Singer, Songwriter, Lead guitarist John Fogerty captured magic in a bottle back then and wrote hit after hit. The band only lasted a few years but they were as good as anybody in that late sixties/early seventies explosion of sound.

Green River is about songwriter/bandleader/singer/lead guitarist John Fogerty's memories of Putah Creek, near Winters, California. It was a favorite vacation spot of his when he was growing up. Creedence Clearwater Revival sounds like a southern band, and their style is called "swamp rock," but they were all from the San Francisco Bay Area. Three of the four members went to El Cerrito High School, across the bay from San Francisco. CCR was a hit machine for a little over three years, when the band broke up because of management and creative differences. Some of their best songs include: Proud Mary Bad Moon Rising Down on the Corner Fortunate Son Who'll Stop the Rain Up Around the Bend Run Through the Jungle Lookin' Out My Back Door Have You Ever Seen the Rain Lodi I Heard It Through the Grapevine Cotton Fields The Midnight Special A lot of people think Proud Mary is an Ike and Tina Turner song, but John Fogerty wrote it, and CCR recorded it first.

CCR truly were an American band with a purely American sound. They actively opposed (in compositions) the British invasion, which had a strong following, I myself loved it (born in 1952). They showed the other side of the coin so to say. Of course they weren't the only major American bands (Chuck Berry, Beach Boys, Lovin Spoonful, Young Rascals, Temptations, Booker T & the MGs, etc. come to mind), but they had a unique multi platinum sound. Between Britain & America there was a great convergence of talented ideas & we can still be grateful they recorded all this music. I'm glad to see so many listeners are finding gems that I grew up with.

Yet another killer reaction from you guys!! CCR is a very deep rabbit hole of some of the greatest music of my much younger days. The sound is very distinctive from the guitar riffs to John Fogerty's voice, who is now 78 and still touring. You might think they are Southern boys since so much of their music focuses on "swamp rock"....but no, they're California boys. Thank you so very much for reminding us of this outstanding music!

Fogerty is an incredible singer/songwriter/musician. The man can write songs in his sleep! Their songs are short compared to a lot of others, but he can say more in three minutes than most artists can say in a whole album! Proficient artist. Plenty of great songs to enjoy. You can't go wrong with CCR.

Yes Dominica, you are so cute without even trying! You're a lucky man Andre! CCR broke my heart when they broke up, "Cosmo's Factory" was the first LP I bought way back when. CCR outsold the Beatles (well, it was near the end of the Beatles reign). "Fortunate Song" is a very famous war protest song. And I personally love "It Came Out of the Sky" funny with some mentions of American historical figures. There are a LOT of great CCR songs.

This brought back the memories, my wife who is from Finland loves CCR. We were driving to northern California from the bay area. I saw the Winters turn off and said lets have some breakfast Luckily, we got a seat overlooking the green river! I said wow look at that river. She said what river? I said that green river. She said that is not a river. I said, "It is if you are CCR!" . Good laugh. Another CCR song I can relate to is Lodi! Central valley is F'n hot.
