John Fogarty could sing the phone book, and it would sound good. He is a National Treasure. I love Creedence.
I love their eight minute version of this song. Even after eight minutes, you don't want the song to end.
I am a huge, Marvin Gaye fan, however, the rock edge that CCR gave this song is undeniable and iconic.

Yes, John Fogerty had his own flavor and really flavored up this song. To compare them isn't really fair to Marvin Gaye or Gladys Knight or CCR. Sort of like different flavors of ice cream ya know. Have a wonderful blessed day

@@finallythere100 This is good, but I love Marvin Gaye's version. It is at the opening of the movie "The Big Chill".
Got to do CCR’s real version about 11 minutes long, you’ll see!
CCR recorded this in 1970. In 1986 this song was adapted for a California raisin commercial. Still to this day every time I hear this I picture those purple grapes dancing to this tune.
Not only were the vocals killer. The instrumentals was sheer brilliance.
The unedited version is amazing. It was too long for the radio, so they cut it down.
One of the most infectious rythyms ever. A bit of a rock/country spin on one of the most iconic songs in the Motown catalog
Hard to mess this song up, but to make it shine is special
Everything CCR did was phenomenal. That’s why their music is played to this day.
John Fogerty is an American treasure, along with Marvin Gaye and Gladys Knight, bold cover song choice for CCR and they knock it out of the park
Can’t get enough of that funky stuff ….,CCR forever !!
You need to hear the extended version of CCR doing this. The guitar work John does throughout the long version is fantastic!
John's voice, was one of a king, & truly transcended genre's 😊
CCR has an unusual combination of qualities. They can do totally different types of music, with very different styles and tempos, yet it is always unmistakable as CCR! A lot of the distictiveness is John Fogerty's unique voice. Perhaps the most distinctive voice in Rock. Fogerty's singing is filled with emotion, sadness, anger, regret, and he can catch you by surprize, forcing you to think about the lyrics. Love Fogerty's high notes, snarls, wails, always done with integrity.

GOTTA do CCR’s original “Proud Mary” as a follow up to this! Legends!
Aww you missed the extended version that one's fire!
It was first recorded by Gladys Night and the Pips, followed by Marvin Gaye who had a hit with it on the R&B charts. CCR's version is actually 11 minutes long but edited down for radio. They had a hit with it on the Billboard Hot 100
A garage band from northern California if you can believe that!! I hope you listen to more of their music it's the best!!

They sound Cajun. ( Louisiana)
You should listen to the full version of this. This was the radio edit, but the extended version has killer guitar and overall instrumentation. It’s awesome.
John Fogerty has always been authentic in his delivery of his voice, like he does with down on the Bayou and the guitar solo was spot on.
As a solid Classic R&B fan, CCR's version of this banger is simply the best. Peace Out 😊✌️
creedence is probably the most underappreciated and underrated 60s band. they had hit after hit. including the standards "proud mary" and "fortunate son." the critics hated them but the public loved them. they appeared at woodstock too. (cut out of the film and the album though. as a few other bands were.) on the album "cosmos factory" (1970) this song was over 11 minutes long. with a wonderful, kick ass guitar solo that lasts about 8 minutes long. the record label shortened the song to about 3 1/2 minutes and released it as a single against the band's wishes. CCR remains one of my favorite bands. side two of their album "bayou country" is one of the best album sides in r&r history.

@@kennethohnemus3192 ... its hard to believe that CCR was originally a part of the great san francisco musical renaissance of 1967. they were so different than those other bands. i'll always love "the dead," "jefferson airplane," janis joplin, 'moby grape" and others from that region and era but CCR offered a direction different from the others that made them stand out. did they invent "country rock?" they don't even get credit for that.

@@svenrb... yep. the format pop songs fall into. which is why i only listened to fm radio while growing up. it was geared towards a more mature listener and a less commercial content. i discovered long ago that most good songs were on albums and never released as singles. not today. it seems american culture has reverted back to promoting immaturity and corporate commercialism. thanks to the corporate take over of the internet commercialism has corrupted EVERYTHING! and the sad part most people today praise and embrace this mass psychosis.
and you were worried that they wouldn’t bring it lol ❤
You MUST hear the full long version! His guitar solo is about 5x's longer and he plays everything that could be played on this song and then some. The entire solo belongs in it and sounds perfectly in the song!
The best version period, no disrespect to Marvin I've always been a fan of his he's one of the all time greats period, but you can't get enough of this version. My opinion everyone
BRO, that was the SHORT version. You've gotta hear the full jam! And it's A JAM SESSION!! 🔥🤘🏽🔥🤘🏽🔥🤘🏽
Iconic artists doing an iconic song…never will get old, this version is 🔥 too!
CCR is just plain good! You said it all. Another great reaction.
CCR was my group when I was a teenager. I love this version!
Marvin's version has always been my favorite, but CCR put it in a whole different category. I love it when you sing along, btw. Your reactions bring new information every time.
Brothers and sisters. Give this young man the best Music. John Forgerty Legendary ✌️🪴🌴
Dude welcome to the rabbit hole that is CCR they have an entire album of greatest hits that you would never skip a song and one you might recognize would be I put a Spell on you
When you said ' Wonder if they can do it justice?' I laughed to myself. Knowing what a blast you were about to hear. When I was a young nurse living in the nurse's home I used to love to play CCR in my room before I began day duty. Often it was this song, especially when my personal life was aligned to it and I had, hmmm 2 boyfriends and had to let one go. There was drama :(
Aww man, they cut it short, they played for at least another 8-10 minutes
Gotta play their longer version of this song.
The long version is great! They way he keeps coming back in with a new verse is really fun. Does not get old! CCR's single was not released when the album came out. It was released 6 years later, after radio had been playing it for years. I think everyone already had it on the album by the time it was released as a single.
CCR is amazing-the heavy bassline, the other guitars, the drummer, John Fogerty's (lead singer) voice-incredible! Loved your reaction! Hope you give a listen to their version of I Put A Spell On You. Be sure to view the one when John is wearing the blue shirt. Incredible!
That's the cut back version for radio play. They actually jam for several more minutes, maybe even 6 or 8.
Hey Brother, thanks for the history! I believe these boys have served justice 😉 Spread the love 🐶😎🇺🇸
This was my favorite band when I was 7. They ran from 1968 to 1972 and we're releasing a new hit song, with another hit on the 'B' side. I'd say they had between 15 to 20 top 40 hits in their time.
In 1970 I was 16 when they put this song out. The version you’re listening to is the short version. Fogerty does an extended guitar solo on the long version.
It's a good enough song that it was released by 3 major artists/groups within one year.
Listen to the extended version. Phenomenal ❤
In his autobiography John Fogerty wrote he was shopping for clothes and heard Marvin Gaye's version on the radio and knew he could turn it into a guitar jam.
John is still out there doing it and sounding great. One of the few artists who played Woodstock in '69 who you can still catch in concert if you're lucky enough. Caught him a couple years ago on a double bill with ZZ Top, and he has not lost a thing over the years.
Great song by all. I love Long as I an see the light.........among others...
CCR’s version is my personal favorite. Much love and respect ❤️
John Fogertys Voice is otherworldly! ❤️
Your reaction to the first bars was priceless..love this version, too!
I love to hear praise for John. It's always sweet music to my ears. Thank you for that. He's literally the most lovely and sweet man in the world to me. I adore the way he sounds! I could say more but you probably get the idea. He's just every wonderful and beautiful thing in the world to me. I'm glad you did this video.
The videoclip was made at the rehearsel studio from CCR: Cosmo's Factory during a party for the release of.....Cosmo's Factory their 5th studio album. A pity you didn't choose the 11.05 LP version
There is another rendition with a second solo guitar; I have it on a greatest CCR hits cd
This the best version.
in my opinion, the reason CCR's version is so good is because-while it's undoubtedly CCR-they stayed true to the song.

Like he said if it ain't broke don't fix it.
I really love the Marvin Gay version, though the CCR version feels like its their own song. I think the classic Motown versions emphasize the catchy hook of the song, so you can sing it while walking down the street. Marvin's version is particularly emotional, filled with sadness. The CCR version has a very different, much darker feel. The rhythm section is very brooding and tense, and the vocals barely contain his anger. I picture the guy sitting in a dark room with a shotgun!
All versions of this song are superb and differ enough from each other to make for a refreshing listening experience. Great reaction from you.
You should of did the longer version of the song it is a show stopper.,
........... I must say, their version is #1. The harmonies with a lower voice in background really set it off right.... then the savage guitar solo puts it on another level.
Yep, I bought this CCR album when it came out & when I saw this tune on it I thought WTH. Then I listened to it.... CCR did a lot of original music & also covered a lot of then already classic tunes & very well. Another classic by CCR is "I Put A Spell On You" by Screamin' Jay Hawkins.
I listened to your entire into talk about the song with a giant smile on my face because I knew how much you were going to like it. This is one of the very very few, if not only, covers of a truly great song that may be the best version of all.
Love how you're just sitting there on your chair, wrapped in a blanket giving us these great reviews!💞✌️
Rocking to the CCR beat. Nice to see you enjoy it. 😊
CCR owned everything they sang! Even their B-sides were hits!
Its an amazing cover, this vid cut it down and that solo continues for another few minutes and they all kill it the whole time
He made that guitar bark! Awesome job!
I TOTALLY AGREE WITH EVERYTHING YOU SAID
CCR they are classic and they can play and sing .so many good songs.YeH they Rock
One of the most iconic in all of Motown history
Have to say, this one of the best covers! 😎🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

There is two generations in my family who love CCR me and my son they their music is great try some more of their music still got their music went we are out in the car CCR is playing today. I love this song whoever sing it.
John is so underrated as a singer and guitarist! His voice is so unique, you recognize it instantly
This version is amazing. Rare Earth doing Get Ready is a remake that tmgit took to a whole new level as well.
still, by far, my fave version! ♥
That's some funk and soul all mixed together. It all adds up to CCR😎😥😋😂♤♡◇♧
I heard John Fogerty perform this song in San Francisco at the Bill Graham Memorial concert in 1991 with The Grateful Dead playing back up.
There is an 11 minute version of this song by CCR. I was blessed because I grew up listening to all three artists' version. 😊
Good one, and a great assessment / reaction too.
You do such a great job of giving us background history along with great reactions. Thank you!
It's not the song being impossible to screw up, it that ccr was just that good!
Dude, going thru the research prior to the reaction is special don’t stop. Great reaction!
I love them! Every song they ever recorded is Fire!🔥
I agree with you about Johns voice! You should alai check out I put a spell on you by ccr. Great reaction and info about the song. I always thought I'd never like anyone else's version but Marvin gayes, but I love ccrs.
They all did it GREAT
LoveCCR❤
Remember back in the eighties everyone called the "The RAISIN Song", lol
I just found your channel and I love your reaction. I feel you talking directly to me. I even andwer and talk to you out loud It's cool. After 45 years my wife dont pay attention to what I do anyway, anymore. You are spot on as this version was the first verson I heard back when it was released and this is my favorite.
YEAH 👍🏼 John Fogerty is a Legendary singer if you ask a Swedish person .. hi have a gig here in sweden 5 - 6 juni a tribute to CCR ❤️🇸🇪❤️🇺🇲❤️🇸🇪❤️
Good history. Thank you
If I have to choose, I always listen to the 11 minute version of CCR's Grapevine. The shorter, radio version seems incomplete by comparison. One of my favorite CCR songs.
How did I miss your reaction to this! Much love brother, hope all is well for you and yours ❤
Truly great bands/singers will make the song their own while staying true to the original.
Such a sublime song.
They do it pretty good!!
You should listen to the extended version of this by Creedence for an ultimate Jam
Great song.Nuff said.
My brother, you MUST listen to the FULL version with the extended guitar solo. Not a wasted note!
CCR is a great band, so many good tunes.
