@@sarpdenizakbyk78 You need to keep your standards and prioritize your own well being. You can't be bearing with disgust and discomfort for the sake of others without saying a word. If you don't prioritize yourself, then who else would? Nice, empathetic people (which do exist and aren't that hard to find) would perfectly understand when something is upsetting for others. If they value you as a player and companion (or they just understand that everyone is a human being with personal feelings), they should accommodate to some exceptions. You see, it personally makes me specially uncomfortable when someone uses the word "useless" to describe someone else, and it kind of triggers me to no end when used on me, so I just politely say so. But I tend to forget about it until it is said. I just let them finish and express my feelings later. Same can be done with anything that makes you understandably uncomfortable. This obviously includes sex themes, gore, anything that can overwhelmingly set you off from having fun. If you as a person are not having fun, the fun of the entire group is also affected. Your individual experience matters as much as the others'. So just be serious about things that are serious to you, and do your best to openly express yourself when some themes are a no-go. In case they ignore you, don't be afraid to leave whenever they start doing something that makes you uncomfortable. You don't need to abandon the group straight away, but with you leaving after expressing your concerns, eventually will make them understand how serious you were, and they will have to decide to adapt or just let you go. Hope it helps.

  • @BlueTressym

    2 жыл бұрын

That's not weird, in fact, I'd call it very insightful. With sex and rape the same physical activity is happening, broadly speaking. The difference between them is consent. What makes rape feel terrible is not just the physical pain it often causes but the feeling of violation, often including a betrayal of trust. For the victim, rape is primarily about that intrusion, that emotional pain, that violation and betrayal so no, you're not in the least wrong to feel as you do. Feeling bad when something so awful happens to someone, regardless of whether it's in a game or not is empathy; it's not weird. These subjects can be done well in a game but it's incredibly difficult and absolutely needs buy-in from everyone.

Exploring themes of sex and sexuality in DND can be very healthy and fun with the right dm and players, which is why I get so offended and angry when I hear about predatory stuff like this. In my 20 odd years of playing DND, I’ve had two campaigns with overt sexual themes. One is the Witchlight campaign I’m playing right now, run by a brilliant DM (a straight guy) who is a fantastic storyteller and actor, able to readily slip in and out of different characters and really make you feel something for his npc’s, romantic or otherwise. My character quite naturally fell for one of his npc’s who they had a ton in common with and an effortless rapport. This element added a lot of narrative heft and engagement for me as a player, and the party got invested in our relationship to the point that my wife’s character was giving mine advice on how to plan a date night, and we went on a mini-quest to find just the right romantic setting. I feel like I should note that this DM takes a “fade to black” approach to sex but will generally throw in some jokey references after the fact. It’s been a ton of fun and super wholesome, some of the warmest feels I’ve had playing dnd. The other game was very different, much less tasteful, but no less fun. The DM was a girl who was super into boys love hentai and generally just a really unapologetically thirsty person. It was me, two of my friends from our high school lacrosse team, and two more female friends, so a relatively even gender split and female DM. We were all horny teens, and the DM was all about our characters getting it on with npcs and each other. One of my friends and I enjoyed what can only be called an epic bromance in real life, which extended to our characters and eventually developed into a super gay romance in game. At the time we were thinking about it as a joke, albeit a joke that the dm lasciviously latched onto, but in the years since I don’t think it’s any surprise that we’ve both come out as bisexual. It was a lot of fun to explore our sexualities in a safe, non-threatening, and undeniably sexy setting. And I remember it fondly. It’s experiences like these that make me so incensed when DM’s and players ignore the consent and comfort of the other people at the table and introduce predatory and exploitative sexual elements to their games. It’s like, ruining what can be a really special thing.

Charisma i would argue isn't a characters physical appearence or sex appeal. Its their force of personality. How can you use words to persuade something? How well can you make a believable lie? Etc. I know some players use charisma as a way to say their character is the hottest thing since fireball. But for me (and porbably many other players) a character can be attractive in say a refrence picture or description but be a terrible liar or not great social graces.

  • @BananaCoder

I, as an 18m, played a female character in a friends game. There were fun moments, e.g. when the party encountered a dire camel on the road that attacked us and everybody thought it was hilarious that it was a "camel ... but DIRE". We had a stop in a tavern and started chugging beers ingame. After we had our first round the DM had us roll CON saves. My character didn't pass the check and the DM said that the character was now drinking completely out of control. When we skipped to the next morning, the DM told my my character passed out last night and next to me there was a fat elf lying in the bed. The fat elf confirmed that he raped my character and the DM rolled if my character got pregnant... I felt really uncomfortable but didn't say anything. I didn't wanna play with that DM again afterwards. It still gives me a little bit of the creeps looking back. PS: At least we got to kill the fat elf and drag his body into the canal to hide it.

I could see the DM was uncomfortable, so I shot him a text saying to either tell the player he was pushing boundaries, or punish the character since it was a one-off battle without any story before or after. Once the player’s Dragonborn tried to use his breath weapon as “electrostim”, the DM finally said the player was forcibly ejected from the cloaca by Tarrasque’s dick, nearly killing him from fall damage, then was finally killed when the Tarrasque ground him into earth with his dick. That eliminates so many candidates and I don’t see a point. (I don’t really care about sex stuff but it feels like if you make an entire being that’s focused on sex, I don’t see why gender is the barrier it’d stop at 🤷‍♀️) #2: Whether or not it’s true, in a creepy situation like this, just say you’re gay. If the DM has even an ounce of respect for you and your character, he has to heed the character’s identity (and if you are actually gay in real life, that’s awesome!). It’s really gross and weird that this happened in the first place though. I was glad to hear she got rid of the baby too. Personally, I would’ve stopped at nothing to remove a child if my DM did that. Hell, I’d even get a knife to tear it out myself if I had to.

Happy pregnant dnd story: I started a game that was suppose to be a short pandemic game, we are now about to fight the BBEG (just so you know how short it turned out to be). Going in I was like "I want to play something goofy, I'll slap all the bard memes into one silly character and just have fun.". She wore special armor (glamour armor) so she could look half naked all the time. she was naive and believed in fairy tales. she loved sex and specifically the idea of doing it with dragons. she jokes and played music at inappropriate times. had terrible Wis and a character trait of "makes bad choices". Just a bards bard who's story revolved around her brother getting stuck in a sword and her running off to find a way to get him out. Well, one of the other player characters was a undead revenant dragonborn cleric who served a god of death. He had no memories at the start of the game and got them back after killing his brother (the one who killed him). so he was fully dedicated to his god and cared for not much else. I heard undead dragonborn and thought "a crush would be funny". It's been the single best romance I've ever had in a game. My character went through development of becoming bitter as she learned being a hero isn't that great, he helped her find faith in the world and people. "Have faith" often being something his god told him. Once while walking together (only session 3 or 4) he mentioned how his god only cared about death being respected and she told him "well, you should enjoy life too". "Have faith, enjoy life" is the moto of the entire campaign because of these two things. They've both developed and grown to such a wild degree and they've just been great together. Getting married, dealing with family drama, finding out he might get to live, both of them figuring out where they want to be in life. Within the last bit of the game (less than a month in game left) she learned she's pregnant. It started as a joke and ultimately we just decided "sure". It's been a great plot point. She has even more of a reason to have faith in what they're doing, he has even more to look forward to in enjoying life. Another player character is the godmother, another is going to be the nanny. It has really helped to pull the story together. The BBEG is a lich wanting undead to take over the world, so a lot of the game's themes have been recovering from death and letting new life come about. So her being pregnant just really puts the whole "let things stay dead so life can happen" out there perfectly. It's honestly one of the best games I've ever been in. Lots of really emotional scenes, poetic story points, and just tons of fun all around. I guys I play with rock and we've all relied on eachother for support when we need it. I'm so glad this "short pandemic game" was anything but. @@wannabehistorian371 he developed through the game. From not caring about anything but his god to actually being willing to disobey his god because of his beliefs in protecting people. The turning point started when my bard was killed in the fight with his brother. They were friends with benefit because he didn't remember much of their time together due to dieing (and being brought back by his god, thus loosing memories. He rolled like a 2 on the Wis save.). But she remembered all their time together so was head over heels for him. In her will ("incase I die" letters) she admitted to being in love with him. He also got all of his memories back because he killed the man that originally killed him. So all their time together and all his feelings for her came flooding back pretty much as soon as she died. Up till this point resurrection magic had not been used because his god opposes it and we knew it would start PvP to do so (pvp was allowed as long as it was agreed and polite). However my back up character, her younger brother, didn't care and brought her back anyways. So while the cleric is grappling with grief over his lover and brother, suddenly the lover isn't dead and his god is demanding he fixes that. The next few sessions they both refuse to talk to eachother. My bard is angry she was brought back because it trapped her brother in the sword again and she would rather be dead than do that. The cleric is ignoring her because his god keeps telling him to kill her. My bard takes the ignoring as him being disgusted with her so it doesn't help her negative feelings around the resurrection. Apparently there was alot of private bargining between him and his god (the DM). Till eventually right before the next big fight he goes "my god will protect us more if you marry me, so will you?". She agrees to the strangest wedding ever and from there has a much better outlook on the resurrection because it git her a husband. From there it became a slippery slope for the cleric. Soon other resurrections happened, good undead were more tolerated, heck we're even allied with a good lich against the BBEG. All things that were 100% off the table in the beginning.

@@wannabehistorian371 it was restored in both characters really. My bard at one pointed hated the phrase "have faith". Going as far as to tell another reaper *(the cleric's order) that she hated such empty platitudes. But over time, and with way more drama, she says it as a motto herself. For the cleric "have faith" shifted from meaning follow his god blindly to having faith in the world. so the change in attitude towards "have faith" is way more obvious in the bard. Heck, a big turning point for my bard was the death of a NPC she was best friends with. At her funeral she left her religious symbol (diffrent god than the cleric) on the pyre and said "my faith burns with you". Over time she came to accept her friend died because of her faith in the world and by letting her faith burn she was spitting in the face of her dead friend. My bard's unborn child has been named after this NPC friend. * There was also a great moment recently with the reaper she told she hated the term "have faith". The original conversation (almost two years ago now) with this NPC was my bard asking "what's the point in having faith if this is how the world is?". He said he didn't have a good answer. The NPC traveled with us and worked as the cleric's right hand man. Within the last 3 sessions we've arrived at the cleric's home and the home of his religious order. We found it attacked by undead so did a lot of work to rally troops. We also did social stuff like my bard meeting her sister-in-law and the right hand man's wife and children. The cleric ultimately took over his religious order and planned to keep the right hand man as a close councillor. We go into this big fight against a horde and a random dice roll kills him. We're all wrecked by this because the right hand man was such a decent guy. He had his whole life laid out too. Well, in his "in case I die" letter to my bard it said something like "I've thought a lot about that question you asked. Everyone should have faith beause of what exsists in the world to have faith for. I have faith for my family, for my friends, and for my god because I love them. I suppose you could say I have faith because I enjoy life.". In other words my DM is a evil genius and the dice are evil too 😭

It's usually middle age people and their children that have them. (many 16y/o from those areas pretend to hunt in order to legally own a gun). Otherwise it's rare to have a license. Nobody in the city owns firearms except for the police. 2) those dialogs in French are HORRIFYING. Op didn't translate exactly what it meant, but it's a lot more degrading than "she's so hot" Etc. "You should be flattered," is just one opinion and a typical belief of someone who makes people feel uncomfortable instead of flattered. "Please don't tell me/people how to feel," is a perfectly valid response to when someone is trying to invalidate responses to their inappropriate actions, regardless of anyone's gender. If the creepiness is from the actual DM, sometimes a reminder that they only control/heavily influence feelings in-game and don't have the same powers outside of it can help to establish clear boundaries. Speaking up because you are bothered by watching someone get creeped on is also valid and very helpful to those who are too shy or uncomfortable themselves to be able to speak up. It isn't mandatory for these boundaries to be set by the person being targeted. If someone is being harassed, having a bystander speak up, especially if there are new players present, is one of the most welcoming things that can be done. It tells people that, "this is a place that takes respect seriously and these people look out for each other," instead of, "this will only be as safe as I am able to keep it and I need to be careful around them."

Forced pregnancy/hookup plotlines are so creepy especially when its clear that its a weird fetish for the DM. I have a similar story but thankfully, I got out of it before it could get very nasty. Basically it was one of my first campaigns and I was playing this badass rogue assassin who was a lesbian. There was a running joke about how random men would hit on my character and like it would be weirdly aggressive but Id just brush it off cuz I was still new to the game and I felt like I would be considered too sensitive or too serious if I brought it up. It was after a few sessions when our DM introduced this one incubus NPC and our gang desperately needed info from him and it was somehow decided that I was gonna be the one to "seduce the info" out of him (cuz haha lesbean tryna hit on a dude) and thats when things started to get kinda weird. The DM was getting really aggressive with the sexual stuff and how I was "entranced by him" and basically took control of MY character and made her sleep with this dude. At this point, Im hella creeped out but I still continue because I thought that this was something that happened. Like maybe it was done to emphasize on how dangerous and horrifying this dude actually is. But still, a heads up wouldve been nice, my guy. (The other players are also uncomfortable at this since Im the youngest at the table but nobody says anything. I later discover that apparently he had assured them that he negotiated with me before the sessions and that I had agreed which was absolute fuckin bullshit) And then he makes me roll for something. He doesn't tell me what it is at first and I get kinda sus so I refuse to roll until he does. After some convincing from me as well the other players, he tells me its a pregnancy roll or something. At this point, Im disgusted and I tell him that Im not going to do that and that Im very uncomfortable with that and this dude keeps weirdly insisting on it. At this, I just Nope tf outta there and abandon the campaign. Thankfully, I've had better DMs who actually ask me about boundaries and everything beforehand and this experience didn't kill off my love for DnD but God, I still can't believe shitheads like these dudes exist.

Honestly this could have been handled so much more tactfully. Assuming the Incubus does some sort of high level charm magic: Let the player roll (multiple times) to save against the effect. If they keep failing, fade to black and they "spend some alone time together" This gives the player the control over how far things went, IF they want to bring it up. And IF the DM wanted to do a "demon abortion questline" and it would fit the general tone of the game, they should talk to that player privately after the session. "Hey, remember that bit where your character spent some time with the incubus? What do you think happened there? Oh so they did go all the way. Listen, I have this storyline idea I wanted to run by you. You know how getting women pregnant is more or less the whole idea of an incubus? Would you be okay with me using that as an adventure hook?" Hint 1: Your campaign is probably perfectly viable without demon rape of a PC. Hint 2: If asking your players a question like that makes you uncomfortbale, you aren't playing that type of game and you should drop it. I have DM'd that kind of spicy game before that included lots of whoring on part of the PCs but also themes of sexual abuse/violence/harassment and I play with mostly the same guys and girls to this day. What made me drop those things wasn't that people got uncomfortable, it simply derails the main story too much in my opinion. Also, I am there to kill some goblins or tell a story, not ERP with my DM/players. That campaign did get me laid though lol.

If you want to let the players feel overcome by wonderful rightous FUUUUURRRRY ! +insert angry paladin SMITEing their evil asses+ Or you just run regular cruelty and murder, that might be completely sufficent. Just don´t turn the Pen&Paper into an japanese rape-battle eroge. Or, at least not without the players consent at session ZERO. And for the dark gods sake, throw a SUCCUBUS at a lesbian, not an INCUBUS. It is not so hard, if you are not a needy creep. Brings me back to my initial statement. Ehem... Hand me my greatsword, please. What ? No, for no particular reason, really +eyes gleaming with MURDER+

It's very hard to get rid of that mentality when it's become such a big part of you, speaking from personal experience. I'm getting a bit better at it, but this is after years and years of therapy and work on myself. Often a consequence of abusive households, which funly enough aren't exclusive to people who are born as women, but men too. I won't deny elements of the socialization of women and how men are taught to act around them are stupid and very unhealthy (ending up in things like young men being significantly more predisposed to violent behavior etc etc.), but I'd really love it if this stopped being talked about as an issue purely specific to the socialization of women, because our entire society downplays abusive behavior.

Not to the same extent of course, but everyone there was uncomfortable, and everyone knew it was weird and fucked up. The other players should have spoken up, instead of just leaving her to fend for herself, and made it clear to the DM in no uncertain terms that his shit wasn't going to be tolerated. I guarantee, one instance of the entire party telling him he was being a dick, and it would have stopped. The first story reminds me vaguely of my first GM. He had a crush on me and it didn't help I'd purposely made my character an "exotic dancer" (the idea of charming my way out of anything was too fun at the time, this has since changed). He had this NPC who was the servant of one of the other players who was clearly infatuated with my character, even though I turned him down multiple times (he even went into a berserker rage because I fell off a chandelier). I ended up drowning my character for unrelated reasons, but I'm glad my current GM isn't like that at all outside of some teasing between the players about their characters.

Man I hadn’t gotten into D&D until recently but I did roleplay with some friends when I was younger(around 12/13). I had a specific friend who I would roleplay alone with and we’d come up with some really fun ideas together(I found this story on an old iPad of mine). At first it was fine and I enjoyed our stories but after a month or two she started acting weird. Any romantic interest I’d take in a character she’d shut down almost immediately with things like “oh, no he’s married” or “he’s gay” and mostly things that would make it impossible to date any of them, even going as far as to make them suddenly extremely horrible people who she would try to “gallantly save” me from. Well one time I decided to go along with one of these story lines. It followed the character(we’ll call her Fiona)’s loneliness and want for love only for her to fall for these guys who were horrible(being unable to steer the story) and that seemed like exactly what she wanted. So after Fiona finds out this guy she liked was gay(again) she ran out of the restaurant with her friend(my roleplaying friend who I’ll call Darci) following close behind only for the two to get stuck in the rain and forced into a nearby inn. Despite me specifying I thought Fiona needed a night alone, she insisted that Darci stay with her in a shared room and what takes place next was incredibly uncomfortable to sit through. There was only one room left with only one bed that Fiona and Darci were forced to share. Already finding the situation a little uncomfortable I tried steering the story to an end by stating Fiona was tired and needed rest and that we could continue the story the next day. But she didn’t want that. Next thing I know Darci is stating she sleeps naked and climbs into the bed. I said okay and good night but sadly that wasn’t the end of it as she starts to describe Darci’s “sensual” touches and things like “you know care a lot about you, maybe you just haven’t been looking in the right places”. Child me was getting very uncomfortable so once again I tried derailing the conversation. This didn’t work and only seemed to fuel whatever my friend wanted because things got extremely heated on her end(things I can’t specify) to the point I flat out yelled at her over the phone to stop. She continued her freaky advances until sending me a message that said “do you accept my love?”. I felt bad at the time but I ghosted her on the spot. I ended up blocking her and leaving all the chats with only a simple “I’m sorry but I don’t really wanna play anymore”. Honestly this is a good chunk of why I kept away from D&D, the idea of this happening again just made me extremely uncomfortable

Hearing these stories about forced pregnancy reminds me of this one story where my Dragonborn Paladin got attacked and "egged" by some Slauds (frog/toad demons who can impregnate others by attacking them with their claws). The other party members, and even the DM I think, made jokes at my expenses with things like "Haha! You're pregnant with Slaud babies!" I was just going to use Lay on Hands on myself to get rid of them, since Slaud eggs counts as a disease, and the party went to say something like "You're going to abort the pregnancy? How dare you!" I left that group after my Dragonborn Paladin got immediately killed by our CN Bard by using a Halberd that immediately kills targets who got Crit by it, after he crit on my character after casting Sleep on him.
