To those that care, this is still relevant in 2024. I needed to remove something from the background of an image and the Resynthesizer Plugin was exactly what I needed. His website directions were clear and concise on how to find the plugin. I really appreciate your hard work and effort sir.

Brilliant! Use of the move tool to remove the shadow is something I never thought of. Question: would the use of the heal tool along with wavelet-decompose be good for removing a tattoo, from an arm or a back? Thanks for posting!

Great tutorials. what I am looking for is a plug in like the old Topaz Simplfy so that I can take out all details of a portrait that I can then use as stencil for my airbrushing. Any help would br very much appreciated.

In these tutorials they never go over what can go wrong or why it may not work. For me the heal and clone tools work sometimes and other times I have to select the area I want to use them on otherwise nothing happens when I try to go over the area. When I try to heal an area sometimes it works perfectly but a lot of the time it changes the area to a weird color or deletes everything and leaves the area distorted. I do love these tutorials there is always great information and most of the time his directions work. I just wish I knew what I was doing wrong.

Resynthesizer never worked on my computer. Said it was active, then when u try to use heal select, it says program path not found

Ray Pearse 18 minutes ago Hi hope you can help I'm using 2.10.22 version. When using Clone tool I only get about 50% opacity despite having slider at maximum opacity along with force and hardness. If clicked repeatedly in one place it becomes opaque in increments of about 4 times. Tried reinstall no change

Hi. I was trying to use the resynthesizer but I keep getting error messages, saying that the proesedure could not be found. I have followed every step from your tutorial on downloading the resynthesizer. I am using a 2019 macbook air.

Can you please explain how did that layer mask work to remove the black shadow??...I am beginner and I was able to understand the b&w layer mask... But this layer mask is bit confusing... Very helpful video btw... Thank you...

I didn't watch the whole video yet but I can tell you what a layer mask does. A layer mask is an extra layer added to the image layer you're working with. It give you the posability to add transparency that easely can be undone. Compaire it with a windows as you please. Black blocks the view on the other layer so the top layer is visible. White (clear glass) gives you a view on the later beneeth the glass. If you use gray, half of the pixels will get blocked. Hope this will help you. I learned this on his Udemy masterclass and from fist hand I can ensure you that it is worth every single penny ;)

You have to download and install the Resynthesizer Plugin.

The problem I have that I dont have heal selection in my Gimp (My Gimp version is 2.10.34)

1:10 my mind was mainly blown because the name of the file is "man-in-black-t-shirt-playing-violin-on-brown-field" yet the man is clearly holding a guitar. Great tutorial though. I'm trying to learn some basic skills with GIMP and will be watching your other videos.

Why is that when resizing, images on gimp, the image loose pixel quality unlike photoshop. How can this be achieved, without losing image quality ?

Using gimp right

When I hit the enter key instead of the dotted line moving my selection just goes away. Why is this?

If you're on a MAC and not using the most up-to-date version, this is a bug in older versions. The selection is still there, it just doesn't display.

i tried heal synth but the output is terrible

When I use the free select tool and when I close the selection and press enter it cancels instead of a selection plz help

You might have the tool set to the wrong “Mode” at the top of the Tool Options. Set it to either “Add to the current selection” or “Replace the current selection.”

heal selection is not showing from Mac.....

Hi, I hope you can please help me. At the age of 65 I want to try a new skill ( not too skilled though lolol ) I want to know how I can take a picture of my Grandchildren and cut them out of one photograph and then put their image on different backgrounds, so it looks as though i.e. my Granddaughter is standing with a Unicorn or my Grandson is feeding a Dinosaur. I am sorry if I am not explaining myself properly but I don't know all the technical terminology. Some one suggested I get Photoshop but on my pension I cant afford to do that. I hope I am not taking up too much of your time asking for help.Thank you, stay safe and well.

Just 4 days ago I posted a message under the YT-video (How to Install the GIMP Resynthesizer Plugin (Windows)). I posted this: "Virustotal(dot)com gives a trojan warning on the file and there are 37 community votes for being a harmfull file. Don't know if it is a false positive our not, maybe Githup has information in the treath". I`m not been able to find a anwer that convince me that the file is safe to use. Someone here maybe who has that information because it seems to be a usefull and timesaving tool

I just ran all three individual links (the Linux download, Windows download, and the main Plugin page on the GitHub repository) and did not get any errors/warnings. I also ran the GitHub page itself that contains all the links and files and did not get any warnings.

@@DaviesMediaDesign thanks for your response. Did run the zip (windows version) myself also again through the online antivirus (virustotal(dot)com). One out of 65 virusscanners gives a trojan warning and there are 37 community votes that it is harmfull software (maybe adobe?). I decided to take the riks and use the software :)

not working

So fking annoying-- GIMP settings to remove foregroud photos..... default settings, find the toggle... hot mess. GIMP needs a fkn QA review.

Kinda gloss over what else needs to be con - 'Press Control here then I can just paint over the stuff I want to remove'. Not really very helpful
