It's a prison blues song. The "midnight special" was a train that ran past the Sugarland Prison Plantation outside of Houston back in the 1930's. Prison legend had it that if the light of the train shown on a prisoner as it passed by, he would be paroled. This was the inspiration for the original song written by an old blues artist known as Leadbelly.

Interesting that Cash used the same idea to write "Folsum Prison Blues."
This is an old Leadbelly song, which might be an even older song. John Fogerty is restless. CCR actually released three (3) full albums in one year. He told the band that it was their time, and if they let up they’d be forgotten. He lives somewhere in Northern California, and when Covid hit and his family was locked down, he formed a band with his kids, and they released videos of old Creedence songs, and he told stories about creating them. It was good and fun. He’s still touring. Looks and sounds the same.
This is a folk song from the American South - the earliest recordings are from the mid 1920s, but the song is probably older. The lyrics on the very early versions were rather variable and these lyrics date from Leadbelly's 1936 version.
John Fogerty (the guy on the right) was the lead singer, songwriter, and guitarist for CCR. Since the breakup of CCR, John has had quite a solo career. Those too are worth reacting to when you are ready! I think you would enjoy reacting to: Proud Mary, Born on the Bayou, or Have You Ever Seen The Rain? I am also partial to: Green River.
John Fogarty is the lead singer. One of the great voices of rock. This song was used as the theme song for the TV show The Midnight Special that you have shown various videos from for other groups. Let Dee hear Fortunate Son or Lookin Out My Back Door or Proud Mary or Born on the Bayou. All 🔥
I think it's interesting how some rock bands become successful and inspire others to create similar and great music. But every once in a while there's a band who somehow remain unique. As successful as Creedence was, no other band that I've ever heard has a sound anything like their sound. I like this track a lot. The guitar work is so atmospheric that it meshes perfectly with the vocals.
Fortunate Son, Born on the bayou, Proud Mary, Green River, I Put a Spell On You
The guy on the far right sang lead vocals and played lead guitar, wrote all their music, John Fogerty, his brother Tom, 2nd from left played rhythm guitar
"Ramble Tamble" is a CCR rocker classic that most don't know about. "Pagan Baby" and "Born to Move" are 2 others I'd recommend.

Good suggestions. A band has to play all the time to get that tight. “Effigy”? No one does any of those. Some one should.

@@lathedauphinot6820 effigy is one of their best IMO. Definitely deserves more love
*Guys* one more comment, gotta do it.... So from an "Old Head" that's me here's 2 pertinent facts on this. 1st, the lead singer is John Fogerty and he is on the far right of the picture, fyi... Most importantly, the *original* significance of The Midnight Special was chain gang workers, sleeping in their cots in their sheds and the train would swing by and allow them to dream about being carried far away from the misery of their existence and where they found themselves. Allowing them to dream & wonder where it was going, wishing they were on it, etc. OK.... nuff said. Have a significant day U 2.. *David* .....
Always loved this song. And CCR is a national musical treasure. FYI, Andy Griffith does an interesting version on an old episode of the Andy Griffith show.
“Susie Q is definitely a 10! See if you hear the haunting ghosts singing! Thx!
My first garage band formed in '68 covered alot of CCR. My favorite song they did is Fortunate Son.
"Born On The Bayou" and "Proud Mary" is next for her!!
In the picture that you guys wete lokking at, the guy on the right is John Fogherty. He sings lead and plays guitar. Show her Heard It Through The Grapevine, Fortunate Son, Run Through the Jungle, Born on the Bayou, Down on the Corner, Green River. These should give her the full CCR experience.
Credence is one of those bands that sounds every bit as good today as they did fifty years ago! And thanks to John Fogerty's unique voice, and the bands swampy sound, you can never mistake them for anyone else.
*Chod* twas wondering when you were gonna intro *Dee* to Credence.! Another DEEP catalog from an *ICONIC* American band of The Woodstock era.! Swamp music extraordinaire, primarily driven by John Fogerty from California with an intense imagination.! So cool.! Tis the beauty of good music as it can be *endlessly repurposed* for memories, generations, etc. Nice one dude.! *David* Oh and this was done in the late 30's I believe by a blues god *Leadbelly* ! Not sure if he wrote it but I believe it's the oldest recorded version....
John is an excellent song writer and guitar player. Check out Born on the Bayou
An old spiritual. I believe the Midnight Special is a train that can take slaves or prisoners to freedom. Miss Rosie is bringing a paper for the "guvner" to set her man free.
Grew up on ccr. This is ,for me,about the best one they did.but thats hard to say cause i lov them all soo much. 1 rst heard ccr doing -bad moon rising in june of ‘69. Went out and got the single..a (45) for .79 cents. My brother had everything they did. John was still singing about 2 yrs ago .. well into his 70s classic 70s band. Sounds of my youth. Thats now over 50 yrs ago and i still. Lov them. Hugh talent.johns voice, playing, writing. Triple threat. Glad you found ccr.-dan,north fl-3/25/22
The guy on the end is John Fogerty. Lead singer, lead guitarist, harmonica player and main song writer. Leadbelly wrote this song. The guy with long blond hair is John's older brother Tom who left the band early on.
Long As I Can See The Light, Lodi and Someday Never Comes!
I would go with "Heard it Through the Grapevine." That's a 10. The Marvin Gaye version is also a 10.
Centerfield. Best baseball song ever. React just in time for opening day.
These guys bring it! One of the best in the day. Fire up the album, they’re all good jams! #1 crusin’ band in my ride.
Ahahah... Irresistible beat & groove 😁your wife reaction says it all... first started with a smile, then the head starts moving ... by the 2nd half of the song, she's already "grooving with the beat... That's the CCR magic. ☯️✌
You should introduce her to CCR's version of I PUT A SPELL ON YOU.

The full version though, not the radio edit.
I'd choose "Born on the Bayou" for blues based swamp rock or "Up Around the Bend" for a fun cheerful song. "Lodi" is a favorite that I can't recall seeing on any other reaction channel.
Isn't all music repetitive to some degree? Songs like this are meant to be sung along with, and the fun is just enjoying belting out that great refrain. CCR's cover is by far the best version of this song.
My favorite CCR song is “Someday Never Comes”. You should give it a listen, you won’t be disappointed.
The short one on the right end with the bangs is Lead Singer, Guitarist and Song Writer John Fogarty, who has many hits on his own once CCR broke up.
The lead singeer is John Fogerty, far right. I have tickets to see him in July
The fellow on the far right is John Fogerty, the leader , lead vocalist lead guitarist and writer for CCR.
Midnight Special makes us happy!!!
One of their best.
I'd go with Born on the Bayou or Fortunate Son to give Dee a taste of CCR crankin it up!
I absolutely love these guys. You can never go wrong with CCR 🌺✌️
Love CCR and this song especially...
Wilburn try some live music from CCR, Midnight Special at The Royal Albert Hall (London april 1970) by example would really let you and your wife hear how damn well this band played together. By the way there is a DVD from this concert on it's way......They open with Born on the Bayou.....

@@topgazza Great to hear...
Written by Bluesman Huddie William Ledbetter (AKA Leadbelly) 1888-1949. There are scratchy old recordings of just him and his guitar out there online. I suggest you check it out. Another great Leadbelly song is "Where did you sleep last night.". You may find both worth listening to.
Fogerty- what a legend!
Here's another throwback that I think you and your wife Dee would enjoy, if interested. "Commodores - Nightshift (Live)" by the Channel: "The Commodores"
John Fogerty is touring and is going to be in Winnipeg, Manitoba Canada in July.
My favorite CCR song!!
AMERICANA! At its best...👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏😎
Love your Cheshire cat smile Chad!
Thank You! A favorite from them.
It was just a standard song structure, as far as the repetition, i.e., verse, chorus, verse, chorus, with the same chorus repeating itself following each different verse. Many Beatles' songs as well as rock songs generally used that formula.
Just an amazing version. Really love those changes.
The guys are from left to right, Doug Clifford, Tom Fogerty, Stu Cook and John Fogerty ... John is the lead singer ! His brother Tom, died in 1990 !
Such good "soul" music. Thank you!
First songs that comes to mind as a favorites are Suzie Q , I heard it Through the Grape Vine , and Born on the Biyou
BEST CCR EVER, I PUT A SPELL ON YOU OFFICIAL VEDIO 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥💯
This has to be loud.....1970, driving around Melbourne, Victoria, in Oz, windows down and CCR blasting...nothing better lol
Best ccr song!!!!

Great reaction and song Please do UP AROUND THE BEND and SWEET HITCH HIKER by CCR !!
He's singing about being in jail. He hears the train go by at night (The Midnight Special). Miss Rosy is going to see the governor to get him free (her man).
It's a work song - something a group of prisoners on a chain gang can repeat to the beat of their hammers all day.
Oh I love this song, but every time I hear it , it brings back the "Scary scene" from the movie, The Twilight Zone :)
Well, you wake up in the mornin', you hear the work bell ring And they march you to the table to see the same old thing Ain't no food upon the table, and no pork up in the pan But you better not complain, boy, you get in trouble with the man he is talking about prison then the woman come to see the Governor she wants to free her man if your ever in Houston you better do right or the Sherriff will grab ya and the boys{ deputy's } will bring you down and next thing you know you are prison bound
John Fogerty is the lead singer. I believe you reached to my favorite song of theirs I put a Spell on You which was live. The Night Time is the Right Time is 🔥 Fire live on Ed Sullivan, none get blocked there as of now.
I'm sure the lead vocalist was John Fogarty > to the outer - the one without facial hair. :-)
Story I heard. The midnight special was the go home train when you are released from prison.
Not the one in the middle, the one on the right. I Put A Spell On You by CCR is definitely more representative
Favorite CCR song
Not the usual explanation, but to me this always fit into the genre/trope of Gonna Lay My Head On the tracks and Let the Midnight Special Ease My Worried Mind kinda thing
John Fogerty (lead) is the guy on the end with his bangs cut straight across his forehead. I commented before JC was mistaken for a girl. LOL.
don't foget JOn Fogerty is still writing music, he did write all the songs for CCR CCR's musical style encompassed roots rock, swamp rock, blues rock] Southern rock, country rock and blue-eyed soul
Waooo!!!....Congratulations my friends!! ...If you decide to react to famous singers videos in the future, here you have your best gift of your life!!....Today it is very difficult to find reactors like you who have never reacted to the best singer in the world, Dimash Kudaibergen, who has 7 octaves and 3 semitones vocal range (An alien) ... Maybe someone made you a request to react to Dimash, but you have not had time .... I am going to dare to recommend that you meet Dimash, because when you do it for the first time, your life as reactor will change forever ....For example, the number of views that you have today, it will increase by 300% in a matter of a few hours and you will get a lot of new subscribers.....But when you react to Dimash, don't do it with his most recent songs ... I recommend that you go to the year 2017 and react to the song that made him a global idol ... I mean the performance he did Dimash from the famous French song called "SOS D'un Terrien en Détresse", when he participated in the famous Chinese reality show The Singer in that year 2017 ... With that performance Dimash earned the reputation of being the best singer on the planet, so I recommend you start with that one.... You can also start with the other famous live version of that song that Dimash did the following year 2018 when he was invited to the famous Slavic Bazzar festival in Belarus .... Both performances are from another planet...And I have to give you a warning: Never react to The World Best videos, because they suck!...Your life will never be the same again, after reacting for the first time to Dimash...And your first reaction to Dimash will be something very special, so I recommend that you do the best job of your life as a reactor, because that first video will be seen by thousands of people around the world, maybe millions...I hope to see you first reaction soon and if you don't mind, I'd like you to mention me as the person who recommended reacting to Dimash....Here you have the best high quality video of Dimash performing S.O.S. Live 2017.....kzread.info/dash/bejne/lHiMlaihndy0kcY.html
This was a cover of an really old folk song; I think it's about being in prison. It may of even been written by prisoners.
Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but this is about inmates in prison. When they are marched to the table and they see the same old thing...ain't no food upon the table, ain't to pork up in the pan, and compaining gets you in trouble with the man (the 'governor"). Miss Rosie's piece of paper is some form of a petition for a pardon.
For your wife you must give a listen to Jennifer Warnes duet with Leonard Cohen, Leonard’s song Joan Of Arc, then after her version of First We Take Manhattan.
My fav is It Came Out Of The Sky
When will you be introducing your wife to the Allman Brothers band??? I'd love to see her react to whipping post!!!
First came the song, then came the TV show, much later.
Hi, it was the guy on the right in the picture John Forgethy
The one on the far right, John Fogerty is the lead singer. Yes, I think The Midnight Special was a train.
Great hits all within less than 3 years and then poof they broke up. Family and friends no more!
The one on your right, John Fogarty is singing.
It's the one on the right end. John Foggerty. When you hear his voice you know it's CCR. You should react to John foggerty himself.
John Forgerty! Like Bob Seger! Legendary!
Play “Dint look now” from their Oakland concert
Green River is a great song of CCR.
I have watched a lot of reactions to this song, and have been really surprised that not a single African-American reactor has caught the fact that this is a (traditional) story of a victim of the Jim Crowe South, taken up for a minor crime by the Sheriffs and sentenced to a work-gang. He is hoping the Midnight Special (a night train that ran by the prison) shines its miraculous light on him and his girl can talk the governor into releasing him. The gospel sound on this version is an intentional reference to the historical context of the song. I wonder if some reactors are (understandably) choosing to avoid comments that might alienate viewers.
Check out "Travelin Band" Keep up the great music and reactions!
Run through the jungle,CCR
I enjoy you together with your wife. One song I don’t think you have reacted to yet and which is a unique yet fantastic version, is the song “summertime” from Billy Stewart. The video quality is poor due to age, however there is a version with HQ audio.
A couple more by CCR that weren't the usual are Molina and It came out of the sky
I thought Leadbelly intended it to mean release from imprisonment 'jail' and free to walk into the night under the stars and have the train light shine on oneself?
Born on the Bayou is a 10 But grapevine is a 20
Heard it through the Grapevine is a10 but it MUST be the long version where there is no singing but them jamming it at the end.
I was going to say, imagine that little guy in the corner being the voice behind this band. As well as the lead guitar. That's John Fogerty, lead guitar and vocals on the far right. A rock legend. Please check out Suzie Q for some fun, or Long As I Can See the Light for some downhome goodness.
Not the guy in the middle. The beardless guy on the end sang lead.
(Class of 71) FortSill Indian School,Lawton, okla.
This is a suicidale Song, written by Hudie Ledbetter, he got the original wersion.
☮️💜
Another reactor managed to get a live version of Out My Backdoor without getting blocked
My favorite is of theirs is "Have You Ever Seen the Rain", but it is slow pace. But since you have one in mind, you should just go with that. I also have a suggestion for one of John Fogerty's favorite songs. I have to get the links.
I think here's a couple of tens. The first one is CCR at Woodstock 1969. The lighting is bad because they came on around midnight: Creedence Clearwater Revival - I Put A Spell On You kzread.info/dash/bejne/qpmM09azpdavhZM.html (AND) Creedence Clearwater Revival - Night time is the right time kzread.info/dash/bejne/gKacmqiAkaXPqag.html
