Crochet Heart Top Tutorial for Beginners - FREE Pattern XS-L

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

I believe this Crochet Heart Top Tutorial for beginners, with the free pattern, will bring you lots of joy. Can’t wait to see your lovely handicrafts. Wherever you post, don't forget to tag ABoC Studio ;)
This is an ABoC Studio's design. The pattern was written with love & care by me - Natalie. Feel free to sell your final hand-crafted products. As always, credit to ABoC Studio will be much appreciated 🤍
I was thinking about grading 1 more set of size for the pattern, but ended up with XS-S and M-L for the video. So if you’d like me to grade XL-XXL, please request in the comment. Once there are enough requests, I’ll work on it and include in this description.
✧ Are you an Absolute Beginner?
I'd suggest you to start with a few simpler projects from this playlist: • Absolute-Beginner Croc...
✧ About Gauge:
Usually I rely on the elasticity of the crochet fabric, which flexibly “wraps” around our bodies as garments, instead of stitches’ measurement laid on a flat surface, which is gauge.
However, for this pattern, the Heart shape turns out better with sturdy and (slightly) thick fabric. Therefore, we should regard the Semi-circles’ measurement (illustrated at 10:28) - the 2 base pieces from which the heart shape is built.
✧ Yarn Weight / Category vs. WPI method?
The yarn thickness is standardized into different categories (e.g. Dk No. 3, Aran No. 4, Chunky No. 5, etc.). Normally, you can always look for this information on the yarn label. However in case the label does not provide category info, you can use WPI method to figure out, as described in this link: www.craftyarncouncil.com/stan...
Unfortunately, yarn in the same category can also vary in thickness. So I’d highly recommend the WPI method because it’s much more accurate and reliable. (Proof: 6 WPI lies in both category No. 5 and No. 6)
✧ Meter or Gram?
Using METER instead of gram, as a unit to determine the amount of yarn, is the closest to being accurate, and applicable to all yarn categories (you can always find meter info on the yarn label).
Meanwhile using gram would be kinda risky, because with the same amount of grams you may get more or less yarn depending on the types of material (e.g. Cotton yarn is heavier than acrylic. So with 50gr of No. 4 cotton you'll get about 80 meters BUT with 50gr of No. 4 acrylic you'll get at least 100 meters).
Ultimately, it's always better to have more yarn than NOT enough, so you may wanna buy a little extra just in case!

    Hii🥺💓💓 I'm glad you like it after all! About the folding in, I'm guessing your C2 is too tight (the beginning chain of each row that we make before turning), so the edge of the heart would be shorter than the Dc stitches inside, so the piece curled up 😢 I would recommend you to loosen up the chain loop especially the second loop of the C2!

  • @ABoCStudio

    @ABoCStudio

    3 ай бұрын

    Hi💞 with single-strand, you'll thick yarn (chunky/super chuncky, 6wip). If the yarn is not thick enough the heart won't keep its shape 😢 and also it will be hard to get the right measurement with small yarn, using a big hook to compensate will result in see through fabric yes🧶

  • @ABoCStudio

    It's 4ply❤ keep in mind that yarn category doesn't depend on number ply because ply have different sizes/types too. For this project you can use any yarn in the category Aran (no.4 ) 2 strands together! Usually the category will be displayed on the label of your yarn 🧶 You can also find out category of the yarn on your own using WPI method, follow this link: www.craftyarncouncil.com/standards/how-measure-wraps-inch-wpi

    newbie here so i might have a dumb question.. but if we are using chunky yarn for the single stranded method...do we still use a 5mm hook? the yarn label suggests 8mm but not sure if that's going to yield a different result :(

  • @ABoCStudio

    @ABoCStudio

    3 ай бұрын

    Hii💞 you should use the 5mm as recommended in this pattern 🤗 The hook size suggested on the yarn label is only for customer reference base on the common gauge 4x4in. In general, if you follow a pattern then it's best to stick with pattern's hook size n yarn weight. Only consider label's suggestions when you're freehanding or improvising pattern 🧶 Hope this helps! And feel free to ask me anything else💕
