem so but it’s actually not. There are A LOT of sailors getting in TROUBLE because of their health. It is because of the horrible standard. So it actually is effecting the Navy mission with everyone getting put on FEP and sometimes getting forced out of the Navy.
