Interesting that they provided optionally positions for 2 physically enormous caps versus the 6 smaller ones - I'm guessing the 6 smaller ones are more cost effective ? Always a pleasure to see old amps brought back to life with such simple repairs

Wish I was clever enough to do things like this. If I was I would build a time machine.

I like the idea that different modules were able to be optioned for the amp. In this case, it looks like this amp wasn't sold with phono input, but MM or MC could have been added at any time. I wish that Yamaha, Denon, Kenwood and co would do the same. Where I live, there are heaps of 5.1 and 7.1 receivers for sale for no more than $20 because they were made before HDMI. If their design had included optional input boards (something like expansion cards in PCs), that functionality could have been added and saved them from the bin. Phono input could have been an upgrade for them too.

Creek were/are a small British manufacturer. Quite nice amps in the main although they do suffer from the usual build quality issues associated with being made by hand in a shed :) I used to own one and it came with Elna caps, so I'm thinking maybe these have been replaced already?

Looks like 8 smaller or 2 large filter caps can be installed in that board.

In answer to your question . Here in the UK . There is a Michael Creek , as in the name Creek , and he is the amplifier designer .

The flexi-tip is installed. It means you can fold the straw down out of the way and spray straight out of the nozzle without removing the straw.

It says optional on the can though, and shows a grey tip?

Damn I thought the foldy thing was a flexi tip. Spray cans are sure complicated these days.

Samewha SD, XC,WC, WB, WD and others known to fail shit caps. But they do seem to have pulled their finger out and don’t fail these days.

They only really fail prematurely in switching power supplies anyway. This is a linear supply so really there's no reason why they should fail in short order.

Was the buzzing coming from the amp itself, or through the speakers? I have a creek evolution that has started loud buzzing on start up. I have no idea what the problem is, or if it is an easy fix for an experienced person.

Who uses 85⁰C capacitors? Panasonic. Some of their audio capacitors are 85⁰C rated. Unless they're next to a heat source or are subject to ripple beyond their specification, I don't see that it's an issue.

The problem with ESR meters is that the comparison tables are always "Absolute maximum rating" never an average rating , what is practically unusable in real life, i don't know on which table do you confidence.
