1975, skipping class, smokin' in my buddy's car with this tune blasting! We NEVER thought "oh, a chick band". They were a hard rockin' band with a female singer and guitar player. Great memories.

Stacy, I would love for you to react to Arthur Lee and Love, live at Glastonbury or on Jools Holland. Thank you for wanting my opinion. I am a 74 year old musician and I have seen many of the great bands. Another group that hasn't been reacted to is The Band, anything from their first two albums. Many consider them the best American band ever. I would also like to see you react to Aja, by Steely Dan, an album that changed music forever. Thanks!

Ann Wilson is an incredibly gifted vocalist. The control whether she's screaming, up high, singing softly or in her lower register is impeccable. Their stuff is amazing. Also, Nancy Wilson is criminally underappreciated as a great guitarist.

Nancy is highly overrated by people who obviously have very little knowledge about guitar playing and guitarists. She is a good guitar player but not great. What she is playing is very repetitive and certainly not anything any other good guitarist could easily play.

@@BobSoltis1 Wings of Pegasus (British guitarist) and Doug Helvering (classical composer), on their KZread channels, disagree with you on Nancy's guitar playing. It is not just the playing, it is the writing. Nancy writes very musical, engaging pieces, especially considering that they are often acoustic, yet still rock. Many can and have played "Stairway to Heaven"; only one guitarist actually composed the music to that song - and he liked Nancy's cover in 2012.

  • @BobSoltis1

@@DanielByers-qf9qi I've listened to each of those people and like all KZread "reactors" they are always playing to the crowd. They react positively to everything they hear and heap lavish praise because people want others to enjoy the music that they like and agree that their favorites are the best thing since sliced bread. That is human nature and they play to it. The fact that Nancy was/is gorgeous and for a long time was pretty unique in the rock and roll genre is also something that plays into peoples opinions. Writing and composing is a very different thing than playing chops - which is what we are discussing here. Nancy has composed some very good and compelling bits. However, for the record - Nancy has either outright lied or implied that she was part of the creation of many guitar pieces in the "classic" lineup of Heart when she wasn't. The great guitar work and original riffs and melodies of the vast majority of their songs were created by Roger Fisher - not Nancy. Howard Leese contributed a lot as well. The usually laid back and mellow Roger Fisher was even taken aback and publicly commented about Nancy's lie that the riff and guitar progressions he created for "Barracuda" was a joint effort between them and was stolen from another band. By industry standards Nancy is a good guitarist - not great. I could name a dozen session musicians and performers that I know personally that are far more talented guitarists than Nancy. As far as Jimmy page liking Nancy's guitar work in the Led Zep tribute - I'm wondering why he would make such a comment. Nancy played a very basic acoustic rhythm guitar bit. The backing band guitarists were certainly great and Shane Fontayne's solo work was superb. Nancy's guitar was purely background and truly not needed at all.

"It looks like '70s Heart." Indeed...peak Heart. All the original members. Their songwriting/performing zenith. No interference from MTV-addled record executives trying to turn them into pop divas. This is the real thing. Nancy in full flight, the coolest movements on stage of any guitarist ever, maybe even over peak Jimmy Page. Damn, did she move well, never mind how great of a guitarist/singer/musician she is and has always been. Roger Fisher and Howard Leese on guitars and keyboards; Steve Fossen on bass; Michael Derosier on drums...and rock's greatest singer at her gorgeous best, Ann Wilson. People always say rock's greatest singer is either Robert Plant, Freddie Mercury, or Ronnie James Dio, and solid arguments can be made for all three, but I have zero problem placing Ann right there among them, and perhaps above all of them. The fact that she's been able to maintain most of that iconic voice well into her seventies is almost unique among rock singers who had anywhere near her vocal range and power. She is a force of nature, a freak of nature, and it isn't only about her crazy belt and banshee wail. Her note choices, her runs, her dynamics, her smoky low timbre, her timing, her clarity, her emotive passion, her incredible soulfulness...she is simply masterful. Heart is easily one of the most underrated bands in rock history. No, they aren't quite on Zeppelin's level, and they'd be the first to admit that, but they aren't far off, either. Then again, no one has ever been on Zeppelin's level, not even the Beatles, not when you weigh the total package of songwriting, versatility, musicianship, stage performance, and overall influence. The Beatles are in the conversation, certainly, as are the Stones, the Eagles, and maybe Pink Floyd. Heart is a step or two below that level, but they don't take a back seat to anyone else. They're right there on the Van Halen/Aerosmith/Skynyrd tier, or damn near so, yet somehow they never receive their proper due.

Excellent summation. Yes, this was "peak Heart": all contributed enormously to the overall creativity and musicality. I picked Ann Wilson as the greatest female rock vocalist from the first time I heard Heart ("Crazy on You") on a car radio (early 1976, as I recall); I still consider her as good or better than anyone, including Robert Plant, et al. An associate of mine with a degree in classical music (emphasis on vocal/choral performance) considers her the best rock vocalist ever - male or female: power, control, diction, dynamic range, pitch range, phrasing, fluidity, interpretation, presence, et cetera, et cetera.

You can see her grab a pick off her mike stand right before she goes into her crouch and kick to start the song. We have bronze statues of various people who had an impact on culture or sports around Seattle. Since Heart is from the Seattle area someone once suggested erecting a statue of Ann and Nancy based on this outdoor concert, with their hair blowing in the wind and Nancy in her trademark kick. Magic Man is what really opened their careers. So heartfelt and was a voice for young women explaining their youthful love-struck behaviour to their mothers, as if their mothers don’t know. I had older (and later -younger) sisters that used to sneak out their windows in the night to see their boyfriends, and learned later I could expect the same willingness from my girlfriends. When we’re kids and our hormones are in charge, we attribute Magic to the objects of our affection. When Anne plaintively wails that’s “he’s a Magic man” she’s describing the hearts of all young women who against all good advice insist on being with the baddest of boys.

An interesting note about Nancy living in Ann's shadow is that while it's true that Ann was the star of the show, and her voice is what most people immediately think of when they think of Heart, the irony is that younger sister Nancy was the stronger personality who generally served the role of caretaker for her very fragile older sister. Nancy is the rock that Ann has always leaned on, and she's needed it quite a bit over the years. So many health issues, weight issues, self-image issues, music industry issues, relationship issues, and always the supposedly quiet wallflower sister, the cute blonde one, was the driving force, the steadying hand, the captain of the ship. Nancy is not to be trifled with, that's for sure.

Anything from the Alive In Seattle show from 2002 (its all on YT) would be much appreciated and it'll blow your mind. Highlights for me are Barracuda, Magic Man, Straight On, Crazy On You, Alone, These Dreams, Mistral Wind, Battle Of Evermore, Wild Child, Dog & Butterfly, and Heaven. Any of those will give you the chills. Hopefully you give them.a try from this time period!

STACEY, YOU FEEL THE SAME WAY ABOUT THE WILSON SISTERS & HEART, THAT I FEEL ABOUT… FREDDIE MERCURY & QUEEN (I truly HOPE you might “get around to” reacting to them sometime - preferably LIVE performances, because Queen is actually the only band who are renowned for being BETTER live than in-studio… There’s NOTHING better than Freddie’s live vocals, energy and audience interactions.)💕 🙏👑🥰 SUGGESTIONS: (These songs are all from Milton Keynes Bowl in 1982) Concert opener - “The Hero”/“We Will Rock You” Fast Version “Somebody To Love” “Fat Bottomed Girls” “Play The Game” “Staying Power” “Action This Day” “Save Me”

Ann is 4 years older than Nancy, so maybe that has something to with Ann being the Lead. Nancy could have been the Lead Singer in any other band except Heart because Ann is just about perfect. Their Album Dreamboat Annie, to me, encompasses Heart at the height of their power. They had some battles with the recording industry. Ann and Nancy said there major influence was of course Led Zeppelin. They gave a tribute to led zeppelin when they was honored as the masters. Even president Obama and his wife was there. And Ann did a amazing job to the point that robert plant teared up. Also Jason Bonham the late drummer john bonhams son played the drums as a tribute to them and his dad a very beautiful emotional performance by all. But next by heart probably one of there biggest hits " Magic Man " dont know if you noticed that alot of hearts song has sexual overtones like zeppelin. Go carzy on you was very sexual. I had a lot of fun to that song.. and AC/DCs "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap" Thanks Sylvia for the education😊❤😂

NUMERO UNO IS "Cook with Fire" (it ain't about cooking)😅The original recording sounds live, but it isn't and it sounds really good. Great reaction. Nancey is a trajectly underated guitarist that writes, performs and sings as well as anyone in the industry. Ann is a freak of nature in the best way and is at the top of top of the best rock voices. Unfortunantly the industry really didn't give them much and they had to do it all by themselves and with the bands they tour with. They were objectified by the preditors of the recording word (hence Barracuda) and they stood tall and were true to themselves (clasic finger up to the scum of record industry) They are true Pioneers to female rock.

Your comments on all you need is their talent hits the 1960s and 70s on the head. There was no glitz or glamor and early on no light shows. It was always about the music, nothin' else really mattered. When this song hit the air waves the earth damn near stop rotating. The entire rock n roll world about went off the tracks. You have no idea how good they were in concert. They absolutely blew the roof off of every place they played. They slow it down and will blow you away with Dreamboat Anne. On stage, Nancy put on her own show with her riffs and dancing around with her blond hair killin' every guy in the crowd.

Always good to see you again, Miss Stacey! Another great choice. In the Misspent Days of My Youth, the idea of Ann and/or Nancy Wilson going ‘Crazy On Me’ was one of my favorite fan-I mean……thought experiments. The studio version of this song is tighter and more driving. It’s worth listening to off-line. But keep in the back of your mind, as great as Heart was at rocking out, they also had a very tender side as well. Something to keep in mind, in the 70’s and 80’s, it was expected that as a musical performer, you could not only sing well, but also could play your own instrument, and write your own songs. It was an incredible time to be a concert-goer. SO MUCH TALENT, on every radio station. Performers like Heart and Pink Floyd are from a different era than today’s auto-tuned “superstars”. May I suggest “Black On Black” as your next Heart reaction? Pulse-pounding rocker. Please stop referring to yourself in negative terms. And give Two Steps From Hell a listen one of these days. Continuing to look forward to enjoying your musical journey. Stay safe.
