I love watching you find the origin of a song! I'm a Blues fan to the core of my soul. I'm also the strangest CCR fan ever. They obviously sang Delta Blues and did it so well, their music will endure forever...but they're from California and that's so weird! (How do they know how we grew up and felt about it? How do they understand Blackwater and paddle-wheelers and porch sittin?) I grew up with ccr and it still seems odd lol. They did so many "swamp songs" in a time when only us swamp folk understood it that, in the Rock genre, they're still the best that ever did it.

CCR single-handedly invented what was called "swamp rock". It was a taut, which had elements of white country and southern white funk distilled into energetic three-minute singles. He and his group were inspired by the "redneck bluecollar country" and black " funk and soul" music of the time. Like Elvis...he took what he liked from both sides and mixed it. His parents were from the rural midwest, and Montana- he was born in Southwest Cali, but he immersed himself in southern artists growing up.

The train that provided the title of this song got its name because it departed Jackson, Mississippi at 12:05 a.m. on Sunday mornings, arriving at Parchman Prison, 130 miles to the north, at dawn. The prison, also known as Parchman Farm (or more formally, Mississippi State Prison), was on thousands of acres of land, where the inmates did hard labor. While they worked, they would sometimes sing about the Midnight Special, which brought visits from friends and family, so for conjugal visits, the first of their kind.

CCR's music will survive long after cockroaches are gone. "Timeless" was made to describe what the boys put down on tape. Its hard to describe, but absolutely unmistakable. 4 men in total unity playing the simplest music to the highest effect. Fogerty's voice is, of course, peerless, but Stu and Doug may be the best rhythm section rock ever saw and they are soooo central to the sound.

I never realized this was originally CCRs song! Even tho I grew up knowing both versions 🤷🏻‍♀️ The lyrics make more sense coming from a man.

Yep! John Fogerty wrote this song. Ike and Tina had a hit with it way back when👍

Great song. Thanks for the reaction. John Fogerty went on to have a solo career. “Rock and Roll Girls” and “Centerfield” off the album Centerfield are very cool pieces.

Look at this way, a great cover of a great song is about making it your own while keeping close to the classic... ike and Tina did just that, they threw a RnB flavor into swamp rock... just like CCR threw the swamp rock flavor into Marvin Gayes classic Heard it through the Grapevive.... good music is good music... enjoy your journey!!!
