Cross Cut Sled For My Dewalt DWE 7485

Спорт

I've had my Dewalt table saw for a year now , I've been told a cross cut sled is the best thing you can add on to the table saw , so I decided to make one. It's only a small sled , but perfect for my little projects.
Let me know what you think bellow in the comments section (good or bad)...and I will get back to you , thanks

    XLNT video! I fairly new to woodworking and bookmarked this for the future when I am ready to build a sled. I'm in the USA and can easily convert to Imperial but maybe I'll just use metric, my rulers have both. Thanks again my friend

    For your glueups try using a silicon kitchen spatula. It is a versatile spreader and nothing sticks to it so cleanups take moments.

    Since you're screwing the runners on anyway - use double-sided tape instead of glue. Much quicker and gives the possibility of changing the runners if needed...

    Great video. I'll definitely be incorporating some of these ideas into my sled so thank you. How does the sled deal with supporting longer pieces? Say I had to put a dado slot into the end of a piece that was maybe a metre long. Would the sled support that?

  • @wallytrinc9885

    @wallytrinc9885

    Hi David , you make two interesting points ! you'll notice the sled is off/centre , allowing more material to rest on the r/h/side, 700mm length is do-able , I've not attempted a metre long length as of yet , I would imagine it would need (2) clamps to secure it along the front fence . In regards to the dado (blade) honestly they're a grey area here in Aus , because the guard & riving knife have to be removed,,,, the fun Police have deliberately fitted short arbors to prevent their use , deeming the dodo blade unsafe. I believe this to be the case both in the UK (EU) table saws , obviously not the case in the USA ?

  • @davidhaydon4720

    @davidhaydon4720

    Thanks for replying. I'm from the UK and yes it's the same here. I wouldn't want to use the table saw without a riving knife, that's just asking for trouble. The dado example was just the first thing that came into my head. 700mm is still a decent size capacity.

    Quick question. Why did you use wood instead of UHMW or a similar polymer for the runners? Do you have plans for sale?

    Supplied Dewalt 210mm (8 1/4'' ) diameter blade with 24 teeth , great on the sled ,,,,not so great on heavy rip cuts , require upgrade to 40 or 60 teeth blade for clean cuts...

    why three layers of ply for the rear fence? That seems to be way overkill. One ply should have been sufficient for rear fence
