Create a Realistic Shadow for Objects in GIMP
In this GIMP Photo Manipulation tutorial I show you how to add realistic shadows to objects! I also show you (briefly) how to remove a background from an object, as well as how to create a realistic backdrop or wall using some easy shading and lighting tricks.
0:00 - Intro & Resources
0:57 - Import & Transform Image
2:10 - Erase Image Background
3:25 - Reposition Object
4:13 - Add Object Shadow
5:26 - Blur Shadow
5:43 - Add Perspective
7:55 - Fade Out Shadow
9:08 - Add Focus Blur
9:50 - Adjust Colors & Lighting
11:47 - Create Realistic Backdrop
12:34 - Final Thoughts
I use the handy 3D transform tool, along with some background removal, selection, and painting techniques to achieve this effect.

Best channel to learn about GIMP
Excellent tutorial as usual Mike! This has so many possible uses, and will go a long way in adding realism to edits
Wow, so glad I found this, excellent delivery! I'll refer to this for use of the foreground select tool for sure.
Here is a quicker way to do the steps at 4:13 - 5:43 minute mark. Alpha to selection >> invert selection. Filters >>Light and Shadow>> Drop Shadow (Legacy), uncheck "Allow resizing" then set your opacity between 60% and 100% and set blur radius less than 10.
Muy útil. De ahora en adelante podré hacer las sombras mucho más reales. Gracias por el tutorial. Thank you !!
This is amazing and surprisingly not difficult, with your guidance! Thanks so much!

Dave can u show more tutorial videos of shadowing like professionals
really specific tutorial request but can you make a video on how to blend 2 cars together? I'm making a background for my desktop and I've managed to color match the 2 cars together but there is a hard line in the middle of them. the hard part about this is that I need to blend everything together like the grill and stuff. hopefully this makes sense so you can try it out for yourself. idk if you accept request but this would help me out a ton since I cant seem to find anything about it on yt.
How you make gimp icons big?
Thank you, I watch some of the video and I appreciate learning from you about the shadow, if I have a problem with the image I'm creating which is the quick as way to contact you - (I subcribed)
Who needs Photoshop now?
layer > crop to content layer > crop to image select > sharpen
This would be easier and have better results by doing it in Blender.
Filtrs ☺ shadow
You need to slow down
