CritCrab Breaks Character For 10 Minutes

Ойын-сауық

Thanks everyone, genuinely. It's really hard for me to be genuine like this, but the massive outpour of love from the community has made me feel welcome enough to express my gratitude in a safe environment, just this once at least.

This video took a lot out of me to make. It's really hard being vulnerable in this way given everything that's happened. I've been avoidant of making a video like this given that it's not what you come here to see, and I respect your time. But I want to simultaneously express my gratitude, and also contextualize the genuine pain this has all put me through. I'll go back to normal immediately after this, promise. 🦀👑

As someone who writes short stories for fun and posts them online for free, I really feel your exhaustion. What was supposed to be for the joy of being creative became, over time, something that felt more like an obligation. I even tried accepting a few private story commissions and that felt even worse. Burn out is a very real risk for anyone who does what you do. Don't be afraid to do whatever you have to in order to care for yourself. You ever get into a writing community or group, and over time you realize that they're just ignoring your stuff, and only patting each other on the back? That happened to me with acting, and writing. Finally, when I stopped trying to 'write for others' (I did a few scripts for people, too) I actually started enjoying my writing. When everyone tells you that you're doing good work, except for the other 'workers' or your peers, it still kinda hurts. Apparently, jealousy is a real thing, too. You do good work, or create something really amazing, and everyone is jealous of it... So they just don't acknowledge it. I'm not claiming to be better or the best at anything, but it seems like if you do better than someone else, they just will not let it show. Because THEY didn't create it, or it has nothing to do with THEM. OR, the fairweather friends start talking to you...

I think this video highlights something important about D&D and other TTRPGs, as much as we hear horror stories, it can't be underestimated just how many people find a support network for TTRPGs in their life. This is why WotC is so egregious in what they have done with the OGL, it is stepping all over a community that helps so many people, from content creators, to people who just need an environment that they can feel safe socializing in. People aren't going to forgive and forget WotC until they put in place a protection against themselves on the community.

50 views in a day to 1.5K views in 20ish minutes. Dude, you are amazing. You hung in there and made it.. but do us all a favor, Stop putting yourself down. Life has a habit of taking us down paths we never saw ourselves going... and you took that path and carved it into your home. Don't milk the drama, let others play that game while you stay true to yourself.

Crabby, (if I'm allowed to be a bit more familiar), I can really relate to your story right now. As I'm half year into a job hunt after a graduation (and parents are still taking care of me financially) only contact I have with people and only thing I'm doing constantly is weekly DMing. Campaign started in July 2021 and will probably conclude around the second anniversary. I still have a lot to improve and some anxiety from previous campaign and a toxic player (I'm DMing since March 2020, yup, only had 2 sessions before the lockdown, and was a player from November 2019 to March 2022). I sometimes think it's the only thing I truly enjoy doing. Your channel is really helpful to reflect upon some of my actions as well as recognise some potential issues that may arise and, as someone who likes hearing and reading about other people in general, are genuinely very interesting to me. And you also you introduced me to Den of the Drake, whom I also really like right now. Sometimes I wish for more happy ending stories but they also happen, and nuclear meltdown can also be entertaining and some of these people turned out to be unintentionally funny Also it's cool to know your pfp was made by Blaine. Another content creator I enjoy Anyways, thank you for the stories and stay strong!

I've watched your videos for about a year, and although I don't normally comment, your story compelled me to do so. Mad respect to you for not only pulling yourself up like that, but for accepting a helping hand once in a while and placing emphasis on the community. You'll always be the Crab King - and an RPG King - to me, no matter which direction you decide to go. You rock. Thank you for the laughs, the cringe, and the warmth. Long may you reign.

This is one of sooo many stories from creators of how the tiny little community they garnered stepped in and helped them grow. The outreach of other creators, the support of members/subs. Started small and now look what it has become! And you deserve it too. Don’t forget that. It’s just so good. It PROVES that this is a great community and that it will NEVER die. Never. No matter what…the good ppl who play and love D&D will make it better. I believe in all of you so much ❤️

You need to keep in mind that while the Crab may not have existed without the community, it also wouldn't exist without you. You're not just the voice behind it. You're the personality. The mind. And the spirit. The spirit that brings joy to thousands of people every time you upload. You ARE the Crab King. And nothing will change that.

I love your stories and commentary on the. Never thought you were trying to put down the community, just the bad guys within it. I know this must be difficult for you and all creators, players and DMs like myself who are worried about what is going to happen to our hobby. But you know what? Right now what most of us need who are doom scrolling the fall of DnD, is something fun. We NEED YOUR STORIES. WE NEED TO REMEMBER WHY WE PLAY THIS GAME! Make your content. Tell the stories you tell. Maybe for awhile focus on the great moments that happen at the tables. Remind us why this game is great. Make us laugh. We need your in our community.

Your down to earth and reasonable commentary that accompanies the stories you read really makes you one of my favorite channels. I don't just listen to your videos for the stories. I listen to hear your takes on the story that can help the community learn from their mistakes. It's interesting that you were living in a van when you started your channel because due to similarly too personal to share circumstances I was living in my car when I found your channel right before Covid. All I had was my car and my Uber job. Listening to you really helped keep my head on straight while I drove around. Your content also helps me cope wit the fact that I have no one to play D&D with lol. My grandma bought me 3.5 books when I was a teenager but I never got to use them.. just read them a lot.. then as an Adult I bought a few 5e but I still haven't managed to find anyone to play with unfortunately. Anyways, thank you for all you do for the community. I know the odds of you seeing this are pretty low but if you do I just want you to know how much I appreciate you

Thank you for being vulnerable, transparent, and an all-around genuine crab! I know this OGL issue is causing a lot of people to stray away from D&D, and I'm truly happy that it's allowing people to see other games that aren't D&D, and give some much needed attention to Indie developers, and companies that deserve more attention such as Paizo, Osprey Games, and Free League Publishing. I quit D&D over a year ago now, and finally sold all of my books this past Fall so I could invest in games I truly wanted to play, and I regret nothing. Unfortunately, this is the reason for people quitting D&D, as opposed to just burnout, but maybe this will make WOTC realize that they need D&D, more than D&D needs them

This story hits hard. You came a long way from where you started. For me, the community is what allowed me to actually flourish and have fun. I made great friends, had a creative outlet, but the largest thing is that it allowed me to do is have fun again with a game. I owe a lot to the community, and I am willing to give back to that same community. Stay strong The Voice Actor of The King Crab, we are all in this together.

POPPYCOCK!!! Such nonsense to think that you, the person behind the screen that voices CritCrab, think that you are less interesting than your persona. The truth is that you are what created the concept of CritCrab. You are its creator, and seemingly have more to yourself than meets the eye. I first learned of you when, shocker, I watched JoCat’s Crap Guide to D&D finale. However it wasn’t the first viewing I decided to look you up. Far from it, I was off doing other things. However the more I watch that one video, I began to wonder what made this crustacean so special to be part of this collab with the likes of OSP, Felix and Dingo, Cami-Cat and Davvy Chappy, and FREAKING MATT MERCER. So I then decided to give some of my time to watch your content, and I found it extremely enjoyable. I thought that this “CritCrab” person, whomever they be, was extremely passionate about the things he loves, and wanted to give back to the community he was a part of. That doesn’t sound like anything uninteresting, far from it.
